Heres to people that suffer with dermatilloma.
Here's to the ones who pick your skin.
Here's to the ones who have scars.
Here's to the ones who wash blood off of their hands and scrub it out from under their fingernails.
Here's to the ones who developed it young.
Here's to the ones who have trichotillomania as well.
Here's to the ones who are trying to stop themselves, and are aware that they're picking.
Here's to the ones who try medicines and moisturizers and creams and intensive skin care routines.
Here's to the ones who have their dermatiloma in places that aren't obvious, but its still just as serious.
Here's to the ones who try to distract themselves with fidget toys and bubble wrap.
Here's to you.
You are stronger than this habit. There is nothing wrong with you. You are beautiful. You are loved.
to add to brow wig convo: i have been using them for years because my pulling is so bad that i dont have brows at all anymore. its 100% possible to grow hair under as you said, but it made my pulling worse over time cause i felt like i needed to have the wigs on as best as possible which meant smooth skin. looking into saving up the money i would be spending on wigs to get microblading done so i will be able to grow out my brows without having to wear wigs or makeup (minimal touching brow area)
I totally agree with this statement. The more your brows grow underneath the wigs, the harder it is for them to successfully stick to the glue. I ran into the same issue. And micro loading is a great idea! I loved mine when I got them done. They’ve faded over the two years that its been since my initial session but they are truly a life saver and at least act as a guide for where I fill my brows in now. Good luck with the microblading and let me know if you have any questions about it! 🖤
Did the eyebrow wigs hemp you not pull and you were able to grow your eyebrows back? Can they still grow underneath them?
Hey Anon! Thanks for reaching out! I can honestly say that the eyebrow wigs definitely helped me not to pull. I hardly ever touched my eyebrows when I had the fake wigs on. The falsies did not hinder growth of my actual eyebrows underneath, they actually really helped with the growth by keeping my natural hairs covered. Think of them like you would wearing a wig on your head.
However, at a certain point, the more hairs you have, the harder it is for the glue to stick. Once you get enough natural/actual hairs under the wigs, it’s more difficult for fake ones to stick to your skin. At this point, I start wearing the wigs less and have to try and deal with that transition phase which I have never successfully managed to get past. But to answer your question yes the wigs helped me not to pull and yes your natural hairs can still grow underneath :)
Do you have any experience with long term lash wear? Also, have you tried ghost bond glue for fake lashes? I pull from brows and lashes and am looking to revamp my disguise/makeup routine. I suck at applying falsies and have little patience standing in front of the bathroom mirror! I’m wondering if I can find a way to sleep, workout, and maybe even swim/shower for multiple days with the falsies staying on.
Hey Anon! Thanks for reaching out and apologies for my extremely delayed response. The longest I have been able to wear a set of eyelashes without having to take them off, “cleaning them”, and reapplying is about 2 days. With that being sad, I just pull out a new set and glue the new lashes on as soon as I take the others off, leaving as little time for my lash line to be exposed as possible. It can be super annoying to have to put so much time and effort into applying falsies but I can also be worth it when you see the outcome.
I have tried the ghost bond glue before but personally I prefer DUO. The green kind with the brush end to be precise. The brush makes it so much easier for a mess free application.
When my lashes get long/full enough (from wearing the falsies) I’d like to try to get extensions which have a longer lasting life. But extensions can be very expensive and sometimes cause the natural hairs to fall out if they aren’t strong enough. It’s something I’ll have to look more in-depth about before engaging in.
Another option I’ve been hearing a lot about but haven’t yet tried are magnetic lashes. I’ve seen them being sold in various brands and types but I’ve heard good things. They are mess free, without the glue, which is nice. The only stipulation here is that there has to be a decent base of natural lashes present for the magnetic ones to hold on to.
I’ve been thinking about getting some and just trying them out with the lashes I have now to gauge where they need to be in the future to work effectively. It gives me something to work towards and motivation to keep from pulling.
Hopefully this answered your question and let me know if there is anything else I can do :)
hello, I was wondering if you knew of any wig websites that look realistic and real, thanks!
Hey Anon! I’m not sure when this was sent, as it has been quite a while since I’ve been on my Tumblr but I still wanted to respond. I don’t have much experience with wigs (as I don’t pull from my head) but I have seen some really natural looking wigs featured on various instagram accounts that I follow. Ashley Wagner went to my neighboring high school and is always posting wigs that look SUPER realistic https://www.instagram.com/ashleyswagnerxo/
Like this one for example! Personally, I think it can be really tricky to pull off a silverish wig and this one looks amazing. So I might suggest searching for different wig hashtags on social media sites as a good place to start! I’ve seen the account https://www.instagram.com/uniwigs/ used by various different beauty bloggers. Additionally, when I’ve searched for the #trichotillomania hashtag on instagram several wig sites have shown up. And of course the TLC has their Hair and Skin Care Services Page that might be helpful!
