I think the way people approach bigotry a lot of the time bothers me because it treats bigotry as like a bunch of different things that can be neatly categorized. Bigotry is this big amorphous thing that can squeeze itself into nooks and crannies whenever able. Nobody’s ever just one specific type of bigot. The presence of bigotry informs your entire worldview to some degree. it’s why it’s so hard to unlearn. If there’s room in your mind for any type of “lesser person” or “acceptable target” it’s going to leech its way into any place it can.
The way you feel about black people feeds into the way you feel about women feeds into the way you feel about gay people feeds into the way you feel about trans people feeds into the way you feel about disabled people and so on and so on. You can connect the dots any way you like because bigotry is adaptable. It doesn’t matter who’s on bottom as long as the bigot stays on top.
