Hey! I just have a quick question: In the photo set of a model in green carrying a backpack that you recently reblogged, is there a name for the red strips of cloth that hold his sleeves back? Thanks! I love your blog so much!
Hi, glad you love my blog!
Those red strips of cloth that hold his sleeves back in this photoset are called Panbo/襻膊. As early as the Han dynasty, the Chinese used Panbo to tie their sleeves higher so that they could do things more conveniently. The most expensive Panbo was made of silver thread, and was used by top female cooks.
Below - a Panbo tutorial for Hanfu (Quju):
Hope this helps!

This is so funny my everything hurts from laughing so hard. Who is this man and where can I find more of his work?
John Sundquist. He is the OP too
I mmcrying my guts out
Just remember, these are elected officials and our tax dollars are being used for this.
This is what its like serving people. People want straight answers to questions they fundamentally don’t understand. They don’t even understand the language you use. There is a very definite answer to what ‘wifi’ is, but a lot of oldies have their own understanding which is seperate from fact, but they believe to be fact. So when you try to explain it to them it gets to a point where they not only don’t understand it, but they don’t want to understand it.
These people here, its not that they don’t understand the tech at hand. Its that they simply don’t want to. And so they never will.

Fun Vampire Fact; the reason that Vampires traditionally cannot see their reflections in a mirror is because mirrors used to be backed with a reflective layer of silver — which, as the metal of purity, would not ‘interact’ with Vampires, who are the Devil’s work.
However, modern mirrors have used aluminum as their reflective backing for many years now — and aluminum is not a ‘picky’ metal at all. So Vampires are able to see their reflections in modern mirrors.
All I can think about is a vampire used to not seeing their reflection in mirrors for centuries, and one day they are just walking along and unknowingly pass a mirror backed with aluminum and THEY NEARLY SHIT THEMSELVES.

an entomologist rates ant emojis
Beautiful big almond eye, realistic and full of expression as she gazes gently at you. Elbowed antennae and delicately segmented legs and body. Gorgeous pearlescent sheen like she is glowing. This ant moisturizes. This ant is round and huggable. This ant is a star. 11/10.
Beautifully detailed, lifelike pose but with an unexpected neck and odd antennae, perhaps scared straight. Her eyes suggest she has seen things. Her expression confirms she has seen too much. She is haunted and I want to know more. 7/10.
Floppy antenna, pointy muppet face, oddly posed legs. What is she? She has no waist. May be she is some kind of bee in disguise? I find her unsettling. 3/10.
This ant has an unexplained, double-jointed thorax, and no evidence of a waist. Her four-footed pose suggests that she a centaur rather than an ant. Centaur ants would be cool. I’m not sure what was intended here. 2/10.
Good first impression, kind of bland in the details. This ant has no particular waist to speak of, floppy rather than elbowed antennae, and an inexpressive face. Her color scheme is soft and hazy. I like the sharp angles of her stylishly sophisticated legs. This ant may not know quite were she is going, but she knows how she is getting there. 6/10.
Were you even trying. 0/10
Gasp! This ant is elegant. This ant has a beautiful tapered thorax, a segmented abdomen, alert, elbowed antennae, and a light-footed pose. This ant’s face suggests curiosity and a desire to explore the world. This ant inspires me. I want to be like her. 10/10
3-legged, waistless centaur-ant with strange, limp antennae and a beak. I don’t know what this is? It kind of reminds me of a Hork-Bajir. 1/10, not an ant.
This ant… makes me sad. All of her legs are broken. The MS Paint art style and gradient abuse convey distress. She has a duck beak. Despite this, her expression suggests perseverance and determined cheerfulness. I want this ant to have a better life. I am rooting for her. 3/10
This ant is a bold and challenging mixture of photorealism and caricature. She is broad and low-built and seems very sturdy. She looks like she would help you move. This ant is a dependable friend. 9/10
A picture of an ant from a children’s book. She is wearing little boots. This ant is wrong in every way, and yet I can’t stay mad at her. 7/10
An interesting, top-down view of an ant; her legs are positioned with slightly jarring symmetry. Nevertheless, her overall impression is that of a graceful, stylized design, like a pictograph. She is suitable for adorning fine garments and jewelry or perhaps gracing the walls of a tiny ant church. I like this minimalist ant. 8/10.
This is a termite. -10/10
why are these all marked as “she”? don’t female ants have wings??? why bother adding the pronoun???
Alates (male and female reproductives) have wings. The queens shed their wings after they mate. The males die. The daughter workers do not have wings. If you see an ant without wings, it’s a she.
And honestly—why bother panicking about things being called “she”? It’s not like I need a reason to gender a bug. I do it all the time. It’s fun. It’s humanizing. They don’t care.
I’m calling this spider she right now. 🕷️ her name is delanie. she’s a lesbian.
When someone with little to vague knowledge about bugs tries to fact check a person who JUST SAID they’re an entomologist. When will people learn?!
When you assume male is the default and using she is “adding the pronoun”…
this ad picture feels like it would be a good meme

The legendary Bai Yu. Not only is he handsome af, but he also has the all-around best personality like he is so hilarious and at the same time so sweet to his fans <333 I love how he had broken Zhu Yilong out of his shell and how Bai Yu takes care of the shy Zhu Yilong in interviews and entertainments shows and livestreams [sometimes I feel like Zhu Yilong’s not complete without Bai Yu lol like you can visibly see how much more comfortable he is when Bai Yu is there]. I love watching his livestreams too because he makes you feel like you’re close to him lolll and the most random things happen there [the freshest thing on my mind is LOOK THE SCREEN IS FULL OF LEG HAIR]. He spoils his fans with an attitude of “if it makes u guys happy I’ll go for it”, like for instance reading aloud parts of the novel, one of which was given to us at a time when we were all feeling down and upset about the plot. I love him because I know he genuinely cares for his fans and has us in his heart.
In terms of acting, @naanima ‘s post/reblog here addressed perfectly for me how PERFECT AND DEDICATED HE IS AS ZHAO YUNLAN. Like the screenwriters completely fcked ZYL up and nerfed him so hard that I’m sure if Bai Yu was not casted as him, he’d be flamed to death. And also all THOSE IMPROV SCENES [like some of the most iconic scenes– car scene, “Bye Black Cloaked Oppa~~~”, etc.– all improvised by him and caught on by Zhu Yilong (that trust between them is goals) and y’know what he said about them? That he improvised these scenes to tease Zhu Yilong like OMG CAN YOU STOP BEING SO CUTE AND SO BRILLIANT BAI YU cuz my heart can’t handle it]
However much of a mess Guardian was, I’m forever thankful that it gave us Bai Yu. I look forward to his upcoming roles for the future.
