SKEGNESS TO THE ATLANTIC
'The artist Tracey Moberly will be travelling with Drummond. In addition to undertaking her own work, she will be operating as the projectionist, acting as the usherette and selling ice cream during the interval at all screenings'.
Bill Drummond is an artist. Since walking out of Liverpool School of Art in 1973, Drummond has used words, music and paint to do what he does. The17 is a choir. Between 2003 and 2013 Bill Drummond led several hundred performances by The17. These performances were scattered across the globe, from Brazil to China via Jerusalem and Beirut. Some performance have involved thousands of participants others just two strangers in a field. Bill Drummond always planned to sever his direct involvement with The17 on turning 60. Bill Drummond turned 60 on the 29th of April 2013. Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow And All Music Has Disappeared is a film. The film is by the Swiss director Stefan Schwietert. The film is a feature length documentary about The17. The film follows Drummond on his last major performance with The17 over the weeks leading up to his 60th birthday. This resulted in a performance of Score 318: CONSIDER. The performance of this score took place in numerous locations along a line drawn between the beach of Skegness on the East Coast of England, and the cliffs on the island of Inishmore off the West Coast of Ireland. Over the past twelve months Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow And All Music Has Disappeared has been screened at film festivals around the world. It has won various awards on the way. As yet Drummond has chosen not to have the film screened in England, Wales or Ireland. Between the 4th and 10th of July Drummond will be driving from Skegness to Inishmore in his white Ford Transit van. In the back of the van he will have a projector, a screen and a freezer containing ice cream. On the journey he will be stopping off and screening Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow And All Music Has Disappeared, at various locations. These locations have been selected to allow former participants of The17 to view the film. Passers by and the curious will not be turned away. The artist Tracey Moberly will be travelling with Drummond. In addition to undertaking her own work, she will be operating as the projectionist, acting as the usherette and selling ice cream during the interval at all screenings. What follows is a variety of artwork & documentation within the planned itinerary.
