working on replies while i’m at work today. i’m still here i swear, started a new job and trying to get the feel for things
hi guys
dante wanted to yank the papers kit was touching out of his reach, light them on fire over the stove, so anything so that the worst parts of him wouldn't be seen by anyone. kit had already seen them, over and over and over, but it didn't make it any less embarrassing. trying to take them away only would have drawn more attention to the drug fueled ramblings of a man who only grew more desperate for anything real each day that passed. his eyes dropped to the pill bottle come out of kit's pocket and he doesn't say anything even though a bitter taste fills his mouth. hypocrite.
but kit ignored enough of what dante did that he could accept that this was how they loved each other most days. they noticed everything and pretended they hadn't. leaving the worst parts alone because neither of them had hands clean enough to start digging through someone else's mess. fair was fair. his eyes lingered on the bottle for half a second too long anyway.
dante reached for the cigarette, mouth already twisting in annoyance. "i can afford cigarettes. i just don't know where my box went." it was probably empty and crushed beneath his coffee table somewhere. he patted his pockets for a lighter, holding the cigarette between his teeth to light it once he found one stuffed in the pocket of his jeans. "second, money is fake." he took a drag, letting the smoke sit in his lungs a little too long before exhaling toward the ceiling and shrugged his shoulders. "dunno, you tell me. do you?" he was ready to lie and had been for years, waiting for the day that kit got himself into trouble.
he could tell his messing with the papers had dante on edge but that didn't hurry him along as he stared down at them, instead allowing his eyes to linger despite the fact that they'd gone blurry and stopped reading anything long before that moment. he wanted to know what was written about as much as dante wanted him to know, some things were better left unknown. as long as dante was mostly okay he wouldn't do much more than a quick glance over them, reading into things is where the trouble began, the last thing their lives needed was more trouble. he also noticed the reaction, or lack there of, to his pills, something that he was grateful for because punching his brother wasn't something he wanted to do right now, he would if needed, but thankfully dante kept his mouth shut. his eyes closed as he continued to lean back into the cabinet, waiting for the ache to leave. it wasn't going away anytime soon but a man could hope. as long as the hope had nothing to do with anything serious that was, kit wasn't stupid enough to allow hope to seep in to anything real, that would only cause more pain later on, he wanted to be numb. numb was the best way to be, people tried to say that was wrong, that you were supposed to feel things, but kit knew the truth, numb was the way to go. the word box reminded him of the food he'd been eating, causing his eyes to open again as he picked up the takeout container and returned to poking at it. it tasted like nothing but everything did, he wasn't smelling for taste and flavor, he smelled the containers when he was picking something to make sure it wasn't rotten, most days his own concern was whether or not it was still good to eat. it wasn't as if he was tasting it anyways. "money isn't fake." he would never understand why or how dante had that mentality, not after everything they'd already been through because they didn't have money, not after everything they'd done to get some. "dunno yet. guess we'll both find out if someone comes knocking."
I DID SOMETHING
fuck yeah knew i wasn't lying

Her expression scrunched in distaste; she should’ve seen that one coming. Reid had a brand and a routine that he followed to a T. “Yeah, you can keep that to yourself,” the blonde advised, placing her palm in front of her as if to keep the conversation from going deeper. The last thing she wanted to hear about was his sex life, though Lotte had a front row seat, or well, bottom in relation to where her apartment sat. They never seemed to be quiet.
At least he’d left her with Max. The blonde ran a hand along the good boy’s head while they waited for Reid’s backward Irish Goodbye. Poor girls never stood a chance. She’d never actually seen any of them leave the next morning; she wondered if anyone ever had. The door swung back open to reveal the flavor of the day, and Lotte gave a nod of acknowledgment while they crossed paths. “Jessica,” the words followed the motion before Reid tugged his neighbor inside. Only then was she able to fully process his lack of clothing; he was truly predictable. “Oh, you know, just stopping by for a cup of sugar.” A fake smile, paired with her sarcasm, dropped with the last word. “Why do you think? I’m trying to enjoy my night, and all I can hear is your noisy ass.”
he choked back a laugh as she also called the girl jessica, more than happy to slam the door on her screeching after them. she'd leave in a minute... that or he'd call security. there was a reason he lived in the building he did and having someone to remove unwanted guests was a huge part of his reason. he also liked the balcony. he crossed the room, tossing open the sliding glass door and lighting a cigarette while standing mostly inside, keeping only the hand holding it out the door. "i don't have sugar, i think i might have honey though." he knew she wasn't actually looking for anything, maybe some peace and quiet, but it wasn't his fault the walls were thin. every place had it's downfall and the good outweighed the bad here, also he'd been sick of looking.
"you know sugar's like, really bad for you right?" he brought the cigarette to his lips, taking a lot drag and not bothering to step farther outside than to turn his head slightly when he exhaled. he paid an ungodly amount of money on a maid service to keep the smell out, they should be grateful he made their jobs easier by opening the door at all. after the last time he hadn't he'd quickly learned his lesson after the ozone generated had been brought in. now even in the deepest of his depression he crawled to the balcony before smoking. he ignored her comments about noise, eyes slowly scanning her face, "bonds to proteins that destroy collagen and the elastic bits in your skin, causes premature aging and also acne." the cigarette was back between his lips, dangling from them as he pulled out his phone and started scrolling through it.

