Medic whump my beloved <3
The world doesn't care that they're exhausted. It doesn't care that their head is pounding and chest aches, it doesn't care how badly they're shaking or how much their legs want to give out.
Their teammates are hurt and sick and dying and they are the only one who can save them, they have a role to fill and a job to do, because no one else can.
And whatever is going on with them? A bit of first aid and however many pain meds are needed to function will have to suffice because "resting" is not conducive to keeping their friends alive
Oh and if one of their teammates is in critical condition? They have to be prepared to stay awake for days on end monitoring (or operating) on them to keep them alive.
They dont get to stop and rest
(At least not until they cant go any further and their body gives out. Delaying much needed rest by slamming back caffeine & pain meds until the job gets done has its consequences after all~)
I love my exhausted medic characters so much <3
fave most precious trope lately is when someone was kinda weak/sickly while young and they grow up to be talented or strong or dignified or well known for something and like very respected. but secretly need their health looked after a little more than the average person and have someone close who worries about them a little <3
Are you back??? You were missed!!!
I think I am! And thank you for missing me. I found a local writer's group that meets monthly at our library and they've done a lot to help me get my motivation back. It's so fun doing writing sprints in person and then reading what we've written to each other. The feedback in the group is always encouraging because I'm only brave enough to attend the studio group for now and not the critique group.
Not only do I enjoy hearing nice things about my writing, I absolutely adore praising other writers and finding those nuggets of genius in what they've written. Every writer has a gift - sometimes it's dialogue or setting a scene or character development - and every writer is extremely doubtful and self-critical. So it's been very healing to sit in a room once a month surrounded by other writers who are just as anxious as I am!
Life is still absolutely bonkers because now my dad is in failing health and just had a heart attack and that keeps me busy enough that I've had to quit my job. But I've found that writing is a necessity for my mental health and I am addicted to kudos on AO3 so this December writing challenge looks like something I could tackle. I hope others will join me!
Fluffcember 2024
Heyho.
@alpaca-clouds here!
I was asked whether I would create Fluffcember as an official challenge this year, and I thought to myself: You know what? Why not?
Hence this blog - and a really early posting of the list.
Rules
This is a 1-month-challenge for fluffy fanworks.
All sorts of fanworks (art, writing, graphics) welcome.
We will however not accept any AI-Art or AI-Writing!
SFW and NSFW is both welcome - but please make sure to tag it accordingly.
Tag CWs if you share under this tag!
No minimum or maximum word count for writing!
We will reblog entries during the month of December!
If you have questions: The asks are open!
Full list of prompts under the cut.
Need a little break after Flufftober but also already looking for another event? Check out our snowy cousin, Fluffcember 🥰
Third-Party Sharing
This blog is currently dormant but if you have ever shared a post or writing or artwork here, please know that I have opted out of sharing any of this blogs’ content with third parties.
Miss you all. Be good.
people on my dash are annoying again and i'm tired of being a bitch about it so let me just say - if you read my fics and don't leave a comment, you're fine. it's fine. I'm not mad, I don't think you ungrateful, or an asshole, or whatever other guilt-trippy bullshit people spout here day in and day out. I post my stuff in the hopes of it bringing others joy, too, and yes of course comments bring me joy in return, but I don't think anyone owes them to me. if it brings you joy and i never know, if you "only" leave kudos, if you only lurk, if you literally never interact with me for literally whatever reason, it's fine. i promise. i love you. i hope the words bring you joy without there being any hang-ups about it <3
i hope you write (i hope we both write)

The first of many scanned articles from my treasure trove of The Best of Trek: From the Magazine for Star Trek Fans books: "A Look at Leonard McCoy" written by Walter Irwin, co-editor of the compilations. This character analysis was from the first book published in 1978. Many of the articles from Trek Magazine were fan-submitted pieces, a precursor to the meta found on social media sites today, so it's strictly for enjoyment and nothing should be taken as canon.
@only-one-of-each-of-us, this one is for you! I'll be posting the table of contents from the books as I can get to them and if anyone sees an article they'd like scanned and posted, let me know. I am using a terrible scanning app and doing almost nothing in post to clean up the scans so I hope they're semi-readable. Enjoy??
“why would you write fics for small, unpopular fandoms? you’re not gonna reach that many hits in fandoms not many people know about” ?? because I’m not writing fics for hits or kudos, I’m writing them for me because these characters are my blorbos and I have so many ideas, so much thoughts about them that my brain might explode if I don’t write them out.
"Self insert characters are cringe"
Bro I'm trying to survive capitalism with maladaptive daydreaming. Leave me alone.
Self insert fan content is literally the best kind of fan content.
Today was the Friends of the Library book sale at my local library and there were two entire tables of Star Trek novels including a 12-volume set of "The Best of Trek: From the Magazine for Star Trek Fans." I pounced on that set of books so dang fast, I can't tell you! The books are DELIGHTFUL - full of fan theories, fan fic, fan art, parodies, interviews, in-depth scholarly articles and spans the years from about 1974 to 1986.
@scriptrix-eclectica, look at your boy Walter, just look at him and that glorious mustache! And @only-one-of-each-of-us, an entire article about our Dr. McCoy, written from the perspective of a fan who truly loved his character. (Hit me up if you want to read the whole thing.) And my favorite article so far, an absolutely slavering love letter to Spock from a woman who also thinks most other women are in love with their obstetricians like she is. Ok? Bev, you all right? But I do feel you on the Spock thing.
Logic is the Beginning of Wisdom Tooth Removal, Not the End
I'm not even joking when I say I have been thinking about writing this fic since the first Sicktember 2 years ago. But at last, here it is! My second entry into the month of whump-tivities!
Summary: Ensign Chekhov has the unfortunate fate of having to have his wisdom teeth removed. Lieutenant Sulu is assigned the task of post-operative care and all that entails.
Sicktember Prompts used:
Prompt 25: Confused/Disoriented
Prompt 29: Side Effects/Adverse Reaction
Current top 5 favourite fics?
To be completely honest, I haven't read all that much fanfiction lately. But here's some of my favorites, in no particular order:
Rigors by Trillion_G: Post TWOK Chekhov angst (with a happy ending) and friendship with the crew.
Ritual by lastthatlong: AOS fic where Chekhov struggles with OCD. I have OCD and I often headcanon him as having it, too, so it was nice to 1) see myself represented in my favorite character and 2) see my headcanon put into writing.
All the Best Things, Come from Russia by icarus_chained: Babylon 5 x Trek crossover. Walter Koenig plays a cinnamon roll in one series and an evil genius in the other, so when fictional universes cross, shenanigans ensue.
Cuddles and Purrs by @treksickfic: All of @treksickfic's fics are great, but this one is especially cute. Domestic husbands and a cat, what more do you need?
And your No Promises remains one of my favorites. Munkus and Skimble never fail to be adorable.
Thanks for the ask!
Thank you so much for mentioning my story as one of your current faves! There is nothing like old married Spirk with a kitty. And now I have some new fics to read, too! (Including your potluck story, I am so far behind!)
