One of the many ideas that died before it started; a 3D Platformer set in a mostly nonsensical world with an equally strange protagonist (A gloomy artist that’s half clown and half rubber hose toon that looks like a mime, and he’s followed around by the stereotypical, annoying fairy that’s actually a disembodied clown nose.) The combat was meant to be based around slapstick and cartoon physics. Particularly with him inflating his hands and arms to clobber enemies, a hand buzzer to add electricity to his attacks, and seltzer bottle rockets for a ranged attack.

The world itself is split into different areas based on some form of entertainment. A rural circus area all about comedy, a black and white avant-garde area all about art, an urban cityscape with arcades and casinos aplenty, etc. etc. All while the currency is prize tickets and tokens as their bills and change.

The twist villains are a pair of shapeshifting jesters that intentionally cause havoc and misunderstandings between the kingdoms, make them wage war against each other, and take bets on who will win. The enemies you would face are all inhabitants that have been mind controlled by sentient masquerade masks made by these jesters.

It would all start with the protagonist working in his art studio on a new painting, only for him to run out on a color he needed to finish it. As he heads outside you’re met with a fancy, all black and white city akin to Paris with citizens wearing clothing you would only see in those experimental fashion shows. Every single one of that the protagonist passes gives him a look of disgust or disdain as he walks by. A moment later he takes a turn into an alley with a dead end, but after moving a dumpster slightly he ends up revealing a tiny portal that leads him into the more brightly colored circus world. The only reason he can get into it is because of him being part clown, this being able to fit into tiny spaces á la that clown car gag. Although, he’s hardly treated any better here as the inhabitants give him fake smiles and uneasy hellos. It’s not until he gets to the first merchant of the game that he’s treated kindly, since this is where he normally buys his paints. The is out of the color he needs, he gives you your first mission, and everything goes downhill from there.

I ended up stopping because of procrastination and the usual feeling of “this is way past anything I could do”. Even though the whole point was to get me out of my comfort zone and develop new skills. So much for that.
