“So how many fell madly in love with you and wanted to take you away from all this?”
“Just the one. I think I’m slipping.”
aerynxsun:
she’d encountered her share of detectives, and they ran the gamut of expected stereotypes. from the grizzled and cynical, to the green, to the corrupt, to the starry-eyed and naive. she had yet to decide where this particular officer fell, but she knew better than to judge too quickly. the woman before her was young, attractive, and she had an innocent face. but to make further assumptions would be a game far more dangerous than she was willing to pay.
aeryn doubted this detective would characterize her work any differently than the others before her had. they didn’t understand the brand of morality that she adhered to in every choice she made. and she had long-since learned to accept that. had she killed? certainly. was the world better for it? yes. her conscience was as clear now as it had been before she’d entered this business.
“ and what precisely is it that i do, detective? ” she challenged, meeting the other woman’s gaze unperturbed. “ i’d hate to think i’ve caused you distress… ”
There was a condescension in the woman’s tone that Chloe found difficult to shake off. She’d dealt with ARROGANCE before--she still did on a near daily basis. But usually when encountered in the wild, it was unfounded. The assassin was unsettling because of her complete confidence: where most would wither after a few minutes under interrogation, she sat utterly unfazed.
“Society’s built on TRUST,” Chloe answered, her voice quiet. “Trust in the authority of the law, trust that we’ll all comply with said law. Someone like you? Someone who lives outside of all that, who plays God? There’s no room for you. The minute people take it upon themselves to decide who should live and who should die is the beginning of anarchy. It’s people like you who tear down everything I work for.”
She flipped open the file and slid a photo across the table. “See this? The man I know you killed had a daughter in college. Whatever justification you’ve worked up in your head, there’s nothing that’s going to give her back her FATHER.”
“So how many fell madly in love with you and wanted to take you away from all this?”

// So my Inara blog is almost set up, it just needs pages--but anyway go check it out I’m really proud of the header

‘ trust me, if i wanted you dead, you wouldn’t be here to talk me out of it. ‘ sharon stepped out of the shadows, well aware that her presence may have been detected, but she casually waved the black ops guys off — they had been staking this park out, this stage in particular, but if the target was going to show, he’d be spooked by now.
it was a failed mission, but she wasn’t worried about it, they could regroup and try again. maybe paranoia would work to her advantage in the end. in combat black, her hair loose around her face, sharon carter looked more like the agent. mercenary she was — but nothing declared her affiliation, that was too risky.
adjusting the rifle over her chest, one gloved hand switching it to safe mode, letting the woman on stage see her. no need to scare a civilian.
‘ what are you doing out here? ‘ her radio on her shoulder crackled, sharon reached up to turn it down.
The sudden shift from midnight walk to tactical operation was disorienting. One moment she was basking in the peace of the evening, the next, a stranger was stepping out of the shadows toting a large RIFLE and combat gear. She wasn’t intimidated so much as confused. Someone this put-together had to be part of a government job. Which meant--
Naturally, she’d gone and stepped right in the middle of it.
“I’m taking a WALK.” She shifted from one foot to the other, searching the darkness for others in similar gear. It was uncomfortable being on the clumsy side of things--usually it was other people screwing up her job. “What the hell’s going on here?”
A brief thought flashed in her mind--if only she had her GUN. She felt naked plunged into the middle of a dangerous situation without it.
celestealis:
“MATTER OF FACT, I DO.”
he had a great habit of coming around at the right moment; luck was on his side. celestials knew just how to ride fortune’s wheel, for randomness and chance to be not so random at all. where now? spin the wheel. stop. he sat himself and waited. patiently. silent, meditative.
and humbly, he liked to see himself as damage control. for all his brother had wrought over the centuries. and for the mere fact that if lucifer wasn’t doing what he was supposed to on his unholy throne, it was the rest of heaven who would have to pick up the pieces, to rule in his stead.
and he did not want that.
abdiel observed her calmly through keen blue eyes. few could place the devil at first glance; and so few could place a seraph. few would cast him a second glance, head bent and eyes fluttered shut.
