I'm pretty new to the tlk fandom, I started watching it with my dad a few months ago.

This is a sideblog for me so if you get likes/replies from @boy-cow, hi!! That's me!!

Currently liveblogging my rewatch at a grueling pace of about half an episode a night. Join me if u want, we can hang out :)

Trying to work out a good tagging system atm, right now my main tags are:

#liveblogging tag - everything I post while liveblogging

#Tlk meme - i try to tag things with this when I make a silly post (so u can go through them and have a little haha)

I always tag each character with their name (so I can look in #finan for just Finan posts)

I also always tag the episode number (eg - #Tlk s3e3)

#fintred #fintric #osfin #ostric #uhtric <- these i pretty much name up as I go but I like to use these for anything with 2 characters so it'll be a mix of ship and platonic in there

And other ships I will try and tag with (character who appeared first) x (other character) eg - Uhtred x skade

Please Keep the TLK Fandom Alive!

You guys, I hear people complaining all the time about the fandom dying. And it is the same people who are complaining about the fandom dying who stop writing or put their blogs on hiatus (or delete them), which is contributing to the fandom actually dying!

The TLK fandom has always been a small fandom, and that is one thing about it that is charming and wonderful! The stuff that the TLK fans post never gets a lot of reblogs or comments but that is pretty normal. I see new people popping up all the time in the tags and I know that there are people still invested in this series.

Rather than complain about the fandom dying and leave, please consider reblogging and commenting on the posts you do see in the tags, community, and source blog. Read fanfic and leave comments for the fic writers both here on Tumblr and on AO3. Learn how to make gifs if you have the time and energy, but even if you don't it is really wonderful if you can reblog the ones that are being made. There is still a strong group of giffers who are still actively making gifs and edits for TLK and posting regularly. Sharing their creations ensures many more people will see them; if no one reblogs, no one will see them!

Interacting with the people making content and making your own content is the only way to actually keep the fandom active. Just because this show has been over for a few years does not mean it has to end.

I know that I took a four year hiatus, sort of. I was here and keeping up, just not on my tumblr a lot. I had a lot going on in life and was in a weird place.

However, I will say that I am happy to be back and I noticed that there are new faces and old. I love it. I love being able to prattle on and gush about TLK, because it really has brought a lot of joy to my life and a lot of excellent people.

I don't want to see that disappear 🫥

This is a recreation of The Meeting on the Turret Stairs (1864) by Frederic William Burton. Credit to the wonderful @soulhollow for giving me the brilliant idea and commissioning this 💚

The costume design for Alfred

They said they wanted to see Alfred in purple/gold tones, so I self-indulgently designed a costume for Alfred (though again not necessarily trying to be historical accurate)

Details for archaeology nerds (So it happens again I guess)

1. The tablet-woven bend

Design is loosely taken from an actual archaeological find from the Taplow Barrow in Buckinghamsire, dating to the early 7th century. The original piece really had the gold threads on it by the way. You can see the modern reconstruction here.

2. Pattern on the tunic

Taken from a part of an arcade illustration in the Royal Bible (Royal 1. E. vi, 4r.) c. 1000-1025 in British Library, London. Added some vine patterns that are quite common to see in insular art for reasons.

3. Pattern on the shawl

Taken from a part of the stole and the maniple in St. Cuthbert’s coffin, dated to early 10th century, now in Durham Cathedral Museum.

4. Embroidery on Alfred’s sleeves

The pattern is from an illustration in the manuscript of Bede’s Life of St Cuthbert (MS 183, f. 1v) c. 937 in Parker Library, Cambridge, which depicts King Æthelstan showing the book to St Cuthbert himself.
