Seeing Lua take off, Lucifer didn't allow himself to linger. It was better this way rather than letting any of the sinners get any ideas. Though, that thought in particular was moreso about the Radio One who watched it all, who couldn't care less about instigating it further.

But it's not as if the Devil had anywhere in particular to be, so head to his space within the Hotel he did.

He thought he might 'get back into it!', and

Well, he could spend time thinking of new ideas.

So he sat, thinking of nothing, wondering on and off if he might get a call from Charlie.

He was JUST about to convince himself to do something more entertaining, ANYTHING really, when he hears a knock an unknown amount of time later. Nothing changed between then and now.

"Coooooming!" He sing songs. An answer he would have given to anyone, unable to tell who was on the other end from the slight distortion of muffle. A little ironic if he'd heard the words at all. Lucifer spares himself one more moment of empty headedness before keeping good on his word and moseying over to open the door.

The genuine surprised look is a very good indicator that he was NOT expecting to see Lua. Maybe ever again. Which wouldn't quite make sense if they both still stayed at the Hotel, but, he had seen sinners walk out for less.

"Well colour me shocked, I didn't think I needed a house visit from the Hazbin Hotel psychiatrist!" Dropping it is a lot easier. He realizes that it's just what he'll have to adapt to, willingly putting himself somewhere with sinners. Because he thought they might have a chance, or because Charlier thought that, it's a nothingburger to getting to see his daughter more often, to make her think he fully believes even as he's blanking on where he stands this century. So there's an appearant openness in his voice, like he's about to invite her in for tea and company.

"I..." she nearly winced at the word 'psychiatrist', but tried to keep her composure. Lua had a whole speech mentally prepared before knocking, but the way he's acting did throw her off a bit. As unbothered as she tries to appear, she's actually quite easily flustered when things don't go as she imagines. Not that she expected him to sulk like a scorned child. Truthfully, she's not sure what she expected of him at all. All she thought about on the way here was that she needed to apologize and explain. Just like she did with Charlie, but without the whole offer to work.

Deep breath.

"I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry," she wrung her hands, eyes darting away. If he inspected her hands closely, he would see the untreated burns. Whether that's because she was too concentrated on everything else Still she tried to continue.

"I... You were just trying to help, and... I really didn't mean to snap at you like that. It was just a painting. I can always make another. I just..." her face darkens slightly, the quiver of her lip imperceptible, "... felt myself losing it, and I had to leave. Or I was going to make everything worse. But it's not your fault I couldn't... self-regulate."

I'm really not fit for this job after all.

Trying to be better and being better were two completely different things. Why does it feel like no matter how much she tries, she's doomed to fail? That the best she can hope to be is mediocre. It's that same feeling that put her in an early grave.

Turning away from him, she spouted off before departing, "Anyhow... that's all I wanted to say. I'll go now."

"Ahaa actually I just saw it and thought you'd like it." He had actually forgotten that Sinmas was just right around the corner. How long had it been since he celebrated? He couldn't remember anymore. Probably not since Charlie was young. That was before she had been taken away from him. After that the magic behind the whole holiday itself, sort of lost its charm. Lucifer had stopped creating trinkets and wonderous things like he used to do for Charlie. Yes, he made ducks. His ducks made him happy and helped him cope with everything. But that had been the only thing he had created for a long time. And that was exactly why his room was stacked and piled high with so many of them.

"Honestly, I sorta forgot about the whole Sinmas thing being a thing. Soo.. I guess I'm going to have to figure something out for that, too." @triple-moon-rp continued here.

"Aww, it's still lovely," she kisses him on the cheek, smiling gently, "Thank you for thinkin' about me, darlin'."

Truthfully, it had been a while since she celebrated just about any holiday, so she can understand. It took everything to just convince herself to cook a quick but subpar meal during her self-imposed four-year imprisonment. Baking felt meaningless if she wasn't going to share after burning bridges to past friendships. Games were low effort generally, but at some point, even they took too much energy. Leaving only doomscrolling and bedrotting outside of working just enough to get by.

Lua was trying to be better though. The hotel gave her plenty of opportunities to do so. This would be their first holiday together. In her eyes, that made it extra special. She still had her hang ups on receiving gifts from anybody - the anxiety and guilt associated with it never seems to go away - but she liked to give.

"Well... how 'bout you make me somethin', and I'll make you somethin', too? Call me a sap, but the best gifts to me don't actually cost much in terms of money."

That sounded about right. His expression hardly changes, still tense.

He values art, he really does, but he'd had beratings given over the livelihood of all sinners. Over immense, overwhelming choices that were his to make.