“most importantly, though, i believe also we can all CHOOSE to do what we believe is RIGHT.” once upon a time, for one choice, he had decked the devil right in the head. one impetuous choice no one else bemoaned, either; otherwise, he was the hothead.
“you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
She ruminated on that advice for a long moment. Usually she had faith in her own moral compass; she followed her HEART, did what she believed was right, and usually she didn’t lose any sleep over it. But this was far beyond anything experience could teach her.
Her best friend was the devil. Where was the right and wrong in that?
“Not a ghost.” She wondered if he would think she was crazy, but she really didn’t care. It was easier making confessions to a stranger than to try and work this out in her own head.
“I saw the face of the DEVIL on a man that I... I thought I knew. A good friend of mine. He’s saved my life more times than I can count.” She took a deep, steadying breath, trying not to remind herself of Lucifer’s plethora of character flaws. He was selfish, narcissistic, reckless, destructive--and her heart told her that in spite of everything, he was a good man. But she couldn’t forget that smile wreathed in burnt flesh. Somehow she knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, exactly what she’d seen. And now she couldn’t escape it.
“I’ve got more faith in him than I’ve ever had in...” leaving the sentence to hang, she nodded in the direction of the altar. “Do you think that makes me a SINNER?”
“ It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Planet I’m from, couldn’t see a one of ‘em, pollution’s so thick. Sometimes I think I entered flight school just to see what the hell everyone was talking about. ” // ind. & prv. hoban ‘wash’ washburne from “firefly” // est. 2013 // written by skye

Though nights in Los Angeles had thickened her skin, there was something about nights in Gotham that felt almost SUPERNATURAL. She hadn’t yet crossed paths with the Rogues, a fact for which she was grateful--yet in the back of her mind lingered a seed of dread. As the newest homicide detective in town, she felt more like a walking slice of fresh meat than a seasoned professional.
At least it was Nygma. She’d heard they were more elaborate eccentric than homicidal butcher. Hopefully that reputation held a grain of TRUTH.
She had her gun in her hand as she entered the building. Lowered--non-threatening--but ready to fire. “Edward Nygma? This is Detective Chloe Decker with the GCPD. Your name came up in an investigation and I’d like to ask you a few questions.”
musesofthecosmos:
❝ EXCUSE ME, DETECTIVE. MY NAME IS AGENT STILES. ❞ flashing the updated FBI badge Sam had given him just before this hunt, Castiel sidestepped around one of the crime scene folks in order to reach who, as he had been told, was the detective in charge.
the angel had arrived just as they were FINISHING UP, it would seem, but luckily, the body was still there. hopefully, he would be able to get close enough to determine if what they were dealing with was the same thing he was after. if not, he would have to see if he could get close enough to the INVESTIGATION itself.
❝ i was told you were the one in charge here, and, i was wondering if i could ask you a few questions? ❞

Over-worked, over-stressed, over-caffeinated. She could feel a tension headache creeping up the back of her skull and throbbing behind her eyes, threatening her ability to concentrate. She almost didn’t NOTICE the stranger in the trench coat until he was next to her--and once he spoke, she had to stifle a groan.
“FBI?” Her gaze dropped briefly to the badge. “Nobody told me you were coming. What interest could you guys possibly have in a job like this?” It reeked of someone KNOWING something she didn’t, which--unfortunately for the agent--was a peeve of hers.
“Go ahead, ask away. But if you try to take over my crime scene, I’m gonna have to call in your badge number with my lieutenant and get confirmation. We do things by the BOOK around here.”
ghcstdoctor:
he chuckles. okay, maybe she has a point. “ well, look on the bright side – you’re just weeding out the weakest of the pack, ” he teases, smile growing wider. “ give it some time – somebody will come along who’s not too squeamish. ” because for all that she might be a single parent who spends her days around dead people, at least those dead don’t talk back. “ and, if not, at least you’ll get some good stories out of it, ” he adds dryly.
