i don't like to yuck people's yum but i have to say that my least favorite thing to come from the current state of Artists on the Internet is the idea of a sketchbook as something nice and pretty and shareable. like i love me a notebook full of gorgeous art don't get me wrong but that is NOT what a sketchbook is. a sketchbook is my friend who i carry around everywhere like a purse chihuahua. it is the physical manifestation of my notes app. it is the container into which i wring my brain out. it is my therapist. and most of all it is filled with absolutely terrible sketches that should never see the light of day.

this post is making the rounds again and the amount of people saying that the pretty sketchbooks phenomenon ruined sketchbooks for them is HEARTBREAKING and i stand by my opinion that sketchbooks should be like a jar you put your OCs in. and then you shake them around in there. that's what they're for

He has antlers normally (in the way all specghouls do) but they're shed for the winter in this illustration leaving him with just the bony base and pedicle.

🌑°• IMPORTANT - Patreon Structure Change

All changes listed here will take effect August 1st and will be in place for the foreseeable future

First of all, thank each and every one of you for your support! It means the world to me that you've all chosen to be patreon members for the short while I've had it up!

Second of all, as I will be going back to uni classes for the next several months and as I have a full time job now, I cannot feseably complete patreon rewards at the pace that I had been previously! As such, I will be enacting the following changes starting August 1st, 2026.

All rewards for July will still be posted as promised. This post is being made so that anyone who would like to cancel their patreon memberships in light of the changes is able to prior to being charged for august.

Change 1 - I will no longer be offering my $5 and $10 tiers as I cannot keep up with those rewards at a reasonable pace anymore! The only tier remaining will be my $3.50 tier where I will continue to upload doodles and sketchbook scans monthly.

Change 2 - All extant adult art for the $5/$10 tiers will be put up for sale as a one time purchase through patreon's shop feature! This art will remain up indefinitely as a purchaseable item.

IF YOU ARE NOT A PATRON - You will be able to purchase this art at the set price in the shop.

IF YOU ARE A PATRON FOR MY $5 AND $10 TIERS - You will be given a discount code and be able to get these items for 100% free in the shop. They will not suddenly become unavailable to you. If you are having trouble accessing items you are welcome to dm me either on tumblr (@translunaryanimus) or discord (@translunary_animus) and I will send you files with proof of membership (a screenshot and/or your name on patreon)

Change 3 - I will open up a commission form with a limited number of slots that I'll post when I think I can take commissions. Currently the plan is to reopen them Mid-August, but this may change with my workload. Commissions and Patreon Update: My commissions are currently CLOSED till August! I've just started a new job, I'm moving apartments soon, and i'm working on finishing my current commissions + monthly patreon art before I open them back up. This is temporary so I don't load too much work onto my shoulders at once.

Additionally! I will have a very heavy workload starting in late August due to university starting back up again and will be altering the way my patreon works so that I'm not delivering the patron rewards late. I'll let all of you know before that happens so that, if you are a member, you can decide whether or not you'd like to stick around or cancel your subscription before you're charged for the next month.

More updates to come soon while I puzzle out how I want this to work!

My Yucky Me. He wears clothes mostly I promise. Sphagnum is an intelligent man-faced beast known as a Merrow, characterized by a fishlike body with semi-mammalian presenting features and an enormous jaw. Despite historical worries about merrows and their flesh eating sea kin being unable to integrate into polite society, merrows nowadays are allowed to work most jobs that man-creatures (humans and trolls) are permitted to work. Sphagnum, like most merrows, sticks close to the water for his job of choice. He works as an aquatic horticulturist specializing in edible water plants and magical hydroponics, alloweing many land crops to be grown in shallow water. While Sphagnum's primary job is tending to the plants, he serves a secondary duty of warding off and eating any aquatic pests that may try and take a bite. He's been affectionately given the nickname 'moss' both because he's the color of it and because the actual moss he's named after can be a little confusing to pronounce first time.

He's a lot taller than you'd think at first glance!! Merrows average within the 2-2.5m range generally on their hind legs. Their necks tend to bend and stoop awkwardly when on their hind legs and on land due to the length of their skull. That jaw opens really far back!!

Fun fact I've actually had Sphagnum as an oc forEVERRRR. He used to look like this back in 2020. [6 years ago.. owie..] Those random green splotches on his neck and hands were supposed to look like patches of scales but they ended up looking a whole lot more like moss growing on him which is fitting considering the name. I wasn't directly referencing this old design with the new one but I found this guy in my ancient files and had a big "AHA" moment about Sphagnum being such a familiar name to me and used on fish ocs.

A better look at Revelry's head situation. Technically this entire upper body connected to the tongue is the real head of revelry. Nobody's quite sure why they ended up with an entire human torso as their human face, but it's there now!

They do not wear clothes. Much to the chagrin of several people around them.

Revelry. Despite being overtly draconic in appearance, they're still classified as a sphinx. A Sphinx in Skyfall is any quadrupedal beast with a human-ish face and a propensity for trickster behavior who's displayed deific powers.

Revelry themselves has taken up the station of a sort of religious figure due to being one of a hanful of sphinxes who have displayed the ability to place a soul back into a body (any body) after death and currently resides in a temple.
