Certificate for the most Innovative NGO
Hello Everyone, We just received certificate from MESH for being the Most Innovative NGO. Thank you MESH for being the Most Supportive NGO and recognizing our temple flower recycling work and other programs with the disabled, especially the mentally challenged since 2004. This reminds me of a song by James Brown … “Whoa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now So good, so good, I got you . Whoa!”
Hello everyone. Society for Child Development recently received the National Health Award 2018 by Double Helical for our work in the Mental Health Sector. As you may know that we have been working with the mentally challenged for more than 25 years. Congratulations to our entire organization. 🤗
Congratulation team T2C! After many years of hard work our organization has been able to be successful in our employment program for the mentally and the physically challenged. Our continuous hard work will keep this initiative alive. Hooraaa!!!
Chief Minister of Uttarakhand takes credit for our work - Temple Flower Recycling Program India
Read this Hindustan Times news report below for the full story.

The article above paints the current conditions of the Indian political sphere. It is of no surprise that Chief Minister of Uttarakhand would go to low lengths for sake of publicity.
The pioneer of the flower recycling program in India is Dr. Madhumita Puri. Ma’am’s agenda has always centered around the education and employment of the mentally challenged and persons with other disabilities. Dr. Madhumita Puri (founder of Society for Child Development and Trash to Cash employment initiative) started this work in 1992. The flower recycling program, which is a hot topic now-a-days, was started in 2004 by Dr. Puri with the intention of cleaning the Yamuna river. Our flower recycling program for the benefit of people with disability has been conducted by us in many different cities across India. Dehradun being one such place.
Walmart made a video about our program when we were creating products made from waste flowers for them.
BBC knows about our work.

Not just that, The United Nations and the Nippon Foundation presented Dr. Madhumita Puri with ESCAP-Sasakawa Award for this pioneering work.

With the support and interest of Ministry of Women and Child Development, government of Uttarakhand, we did a Skill Development program with the tools of creative recycling for the residents of Rajkiya Nari Niketan in the year 2015. During the period of one and half year (Oct 2015 to Mar 2017) we worked with 100 Beneficiaries (60 - mentally ill, 25- Hearing impaired, 2- visually impaired and 13- multiple).
Most of the residents with mental illness were under heavy medication at the start of the program. As the training progressed the residents started to see the outcome of their work, their attendance started increasing day by day. With continuous work schedule of four hours, the caretaker informed that the dosages of medication and incidences of violent behavior have decreased. Along with skill development we also provided them with the opportunities to sell the products made by them in market and the products was appreciated. The amount collected from the sale were distributed amongst the residents.
An Impact Report was created at the end of the program in dehradun with all the appropriate data. Upon request the report can be shared.
Our intentions are not to belabor the fact that we (specifically Dr. Madhumita Puri) are the ones who are the reason behind the temple flower recycling program in India. Instead we encourage all to adopt this idea and start your own flower recycling program. Our intentions are not fame or glory, but to create a place of equal opportunities, especially for the mentally challenged.
“So keep on walking the country mile, change starts with mindset.”
