Ever since she’d found out that she was pregnant, Rachel kept mostly to herself. No one else knew but Kurt, and she leaned on him during this time. Rachel knew everyone would find out eventually, but for now, she hadn’t started showing yet and she’d hide her baby bump as best as she could when the time came. Who knew? Maybe she’d be gone before then. She obviously couldn’t go on tour anymore this summer. It wouldn’t be good for the baby, but that didn’t mean she needed to stay. Her dads, she knew, would support her in going somewhere new for a fresh start with the baby after they’d gotten over the initial shock. Maybe they’d even come with her.
“You’re going to tell him, right?” Kurt asked her, interrupting her thoughts. She remained silent, her eyes avoiding his. “You have to tell him, Rachel,” he insisted, moving closer to her. “He deserves to know. Even if you two don’t get back together…” “Absolutely not,” she responded abruptly, interrupting Kurt this time. After Sam’s near-death experience, she’d been a mess, but since then, she’d had time to clear her head, and the truth was that Sam had really hurt her. He’d made her think that they still had a chance and then had presented her with divorce papers. Kurt took a breath, treading carefully. “Even if you don’t, you have to let him be there for the baby. You have to give him that choice,” he finished, taking her hand in his. “I know you’ll do the right thing. You always do.”
Rachel removed her hand from his, clearing her throat. “I should go,” she said, standing up from the bed. “Visiting hours are going to end soon.” She’d been procrastinating visiting Sam in rehab for over a week now, but she was forcing herself to go today. She’d made him a promise that she was going to be there for him throughout his treatment and she would be, but then after that, she’d be gone. Definitely figuratively. Literally? She wasn’t sure yet. With clear directions from the nurse, she found his room quickly. She knocked on the door, waiting for his permission before she opened the door and stepped inside.
He tried his best to keep his attitude positive, someone had mentioned that he would feel better if he thought positive thoughts but so far it wasn’t working. His life was turned upside down. Sam knew it was partly his own fault that he was in this situation, or maybe it was completely his fault, he blamed his father for pushing, and probably Rachel too, for leaving. No one really stayed for him, they just wanted one thing from him, and he was just the basketball star of Tree Hill, he knew it, everyone knew it, and now, now that was taken from him.
Who in their right mind would want someone that was caught doing drugs, more than once, and add to that his heart condition. His life was over, it was as simple as that. Sam let out a breath, as he pushed himself up sitting on the bed. The only visitors that had been here was his cousin, which was surprising, they had never gotten along but now apparently it was time for them to get to know each other, and to his surprise, Quinn had stopped by too. Sam knew that something was going on with Rachel, his ex, or something. He knew that he had given her divorce papers, even if he hadn’t been sure about it, his dad had given it to him, and then he had left them laying around, and yeah, Rachel left for that stupid tour with that stupid guy. And yeah, maybe Sam had sent them to Rachel but that didn’t mean that he wanted her to actually sign them.
He heard a knock on the door, “come in,” he said, most people just walked in, the only ones that knocked was the nurses and the doctors, both Quinn and Kurt had just walked in. He looked to see who it was, and to his surprise it was Rachel, he hadn’t seen her since the hospital, when she had told him that she would be there for him, but she hadn’t been here during the week he had been staying at the center. “You didn’t have to come, I won’t hold you to what you said.”
