This is a video I made for my Experimental Video class. It’s inspired by a lot of different things; particularly the quote at the end, “Life becomes art when there is no difference between what we are and what we do.” 

If you have seen The Theory of Everything, then this sequence should look a little familiar to you; it’s the same song and some of the same styles with playing footage in reverse, playing it normally, and reverse again. 

My main idea behind this video, narrative wise, was that when we are old, we look back on our lives and who knows what we’ll remember. Usually we only remember the big moments; getting married, having children, etc. But what about all the small moments that still contribute to life and still make us smile? 

I chose my grandmother for this example because she is living with dementia so her memory is incredibly fuzzy but there are times when little moments come back. I decided to put footage from my life into the video to represent that one day I will be in her shoes looking back and I’ll most likely be remembering the big moments, but, if I’m like her when I’m older and have dementia, then some of these smaller moments may come back as well.
