ive read over this line a thousand times and it only just struck me now that it’s ironic ianthe “i used my cavalier as a midnight snack” tridentarius is wrinkling her nose about having eaten a bit of harrow (okay i at least tried to phrase that tastefully)

does this indicate possible nuances of third house cannibalism? we have such little canon to go on that we can make this like so many things. is it only okay to eat people for like, necromancy reasons? are people you care about off-limits for munching on or is cannibalism an honor considered only for those closest to you? hmm

"i think you'd better get used to it, witchlet," and ianthe smiles, white teeth sharp and vicious. this is easy -- being cruel. playing the villain. she's done it before, every time coronabeth ran crying to their parents (crying had always been so easy for darling corona, with her big eyes and her pouty little face. ianthe had never been able to play the victim as prettily as her sister, so she chose not to compete.)

she resists the urge to reach out and touch harrowhark's skin, smudge her paint. resists it not out of fear -- apprehension, perhaps. if her little witch chose to snap and mutilate bone in response, ianthe would heal, but that doesn't mean she's looking forward to the experience. besides, being with harrowhark, up in her space like this, when the human's smelling of greasepaint and magic and blood, is just a long game of ianthe resisting her urges. it's gotten -- not easier, exactly, to not bite the little witch in that delicious spot in the juncture of shoulder and neck, see if she shudders, see if she squirms. (see just how much life she can take before harrowhark can cast one of her little spells, conjure one of her many wards). no, certainly not easier. more expected, perhaps.

but no. when -- if -- ianthe offers the kiss of immortality, she'll expect harrow to beg her for it. it won't come easy, of course, but nothing worth having does.
