we're so back baby! Nominations are open!

Now some ground rules for the competition itself and nominations:

Only Fictional Characters Allowed!

Only submit a character set once! Please no cheating, We will do our best to include as many as I can

That being said we're still going to limit it to 2-3 sets from one source

As well as the finalists and semi-finalists cannot compete again, so sorry to ed, al, shadow, maria, jason todd, dick grayson, chara, asriel, and the ro'meave brothers, but they can't get in this year

Tragic Siblings are pretty self explanatory but its any tragic, estranged, or the like siblings!

HARD RULE ONE: no harrassment, being vitrilolic, so hateful or anything of the like or you will be blocked. We had a situation last year with a certain fandom and we DO NOT want any repeats of it. It genuinely killed both of our interests in the source and we aren't letting that situation happen again

HARD RULE TWO: Shipping any of the siblings involved in this is an instant block as well, this applies all around the board for all kinds of siblings!

We're rebranding! We are now the Single Child Tournament!

We have decided to do so because siblings are objectively stupid and dumb and annoying and boring like who needs them anyways. Only children are objectively cooler, hence the rebrand. But we need your help with nominations!

reminder that shadow and maria were both children when maria was murdered in front of shadow trying to protect him. sonic x puts her as 12 (not canon) but the oldest she couldve been would be around 16. shadow saw his first friend, the sweet girl who loved him as a brother, the sick girl that he had been created as a cure for, the one he made a deep promise to, the one who told him that he was born to make people happy, get gunned down. its something that deeply traumatizes him and then her memory is tampered with by someone who was supposed to care for him to and he thinks maria wants him to kill everyone on the planet EVEN HIMSELF because its what he had promised her, something that went against everything she wouldve actually wanted.

i dont know about the minecraft characters but at least ed and al got their happy ending, something maria and shadow won't get

Shadow was created to help find a cure to a mortal illness, a tool, and as an attempt to create the ultimate lifeform. That was all he was known for when he got to earth. But to Maria and the doctor he was family, he was a kid that was just learning about the world and people.

Maria had a terminal illness and to protect her, her grandfather isolated her from the world inside the space station. The only other kid around she could play with was Shadow, and she took on a big sister role for him.

For the most part they only had each other, with the lingering fear that one day Maria's body might succumb. Yet they were happy, as they learned from each other and did the most they could with what they have. They kept making promises of what they would do once they were able to go back to earth, dreaming about the future.

When G. U. N invades the space station, their home, Shadow and Maria are forced to run away. Only Shadow makes it out. Maria, still a child herself, sacrifices her life to help her little brother escape. Her life is violently taken away because of this.

Shadow escapes and becomes bitter with grief, yeah, he becomes an edgelord, true, but he also carries great kindness with him because his big sister's wish for him was to protect other people just as he would do for her. Maria sacrificed all chances of having a future, even after fighting for so long to just live, because she wanted Shadow to have his freedom, so he could still have a chance to make the dreams they had true, so G.U.N wouldn't use him as a weapon.

And it was Maria's kindness towards humanity, even while dying by its hands, that later on helped Shadow get out of the wrong road when driven by grief.

#anyone who reads this Im speaking directly to u pls help that ARK sibs sweep #the elric Brothers had tragedy strike but they overcame everything together #idk anything about the mcd siblings 👍 #but Maria is DEAD. 6FT UNDER BY SACRIFICING HER OWN LIFE FOR THE ONE WHO WAS MADE TO SAVE HER. #like the elric bros had tragedy strike but the ark sibs ARE tragic #even since day 1 they've been tragic because Shad was made to cure her illness and nothing more #yet they bonded and became family. maria had only 1 other friend besides her literal family and that exact same friend tried killing Shadow #decades later and blaming Shadow for it. EVEN THO IT WAS THE GOVERNMENT HE WORKS FOR THAT DID IT. #all while Shadow was trying to recover his memory and who he is. like. fuck. #the elric bros had an era of peace and futures to look forward to. the ark sibs had neither because Shadow was being tested on #and Maria had to be bedridden a lot due to her illness. all while Gerald was trying to keep it lowkey from the government #and Shadow's last memories before being brainwashed was Maria sending him to earth alone begging for him to fulfill her wish. #And in some iterations of it she was shot as she sent him off. #like this is all pure tragedy. even Gerald is tragic. Hailed as a revolutionary man of science for good who loved his family more than #anything. Yet turned mad due to the government craving control and killing when they realized they didn't have control. #fucking god man. I was even gonna say at first at least Eggsy and Metal turned out not so tragic. then I remembered. Frontiers. #its the entire Robotnik family. but Shadow and Maria always had each other. now Shadow only has memories. not even a memorial. #and even then. its memories that he can't be for sure are real or altered. he can't and I mean literally CANT be sure due to Gerald. #and the time Shadow literally died. He used his last words to talk to Maria to say he fulfilled her last wish. god man I feel the tears #okay I ranted on a bit too long but pls ARK sibs sweep ✌️😔
