House Near the BeachTwo weeks ago I moved into this squat/okupa in Barcelona. I only stayed a short while as it was near to eviction. This toilet was our glamorous on suit.
This week my friend and I occupied a new flat we have both water electricity and furniture already. will post some pictures asap for all to see.
Morgan Tuesdays!
Hey guys thinking of you have a nice MT tomorrow. xx
A video filmed at the magical okupa/Squat conejera. This occupation has been open for nearly two years. A wide variety of artistic practices flood this house, from music and painting to circus and dance. Some footage of Mabel and Urdu training acro-yoga.
I made a video. Cesar is a talented dancer and circus artist living in Barcelona, he was a wonder to film.
Merci to Kognitif for the cool track

Today I digress someone special sent me these words;
The Ice Man's mule is parked Outside the bar Where a man with missing fingers Plays a strange guitar And the German dwarf Dances with the butcher's son And tonight a little rain never hurt no one
From Tom Waits and I had to to share this with the world.
Very poignant, ruminations of parents, who lost their daughter. The sentiment of a young girl alone. The inspiration to face your fears and persist though life to risk what really matters to you it is quite provocative and relevant. "If it's worth the going, it's worth the ride" -endure the hardest blows that life throws at you - the hardship of losing something special amounts to strengthening and developing you as a person. Fight or flight … Yes!
I'm Still staying with friends at Aurea Social next door to sagrada familia its pretty special. This evening I'm going to visit a new squat I'll update you tomorrow.
The spaces at Can Kalzada
Kan Kalzada; Passing through
These are some of the people we spent time with at KanKalzada. They were an eclectic group all with outstanding personalities, welcoming us in such a way that we were instantly made to feel at home. I spent time cooking, cleaning, wandering the fields and exploring the grounds.
Another KanKalzda installment to come.
News, A brief catch up on the present:
Over the past few days there has been an escalation of Hack Lab v Calafou tension, which has resulted in the Hack Lab & friends Leaving Calafou. We are currently staying with friends from Aureas Social its pretty nice we in central Barcelona. later in the week we should be heading a few stops north to a squat called casa de la muntanya. I shall update you on this exciting adventure later in the week.

Premia De Mar
CIC AssemblyMy first day experiencing the CIC I went to Premia De Mar for a general assembly; Catalan Integral Cooperative is organized through fortnightly open assemblies. Here is where decisions about its functioning are taken. In these assemblies which are called ‘permanent assemblies’
Here I met many wonderful engaged groups and individuals, all with a strong vision of social change and its importance. The building shown is a squatted building used as a social center. the building is open to and used by both the local and wider community. It seemed that squatting in Catalan reaches a wider variety of people as it is very much ingrained into the culture.
For more images work still to be done on the building and some nice beach sunsets check out Flickr
Aurea Social 20-02-14
The night of the eviction I stayed in a social center called Aurea Social. This was my first introduction to the CIC (Cooperativa Integral Catalana). This Social center acts as a base for the CIC supporting many communities.
The CIC interested me because it works for grassroots communities as a collective network to support self management. I promotes much diversity and explores many new technologies.
After hearing all this I had to know more from this I spent a week on the road visiting a handful of the communities within the Cooperative... Coming soon posts from the road trip!
The eviction of La Carbonería 19-02-14
This is what happens when you evict a squat in Barcelona.
It was an emotional event. The building, owned by barclays bank, had been live for many years with a wonderful food kitchen, free shop, also holding many open social events. That evening there were thousands of activists commanding the streets. A great example of commendatory. I can see why George Orwell held Catalonia in such high regard. I had been there for only a few days, but was instantly swept away by the strength of the people.
