Right. I have seen too many dickheads demean byler fans in their upset, claiming it "wasn't real queerbaiting" for various reasons, claiming that johnlock/destiel/klance/whatever is the REAL queerbait.

If this is you, kindly shut the fuck up and listen to someone who was fucking present for all three of those queerbaits and more, and never believed byler stood a chance.

Byler is abso-fucking-lutely queerbait on those levels, and fans of byler - many of whom are new to fandom and have never been queerbaited before - have a right to be fucking upset. Just like you had a right to be upset however many times you fell for Lucy and the football.

Now you may have watched stranger things and not seen any byler evidence or shipped byler, but may I remind my fellow tjlcers that manynpeople called us delusional for tjlc and didn't see what we saw. What you WILL see if you look for it is YEARS of the writers, directors, cast, crew, and social media pages hinting at and teasing byler as a possibility, right up until the last episode came out.

A lot of you are saying that it cant be queerbait since one of the characters is queer, but may I kindly shove your fucking face at destiel, and Cas being explicitly queer and in love with Dean. That doesnt make destiel ANY LESS QUEERBAIT in the same way it doesnt make byler any less queerbait.

The long and the short of it is they teased the queer fans of the show with the potential for a main storyline queer romance, through subtle shit in the show, and through EXPLICIT FUCKING MARKETING. It has left fans - again, YOUNG fans - feeling hurt and used. It has reminded people that to most of the world they dont fucking matter, and hammered in the idea that queer characters and love stories are not viewed in even the vaguest sort of equal ground. JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU.

NONE of the great queerbaits ever had a fucking snowballs chance. It's easy to mock people who aren't jaded by this shit already, but maybe instead you can pull from your own hurt when youve been queerbaited and show some fucking empathy.