closed starter for @touchtankx !
he's been coming to these woods long enough to know that the birds are friendly. the type of birds who see people often, who are so regularly spoiled by bird feeders and houses and delightful little trinkets that they never had in utah. he's never had so much opportunity to be out, without fear of repercussion. he's lucky to be here now. he notices the way the crows leave shiny little things in a spot near the knot in a tree. treasures for a companion, no doubt. but he hasn't seen whoever has been lucky enough to end up with such brilliant friends as the corvids. maybe with enough time, john will be able to make a friend like that, although he's never been great at socializing. isolation will do that to a person, he supposed. he hears the crunching of a branch behind him, but makes no move to get up, instead still seated on the ground, with a blanket under him, watching the leaves and the clouds roll by. footsteps get closer, but john expects no interaction. not really. not until he notices them stopping over by the treasure trove. "crows really like you, huh?" he doesn't get up, doesn't look over, just says it with the light lilt of someone who understands the joy in befriending a bird or two.
if living alone in the woods taught you one thing it was how to be aware of your surroundings. in an effort to stay far away from people peyton had moved into the small cottage tucked into the woods, the path to town only visible to those who knew it was there. she supposed someone could go looking for it, though at least from her observation, that rarely happened. most days it was her in and the birds, a few other creatures popped by her area but for the most part they kept to themselves. the way peyton saw it it was their home first, who was she to keep them away? they'd had a few minor disagreements over eating her plants, but over time those issues had mostly resolved themselves. she'd though the soft whistling of her wind chimes would have the creatures keeping their distance, but instead it seemed to draw them in, while she knew feeding the wildlife wasn't good for them, a fall feeding station allowed them to have a snack without ruining everything she was growing, it felt balanced enough to her. she noted the man before she got too close, deciding that while all men were threats, he was not the biggest she'd encountered. he appeared to have no weapons and to her knowledge, wasn't disrupting any of the natural ongoings. still she approached the knotted tree somewhat cautiously, keeping as much space between them as possible. she wasn't going to disrespect her friends by ignoring their gifts just because someone was intruding, no matter how peaceful the intrusion was. her fingers had barely brushed over the strange looking coin when the man spoke to her. slowly she turned her head, hand overing over her gifts as she watched him. "we're friends." she said simply, still frozen in her spot. it had been at least a week since she'd spoken to another human, birds and other animals were much better at conversation in her experience. slowly she pocketed the small coin, rock, and other tiny treasures she'd look at more closely at home, then began to replace them with chestnuts she'd shelled before walking this way. "have you met them?"
"kit..." she sighed, crossing her arms. "it's fine if you took it, but can you give it back? if you need something, you can just ask, dude, you don't gotta take my things."
🕯️attn: @touchtankx.
kit stared at his little sister with a bored expression before raising an eyebrow as she crossed her arms, "you better make real sure you're correct about something before you start accusing me." his tone was bored, matching the expression his face had settled into. whatever it was she was asking about had in fact been taken by him, he could almost promise that without even knowing what she was talking about. that didn't give her the right to go around accusing him of things. "what are you even looking for?"
i have five threads left to do, but you, yes you whoever is reading this right now, could make me a random starter and increase that number
just something to think about. food for thought if you will
the question pulls a smirk straight across alex’s face. “third,” they grin, eyes flashing with mischief. “but i can usually count on a home run.”
"third? i'm pretty partial to third myself. second is good though, first is fun sometimes. i'm just a big fan of bases i guess." she blinked innocently, tucking the stray pink strands behind her ear before looking up, "only usually? what's the precentage on that?"
"sure." teddy shrugs, watching the way that kit combs through the crowd. teddy isn't unfamiliar with the plight of being broke and wanting to get shit faced about it. and he's also not really offering any advice. he's just making fucking conversation so he stops thinking about whether or not he paid his gas bill this morning. pointing out that he noticed it. he follows head tilting as the other man looks across the bar. interesting.
kit was aware that he was being followed but he wasn't bothered by it, many things got on his nerves, but most of them took a while to do so. he knew he wasn't the best conversationalist, nor did he try to be, but if the man wanted to follow him he could. as long as he didn't get in the way, kit didn't care. "what do you want?" he turned his head, body still open to the room as he looked solely at teddy, "quickly."
beckett watched her the whole time she moved around the space with his eyebrows climbing higher as she dug through her bag. "incredible." he didn't interrupt. he wanted to see how far it went. when she stopped herself mid sentence and looked down at the phone already in her hand, beckett's grin spread slow and merciless. "lenny." a beat. "i was this close to feeling bad for you." he pushed himself off the couch with a heavy sigh, dragging his feet towards the door. "and no, i don't think you're an escort." he caught her eye out of the corner of her's, smile crooked. "i think you're way too mean to maintain a customer base." he caught the door before she could, holding it open with a dramatic bow that undermined any sincerity the gesture might have had. "after you."
she made a face at him as he said he almost felt bad for her, she didn't need that or anything else from him. having him around was just... fun. a break from the normal hustle and bustle of life, a change of pace and scenery. he also wasn't bad to look at it. there was no downside currently, maybe that would change if one of them got too attached or started talking about feelings in a non-joking way, for now everything was good. "baby people love mean. i wouldn't be short on customers. they'd be breaking the bank and trying to take out loans to spend one more day with me, yourself included." she reached back into her purse, digging around way too much for the scarcity of items inside, "how do you feel about the bus?" she walked though the door, giving a small nod in thanks as she pressed her vape to her lips to fight off the smirk. "not too good for it, right?"