She grins, canting her head to the side. “I spend my days running around the city with a guy who’s convinced he’s the DEVIL INCARNATE. My mom’s the queen of 80′s science fiction, and if you really go digging, I’m sure my head’s an attic full of daddy issues. I’ve got no shortage of good stories. What I could really use is an extra pair of hands.” She folds her arms, putting on a good show of considering. “Y’know, maybe I could hire a boyfriend. Put out an ad for someone who likes to cook and clean and occasionally cuddle, see what comes out of the woodwork.”
samaelnomcre:
“ You don’t need a dating website, Detective— ” Lucifer could feel his throat closing; lump forming. His hands were beginning to get clammy and butterflies grew within the pit of his stomach. He was scared, but what for? — He should really tell her; tell her just what she REALLY meant to him, that it was someone who cared about her as much as he did that deserved her. “ You deserve someone worthy of that grace. Someone who knows that every crime scene breaks your heart, even though you’d never admit it. Someone who actually appreciates your impossibly boring middle name, “Jane”. And more importantly, Detective you deserve someone as good as you. The likelihood of that happening via a dating website, well… that’s very slim. ”
It plucks at her heart strings to hear him sing her PRAISES--strikes every raw nerve she ever knew she had. They’ve been through circles over and over with this. Just when she thinks they’ve got a shot, something happens, he pulls away--and suddenly they’re back at square one. She almost doesn’t dare hope.
“I’m open to alternatives, if you’ve got any SUGGESTIONS.” She looks at him and the door is wide open--the question is whether he’ll walk through it.
ghcstdoctor:
“ i’d say i really hope people still like that song… ” he glances up at her, flashing a slight teasing smile. but after a beat, he shakes his head. “ i never really got online dating. i’ve been told that just makes me old but, y’know what? i’ll take it. ” he shoots her a pointed look. “ but theoretically speaking, i guess the long walks on the beach thing sounds good. something tells me you’re not going to have much trouble, though. hypothetically. ”
“I still like that song, but I’ve heard my taste is outdated, so--take that with a grain of salt.” In spite of herself she breathes a laugh. “I don’t know. I think the curb appeal’s still there, but apparently most people consider dating a homicide detective about as cheerful as dating a CORPSE. Add to that the long hours and a seven-year-old, I might as well apply for spinsterhood now.”
samaelnomcre:
“ Detective? — You’re not seriously considering joining one of those Dad-founded things now are you? You are worth far more than the people who use such things to find love. ”
“Easy for you to say when you own a nightclub brimming with hot young singles. I work about sixty hours a week--the odds of me meeting someone offline is next to ZILCH. Anyway, that’s not an answer.”
“Theoretically speaking, if you were to create a dating profile for yourself... what would you say? Long walks on the beach? Or maybe you’re more piña coladas and getting caught in the rain?”
gavrele:
BROWS JUMPING TO HIS HAIRLINE, GABRIEL BLINKED IN SURPRISE. Lucifer, what did you do? he wasn’t entirely sure what his brother’s relationship was with this woman, but whatever it was, it was clearly on the fence.
he would’ve shown how AMUSING he found how screwed Lucifer was if he wasn’t just a little bit worried about bringing about her ire upon himself should she take it the wrong way.
❝ … ex-wife? ❞ there was a story behind that, an interesting one, he was sure. but Gabriel figured that the smartest move would be to let that drop. ❝ uh, if i DO see him, i’ll be sure to tell him to pray for his ass. though, that’s kind of the problem. ❞ for someone who’d flaunted his presence before, the radio silence was a bit annoying.
“Oh, you mean he’s in trouble with someone else, too? Figures.” She let out a heavy sigh, and with it, let go of some of the TENSION she was holding in her muscles. She was being irrationally irritable with Gabriel--taking out her frustration on someone she’d just met. Yes, he was Lucifer’s brother, but that didn’t mean he was an asshole just by association.
( ---It could also mean exactly that, but it was her job not to jump to conclusions.)
“Alright, look--I’ve got a few minutes. You want to grab some coffee and catch me up? Maybe if I have a better idea of what’s going on I can help narrow down where he might BE.”
