Here's the thing: there's no way to pull Kirk's "surprise" move without crawling onto Bones's lap. This isn't the same as leaning on a desk that someone's seated 12" beneath. I think I got the proportions wrong in my illustration because it failed to show how absolutely lip to lip they'd be. It's also possible they could be whispering in each other's ears instead of talking mouth to mouth. If you don't believe me, try it yourself: feet on the ground, hands on the same surface your coworker the other person is sitting on.

Im sorry but i have to talk about how the FIRST shot we see of kirk is him gently touching a flower

His softness is so important to his character that we are meant to instantly recognize that this is him. THIS is is his establishing shot in this short and i think thats so important

So if what I'm hearing is true is right, Shatner was so upset about the idea of Spock having traveled to an alternate universe, away from everyone he had known and loved in the OG timeline, that he (shatner) bankrolled a 10 minute short film where Kirk is transported to that timeline too so that Spock wouldn't have to die on his own, but would have Kirk beside him.
