Did you know that the Sharp Collared Furrow Bee (Lasioglossum malachurum) is a species of sweat bee found across Europe and northern Africa? This shows an ability to adapt to different environments, but the bees that live in one climate will act a little differently than a colony in a different area.

They tend to nest in burrows in hard soil, so the queens who dig out these spaces often have more worn mandibles than the rest of her brood. This energy cost often leaves the queens physically weaker and drained of energy, leading to relatively frequent usurption from others. All of the queens in an area will synchronously seal their nests when they have provisions for the first of the broods.
