Absolutely gorgeous view of Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina.
I can’t help but wonder, how many memories are contained within this house, and how many secrets? How many people were born within these walls, and how many passed away? How much laughter could once be heard behind these stones, and how many tears were once shed? Today this is a ruin, yet long ago it was a home; a place of refuge, love, and comfort. The family has evidently moved, many have likely died, but this building remains as a skeletal tribute to a bygone era. It calls to us, it begs us to remember that the Camino is not only in the present but in the past. We are, quite literally, walking through history.

Another long-distance photo south from Fife, this time of Edinburgh’s beautiful, jagged old skyline.
It may be 20 miles distant but when the light is right stands out a mile. That’s Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags on the left, then Calton Hill, then the Royal Mile leading across to the castle on the far right. Quite a view today!

Located between Santo Domingo de la Calzada and San Juan de Ortega on the Camino de Santiago in Spain, Belorado has a population of only 2100 but it an feel pretty big after passing through dozens of tiny villages boasting a population no bigger then 50 or 100. There are at least 5 places for tired pilgrims to stay and a whole host of amenities including a pharmacy, post office, market and more.
