maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.

you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.

a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.

every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.

the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.

some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.

you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

Why do I need to write two little stories of at least 100 characters (but no more than 350!) when I want to report someone calling another user a "typical savage muslim"? (or any other instance of hate speech)

What use does any of that serve except as a way to discourage people from reporting hate speech?

I was reminded of this post just now while reporting a message that was just the n-word, typing my 100 characters about what it is that I'm reporting, and my 100 characters explaining how sending slurs to people goes against tumblr's hate speech policy.

I'm sure this reporting system greatly helps streamline the process of dealing with the rampant racism and transphobia on this site.

another cool thing i noticed is that when you see a racist post, you have to click the meatball menu and then click "Report Post".

You then have to specify that you are reporting it for the reason of "Other" and then select "Hate Speech".

When you get to that point, somehow the system has FORGOTTEN what post you were reporting.

So you have to go back and click the menu again to click "Copy Link" to then paste it in the "what post are you reporting?" field.

Then you have to write your two 100 character stories to explain why someone calling Black people subhuman is against the rules.

This has to be a deliberate design choice, right? Noone could accidentally make a reporting system this bad.

While political agitation must at times be adapted for a public steeped in propagandized precognitions, I believe the common liberal's point that Harris would not have kidnapped Maduro and Flores shows the very shallow limitations of an understanding of imperialism that boils down to military, and to a limited extent economic, aggression. Speculating if Harris would have done x or y thing differently of the same is useless insofar as you're looking to uncover the mechanisms and conclusions of capitalism's imperialist stage. A Harris administration would have unequivocally pursued a continuation of US influence in Latin America, as every single US presidency has since Haiti's revolution. The question of the specific methods and forms are secondary to the exact same underlying motivations for the preservation of a global economic system that hinges on the unequal relations between capitalist states, as important as they are to pick apart within that framework. If you understand imperialism as being identified with military intervention, you'd believe imperialism is a policy like any other that disappears and reappears according to the whims of foreign policy makers. Imperialism is the very foundation the current capitalist world economy which will spend both blood and diplomatic goodwill in the pursuit of its self-preservation.
