Autistic coded characters (or even characters just widely headcanoned as autistic) being popular is so weird sometimes because I will have been made fun of my whole life for being awkward or 'robotic' or taking things too literally or whatever else but then when this character acts the same way, it's endearing, and me continuing to exhibit traits and behaviours I *always* have is suddenly me just trying to be like that character. Maybe it's that I saw you liking those traits in the character so I got the silly idea that it was okay for me to hide them less around you.

No, you don't understand. The more ungrateful, the more difficult, the more unmanageable a kid is in any caretaker story, the more I will adore it. It's about being loved not because you're obedient or mature or understanding or digestible, but for you. The work that goes into taking care of you is utterly irrelevant. It's about telling you to stop whining but never revealing I gave you the food off my plate so you won't go hungry, the clothes off my back so you won't go cold, because my love is not dependent on you making yourself convenient. It just is. You cannot be a burden. I would never put you down anyway.

I don't even care. I love Gabe. He's one of my favourites and he has been since season 3 came out. I love teenage characters that act like teenagers. I like that he's impulsive and emotional and that in his efforts to try to maintain/build his own sense of right and wrong within this new world, he messes some shit up because of course he would. He's only 14, he misses his dad, he just lost his sister, his uncle killed a man in front of him for the first time, and everything is fucked. He wants to become someone who can handle this environment and do what's right but there's no sense of stability for him to lean on as he does this. (This is true for other child characters but I especially like how it was done with Gabe.) I am 100% willing to cut him a break.
