The Headless Horseman is a headless spirit found in Europe. The Headless Horseman is described as a headless spirit who carries a jack oā lantern with him as a replacement for his lost head and he also rides a black horse. The Headless Horseman is in Washington Irvingās novel The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and was a soldier in life whoās head was blown off by a cannonball blowing off and destroying his head. His friends got his body of the field and buried him in the cemetery of the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow and every Halloween his spirit comes back from the grave riding a black horse and carrying a jack oā lantern looking for his head. The Headless Horseman chases Ichabod Crane but he cannot follow him once Ichabod crosses the bridge because the Headless Horseman canāt cross running water. The Headless Horseman is based off the Irish fairy the Dullahan who carries a whip made out of a human spine and he calls out a name and once he calls out that name the person dies.
