god i love haymitch abernathy
being both a hunger games and a taylor swift fan is truly a unique experience bc wdym âloafing him was breadâ?
hearing the hunger games on stage cast being asked if theyâre âteam peeta or team galeâ (and answering team gale) really makes me long for a book accurate tv show where all involved thoroughly understand the characters and the underlying themes of the books
ALSO the actress for katniss saying katnissâ greatest strength is fearlessness.

seeing sotr filming updates is so sad like, oh we got Sid and ma? âMa and Sid clinging to each other for eternityâ. bloodbath scene rehearsal? Wyatt dies protecting Lou Lou. Burdock and Asterid? âi resort to throwing rocks hard at themâ
I love Cinna but I feel like we donât hold him accountable enough. Cinna in Catching Fire says, âDonât worry. I always channel my emotions into my work. That way I donât hurt anyone but myself.â But his works CAN hurt other people; for example, Katniss.
Katniss was put into the position of being the mockingjay because of the dress that he designed. Not only did he put himself at risk of danger, he put Katniss as well. That was another reason as to why Katniss was targeted.
Of course, Katniss doesnât really hold Cinna accountable for it much because he was someone she confided in and trusted heavily.
yes because ultimately cinna was apart of the rebel plan that actively exploited katniss for propaganda. thatâs the tragedy of katnissâs story. she was just a child who wanted to save her sister. she never wanted to be apart of any of it.
i wish we talked more about greasy sae and not in the context that she could be lucy gray. greasy sae represents the community of district 12, the idea that neighbors look out for each other in times of suffering. i imagine greasy sae suffered so much loss herself, but still committed to looking out for katniss when nobody else would. district 12 may have burned but community lives on through war and loss.
happy đ birthday đ haymitch đ abernathy đ
this july 4th feels more like reaping day than ever before!! i hate it here:)
Just finished reading the Hunger games trilogy.
I wanted to capture the book versions, but the film adaptations still have an iron grip on me, so you might see some similarities
i have a lot to say ab this
In my opinion, even though Gale never really knew that the bomb would kill Prim he's still a bad person as he let himself get obsessed with revenge and destroying the capitol.
but the thing is, i donât think this makes him a bad person at all. i think this makes him a victim of violent oppression. a teenager who is angry. a young man who grew up watching innocent children die and his neighbors die. a person who watched the person he loved suffer, and watch his home burn to the ground. do i agree with many of his actions? no. do i think heâs rational? no. but to say that people are bad for having a very human reaction to the torture theyâve been put through doesnât make much sense to me.
why do we never talk about this
To me there's something almost... upsetting about it? Like I know this is a beloved tradition in many cultures and nowadays it is more symbolic and doesn't always hold the same overtly patriarchal thinking as it did in the past, but still, the idea of a father being able to "give away" his daughter so that she can be possessed by another man negates her autonomy. It reduces her to an object. And so in this case, where Katniss (and Peeta too) are being forced into marriage by Snow, it comes off as almost sinister. Especially since it is Effie, Katniss' Capitol minder from day one, who suggests that Haymitch, the person the Capitol put in charge of her life in the arena, be the one to do it. It becomes yet another example of how the adults around Katniss (even the ones who are supposedly on "her side") control every aspect of her life. No wonder Haymitch plays it off as a joke. He sees how twisted it is, too.
YES. not just âgiving her awayâ but giving her away to snow. and thing is, i believe snow would relish in that patriarchy and make him do it. it would be his way of saying to haymitch: âeveryone you love will always belong to me, and thereâs nothing you can do about it.â
why do we never talk about this
The only thing Peeta Mellark ever convinced Katniss of was that the world was safe and inherently good enough to bring children into.
i'm so sick of people going "you hate gale because he is a radicalized, emotionally manipulated teenager who faced great trauma" like no, i hate gale because he's annoying, bro. don't do me like that.
ok iâve hc that toast babies are named willow and rye for over a decade but i really want to hear some new ideas bc they donât stick out to me anymore and ik yâall are creative. what do you think they named those lil babies???
letâs talk about gale hawthorne. and not in the context of his romantic feelings towards katniss. letâs talk about the fact that heâs characterized as evil more than coin or snow by thg fans and everything we forget about him.
gale grew up in a district where everyone had to constantly avoid starving to death. he was forced to watch children being murdered on television every year, and was exposed to absolutely nothing about the outside world besides captiol propaganda. he did not get a proper education, and was prepared for his whole childhood to follow in his fatherâs footsteps and work for life in the terrifying, dangerous mines.
then at 14, his father is killed in those neglected, disposable mines. he is automatically put into a parental role to take care of his mother, his little brothers, and his unborn baby sister. he is forced to turn to the woods and the tessera and risk his and his familyâs lives to survive. he knows he has a greater chance of going in the hunger games, but he did what he had to do.
he looses his childhood, and has to be the provider for the next several years. but at least he had katniss, who is going through the same thing. at least he can be himself around her. he can express his anger, how much he hates the capitol. he can say things that would get him killed in 12. whoâs ever going to hear him?
then, just as he made it through his last reaping, prim is reaped and katniss volunteers. he has to watch his best friend be paraded around the capitol and then thrown into an arena to die. he watches her at the brink of death, and at her lowest points. when she returns, sheâs traumatized.
but life goes on for gale, and as an adult, he has the responsibility to work in the same mines that killed his father. instead of feeling free in the woods, he is suffocated deep underground, wrapped around snowâs finger. but thereâs talk of rebellion, finally a chance that he can fight back. but his life is in danger. his district is locked down, and any talk of rebellion is controlled.
he then has to watch his best friend go back into the arena, the place that broke her. he has to watch her be tortured yet again by the capitol. he knows in his heart that this time he will never see her again.
and what happens after all of that? his district is bombed. he risks his own life to save as many people as he could. he saves hundreds, but had to watch thousands of his neighbors burn with his own eyes. the guilt he holds that he couldnât save them all overwhelms him.
we forget all of this when we talk about gale. we forget that he was an angry teenager, who was traumatized and a victim of the capitolâs cruelty. he had a hard time emotionally connecting to anything that is outside his personal family and circle. because he was so inexperienced, uneducated, and filled with rage, he kind of had the attitude that you do what you have to do to fight back. he didnât understand the price of war. it took someone he loved and cared about to be killed for him to realize the price. we donât see much of gale after primâs death. i can only imagine the guilt and trauma that haunts him for life. heâll see her face in his dreams every night.
the evil ones were the adults (coin) who understood war. the oneâs who planned this out their entire lives, the oneâs who used this traumatized teenagerâs rage to THEIR advantage. they had the absolute power to not utilize his ideas, and to not use them against innocent people for their own power. ultimately THEY were the one to give the okay on those attacks. do i think he should have been more empathetic and cautious of life? 100%. in fact, i think gale is reckless. but i donât see the teenager who was a traumatized victim of the capitolâs cruelty as evil for having a questionable moral compass.
we are missing the plot here yâall.
tw:
now iâm even more mad bc i just saw someone try and defend their stance on gale killing prim by comparing him to h*tler not being the one to physically commit crimesđđđ we are so doomed