Hi Friends! I know it’s been FOREVER since I’ve posted. I needed a bit of a mental reset…. BUT I saw this screen while I was in my dermatologist’s office today and it made me smile to think about the number of people that lay eyes on this digital poster every day.
I asked my doctor what her awareness was of the disorder since they had some digital signage referencing Trichotillomania. She told me they put that poster up because they know how hard it is for people to admit they are dealing with Trich and they want people to feel comfortable asking the staff about it. She recommended a therapist and encouraged me not to give up. She said that I can beat this disorder, it’s just about finding the right tools to help me along the way. She even shared that she personally had referred several clients that did have success at combating the disorder.
Seeing this poster just made me feel happy and gave me the strength and courage to try again to beat this painful and emotionally draining behavior. And... I thought I should probably share my journey again, as I have before, along the way. Looking forward to rejoining the community and growing with you all!
I got microbladed y'all! Will make a post about my experience and the different steps that were taken but wanted to show you a picture of right after I had them done today! Disregard the white/yellow ring around my brows as that is the effect of the numbing meds, it disappears after about an hour. Love themmmm! Look at those hair strokes!
what is the best kind of acrylic nail shape to not pull eyebrow hair with??? thank you!!
Hey Anon! Thanks for reaching out! Hmm there are definitely a lot of different shapes that we could go with :
Personally I would say without a doubt that the Stiletto shape is the hardest for me to pull with. However, not everyone enjoys that shape so the next best for me would be the coffin, almond or squoval shapes. If you like the stiletto look I would definitely try that first!
I am new to this but I'm reaching out for help. I have trichotillomania. I pull my eyebrows and eyelashes. I started this in middle school and have struggled ever since. I was wondering if anyone has ever tattooed either one if so how did it go?
Hey crs604! Thanks for reaching out! I know exactly how you are feeling as I pull from my eyebrows and eyelashes as well. I haven’t gotten my eyeliner tattooed but I have taken the plug with my eyebrows and I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Here is a picture from before when I used to draw my eyebrows on:
And here is a picture from a week or so after my tattoos healed :
I love my tattoos and it has honestly made my life living with Trich so much easier. Finally for once in my life (or since 9th grade lol) I can just wake up and leave the house without having to take the time to draw my brows, I can go swimming, wipe my face, sweat, etc. All the concerns that I really had before when I was drawing them on everyday are gone.
I got my tattoos from the Permanent Makeup Clinic in McLean, VA and they were wonderful. BUT **Important Note** : Before you decide to go forward with a tattoo make sure you have done your research! If you need help with this I will gladly assist!
I do have to have touch ups like once a year, and this year I’m trying Microblading which is something else I would recommend for Trich suffers. I’m going back next week for a touch up and I’ll be sure to do a post so you can see what it’s all about and how the results for me. Until then, here are some pictures from the Dollistic Instagram Account where I currently go for MicroBlading :
If you are feeling nervous about getting tattoos you can always try out a temporary tattoo first and see how you feel about it. I know that HeadCovers Unlimited Sells a variety of different options.
I can’t praise my permanent tattoos enough, however, after getting them I am more willing to pull my brows because the consequences aren’t the same…. Whether I pull or not the tattoos are still there… So I would kind of say that getting them made my pulling worse.Whether that makes a difference in your decision is up to you. But I hope some of this information has been helpful and here are the links to the more in-depth posts that I have done about my tattoos in the past :

Woohoo! I went live y’all! I’ve never done a video related to Trich or Derma so although I was a nervous fumbling wreck I made it through! Most importantly, I hope some of the information that I shared benefits others. If you want to check it out click HERE <3 Jess
We can all can relate to the universal feelings of isolation, sadness and anxiety. People with body-focused repetitive behaviors often struggle with similar feelings a result of their disorder.
But when BFRBs contribute to these feelings, they can become difficult to manage, and have a significant impact on our well-being. Limited awareness about these behaviors has made progress in research for effective treatment options difficult. You can help end the shame and increase awareness by watching the video, and sharing it with friends and family, on social media, in online groups - literally everywhere you can think of. Let’s stop this now.
HAPPY BFRB AWARENESS WEEK!!!
