fuckin gets you with my morse beam. if you want me to delete something of yours, just let me know! (all hand typed, no translators here except my own brain yeehaw) (it/they/whatever)
hello, .... . .-.. .-.. ---, and welcome to the morse corner! the morsener if you will
so, morse code! you may ask, why make an entire sideblog dedicated to translating posts into it, especially since morse is relatively direct in comparison to other translation gimmicks? why on earth is this something someone would choose to spend their free time on?
great question :] short answer is i'm autistic and think morse is fun. long answer is that i've been interested in ham radio for years, and have decided that morse/cw is a way cooler option to me than talking aloud on air. so, this is good practice for translating with both speed and accuracy!
if you'd like to learn morse for yourself, i highly suggest the morse mania app or videos on youtube -- being able to hear the rhythm is more important than you might think! and if you'd like to practice, that could be as simple as tapping out messages on a table or as complex as getting a practice oscillator and a paddle/key. (what you should use is entirely up to your preference -- i'm fond of straight keys and sideswipers, because directional dits and dahs are weirdly hard for me to make sense of, but i have a tiny little paddle from n6ara to stim with anyways in my edc.)
some of my favorite tags and testimonials below bc they always make me laugh
and more silly stuff below the cut!
fun words:
sometimes ... --- -- . - .. -- . ... (i like that all the letters are so distinct sounding!)
april .- .--. .-. .. .-.. (the lilt of so many letters starting with dit-dah is so nice)
flying ..-. .-.. -.-- .. -. --. (they're all playing off each other! f and l are mirrored, l and y reverse the tone lengths, and g just adds an extra dah to the rhythm of n! underrated.)
words that suck:
these - .... . ... . (too many dits in a row my wrist is gonna explode)
actually, any word that starts with t has the potential to suck, because if it starts the post then tumblr decides i'm trying to make a bullet list no matter how many times i try to find a workaround.
trivia!
"raphaelesque" (adj., done in or resembling the style of the painter raphael) .-. .- .--. .... .- . .-.. . ... --.- ..- . is, as far as i'm aware, the longest morse code palindrome.
meanwhile, the longest word in the english language, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, would be .--. -. . ..- -- --- -. --- ..- .-.. - .-. .- -- .. -.-. .-. --- ... -.-. --- .--. .. -.-. ... .. .-.. .. -.-. --- ...- --- .-.. -.-. .- -. --- -.-. --- -. .. --- ... .. ... ! which, weirdly enough, feels shorter to type when it's in morse, even though it really isn't.
a lot of classic emoticons translate! ---... -.--.- is :), ---... -.--. is :(, ---... ...-- is :3, and so on! you can also --- .-- --- (owo) and ..- .-- ..- (uwu) and no one can stop you.
the at symbol (@, .--.-.) was added to international morse code in 2004, and is the latest official addition. it is also nearly twice as long as simply tapping out the word at (.- -) lmao.
they need to come up with more words like necrosis and miasma and mausoleum and cadaver and morose and decrepit and stuff like that just so metal bands can expand their vocabulary
often you will see things online where you just have to be like "what a strange thing to say" or "i don't think that's true :)" to yourself and try to move on or you will lose your mind
i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
