👀 I would LOVE to hear more in the way of trans girl Keith headcanons and how it plays into your characterization. I've been really big on agender Keith for a while, but lately I've also toyed with there being a streak of biker girl in there too, or K lowkey counting Joan Jett as a style inspiration for gender reasons. We all bring something a little different to the characters, and Keith gender stuff is just. Good.

aw thank you for asking! my big old masterpost about it is here, but that’s a bit more like a fic than general headcanons. i cant quite explain why ive always hced her this way, but it is pretty key to my overall interpretation; i think a good amount of it is just projecting my own trans feelings. namely in the sense that, yeah, biker girl/joan jett is absolutely the type of vibe that’s always been on my mind for her, like a ‘girl keith’ would really not look hardly different from canon... but that’s a sort of complex thing when youre trans, right? the pressure on us to play by the rules of gender to prove we ‘really are’ or can ever start to be recognized the way we want. being an effeminate trans guy (as i am) or tomboy trans girl (like keith) is really, really difficult. 

and i think that the sort of core questions of keith’s character, “who am i really,” “is it safe to get close to others,” “can anyone understand what i am,” “how can i prove myself,” are like... very trans questions! i wouldn’t say that keith is trans-coded or canonically legible as having a trans narrative, the way i would for pidge, but the sort of... general emotional state? is very much present, for a certain closeted/pre-transition stage especially. trying to reconcile a lot of different ideas and wants within yourself; a certain sort of erratic approach to social relationships (heavily relying on known Safe Persons, anxious avoidance of others); a kind of emotional hyperawareness somehow coexisting with heavy detachment, and the self-flagellation that comes with that state (seen mostly in keith’s vlog, and like, it feels silly to put that much weight on a small additional-content thing, but! it wouldnt have been written like that if it wasnt what we were supposed to be reading into canon!). 

i suppose it’s not necessarily a very happy reading of canon, but, keith did go through a whole lot and... not really get any particular resolution. there wasnt really an endpoint to her apparent ‘forging connections with others’ arc besides, like, ‘still a good team with the other paladins! which was established a long time ago! and the bom keith arc, which shouldve been a point of conflict and development, just kinda ended instead of actually resolving!’ yknow. so hey, not my fault. and i do just generally like the notion of keith getting to happily be someone’s girlfriend, and have girl friends. i think that a lot of things about keith are particularly satisfying to have in a female character-- incredible piloting skill, adhd traits, determination, a certain sort of social awkwardness, a repressed emotionality that isnt the “callous” or “doormat” types, a heroic sense of obligation that’s also clearly self-destructive, a cool jacket, a cool knife... not that it’s a substitute for canon female characters with those qualities, we need them plainly visible, but yknow. it’s neat to think about! all the heavy stuff aside, i just Like keith as a girl, and i wish different-gender trans hcs were more common.

changed back to this blog’s original url so i could use thearkoftaujeer on main and put my posts on here in context. even though i was a coward and used he/him in a lot of my posts on here so theyd get traction with other kallura fans, ive headcanoned keith as a trans woman since season 1 and it’s always been key in how i characterized her. if youve got a problem with it, fuck you! if you’re a terf/transphobe like i’ve just found @cutiekunoichi is, and you followed me here, fuck you in particular! don’t follow trans people for their art, writing, and ideas when you hate who they are. don’t hate trans people in the first place, lol, because there is literally no reason to. bye!

one day when im finally done being depressed about vld im gonna go through months of the kallura tag and fall in love all over again and finish the dozen edit ideas in my drafts. i promise. i miss them. never over it

Do you think legendary defender is the end of kallura. Allurance is super hated. The bigest contraversy is the only black allura is the only one to die and not get a romance with keith. The series crashed and burned when kallura was abonded. I mean the most logical thing to do in the next version is to keep allura dark skinned give her a romance with keith and let her live and get a happy ending.

unfortunately i think pretty much only kalluras actually care about this stuff lol, most of the massive fanbase growth for vld was based on people who wanted klance so if theyve already dropped kallura once and dont want to do allurance again then theyll either have no romance or go for klance to win woke points. abandoning kallura really is the root of the show falling apart but most people view shiro and lance's arcs as the more important problem. i dont know for certain how much the ip holders care about the current fanbase's wants, and we can't predict what the next studio/showrunners will want, so there is hope... but i still feel crushed by vld's ending and hope hurts and i really think people are madder about klance than allura. fixing k/a IS the most logical thing but it wouldn't be the most profitable.

Throughout the entirety of season 8 Keith is the only person who calls Allura Princess despite the loss of her crown and that just goes to show he’s the only one who never tried to diminish her in any way and continued to view her for who she really was even when she couldn’t - Princess Allura of Altea and heir to Alfor’s throne.