He'd had changes of heart, and thousands of years of thoughts on both sides and from multiple angles. In the end, sinners were sinners weren't they, and one more being angry at him was nothing.

If Alastor said anything else, then Lucifer wasn't paying attention.

Lucifer could feel guilt over every little thing that came back on him, but at some point, the only way to continue on existing was to accept that he was up there as one of the most hated beings ever created and THAT was never changing, no matter what Charlie said and what her dreams and feelings were.

"Sure. You're welcome," the Devil smiled at Lua, a clear shift in his tone and demeanor. Out of place, off colour, and just like that, he could let the negative emotions run like water off a duck's back.

Lua practically bolted out of that room, not paying any more attention to what the others say. All she could hear was static. Screw it. Her hand - and apology - can wait until her mind stops screaming at her. If she's going to meltdown regardless, she'd rather choose where while she still can. The quick pitter-patter of her feet led her outside, behind the hotel, and far enough where there was nothing but the barren hellscape.

Assured there was nothing around, she finally allowed herself to let loose. The wind howled with her scream and cursing, thunder sounded as lightning struck the ground, and a downpour that slightly drenched her clothing and fur. The mini-localized storm only lasted for several minutes before she was able to regain control. Still nothing compared to what happened when she first arrived, the one that nearly took herself out completely.

Deep breath. In. And out.

"It's fine... it's fine... I'm calm... I... am... calm," she repeated softly to herself as she rubbed her temples then played with her ears just to feel something soft in her hands, "It's just a painting. I can make more... fuck, I need to apologize, he was just tryin' ta help. I need to make him understand."

Once she felt like it was safe for her to return to the hotel, she left her little spot. It always felt awkward walking through the lobby after a bout of imploding anger, but she masked it well under indifference. Of course, Lucifer wasn't still in the damaged room. But Charlie was there.

"Are you ok? Alastor told me everything," Charlie asked with obvious concern.

"I'm fine," came the immediate scripted response from Lua before she posed her own question, "Where's Lucifer? I need to talk to him."

"Oh, I think he went back to his room, but-"

"Thank you," Lua interrupted and left to find Lucifer, hoping she could make him understand.

Standing in front of the door to his room, she knocked on it lightly with her unburnt hand, "Lucifer? Are you in there? It's Lua..." She really hoped Charlie was right that he did retire to his apple tower.

Came the much shorter response than his lengthy one previous. Luckily, not one for a loss of words, Alastor elaborated with a crackle of static. "That would defeat the entire purpose. A willing victim is going off a new set of emotion, and that isn't what I'm looking for. There wouldn't be any fear, or desperation behind those eyes. No looking up and pleading for their miserable life - a prime deal could be had in that vulnerable state. But willingly?" He made a face, wrinkling his nose at the audacity of it. "You don't get any of that, it would seem too close to a mercy killing. And I do not show mercy."

Alastor then laughed, that tinned reverb of his crackle coating it. "Of course I'm fascinating! I'm the Radio Demon! Any chance to talk I'm taking it!"

"... fair enough," stated as if she had been expecting that response after a beat of silence. Was there possibly a tinge of disappointment in it? Maybe, but it doesn't show regardless. It's still an interesting conversation to her. Perhaps she could make it even more so.

"Would you like to hear a lil secret, hm? Since we're not judgin' each other... This might come as a surprise, but I can see where you are comin' from. If I hated someone enough to the point that I wished for them to suffer, I wouldn't want to kill them immediately. No, I'd much rather they beg for me to do it, and then I'd get to tell them "no". But! There is only one person that I would love the opportunity to torture like you would. I'd be lying if I denied that a part of me looks forward to seein' him. I just hope he comes down here as something with some skin."

He didn't expect to be defended by Lua when Lute and Adam had come back down here. It wasn't like they were saying lies. He did get Eve to bite the apple, and make mankind fall into sin. All his failures thrown to his face, he was about to bite back before Lua stepped in.

He doesn't even register what she's saying until they're all gone.

"Well, I am thankful but I'm also glad you didn't get hurt for sticking up for me. You okay?" He doesn't understand why she'd do that for him.

Having to listen to the drivel of holier-than-thou types had to be some form of torture as far as Lua was considered. Growing up surrounded by them was bad enough, and her ability to tolerate holding her tongue has grown ever weaker since dying. It's a shame he didn't quite catch what she said.

She turns toward him, anger dissipating as she forcefully suppressed her sparks. The familiar feeling that came with defending her friend even if it meant turning her whole hometown against her came back to her at full force.

"... I should be asking you that question. What they rudely rambled on and on about was unnecessary! As if one person should bear all the blame when there's plenty to go around from top to bottom... Gifting free will is far from the worst thing to happen to humanity."
