âLight Meets Shadowâ
Setting: Horizon Labs Rooftop, New York City â Midnight.
Rain hums softly against the roof as thunder rumbles over Manhattan. Striker stands near the edge of the roof, jacket unzipped, lightning dancing faintly between his fingertips. Veil appears beside him â emerging from the mist like a whisper.
Before either can speak, a bright flare of magenta light splits the clouds.
Julie Power, a.k.a. Lightspeed, descends â energy wings unfurled, boots clanking against the slick metal surface. She shakes her hair loose and grins.
Striker (smirking): âYou just canât resist a dramatic entrance, can you?â
Julie: âI could say the same about you, Sparky. You light up the skyline every time youâre brooding.â
She turns her gaze toward Veil â assessing, curious, but not unkind. Veilâs misty form coalesces slightly, her outline glowing faintly silver beneath the moonlight.
Julie (tilting her head): âSo this is her, huh? The infamous mystery girl who managed to keep Jonas from setting something on fire for an entire week.â
Veil (dryly): âTwo weeks, actually.â
Julie: âImpressive. He usually canât go forty-eight hours without a small explosion.â
Striker sighs, rubbing the back of his neck.
Striker: âJulie, this is Veil. Veil, Julie Power â interplanetary peacekeeper, cosmic powerhouse, and the only person Iâve ever met who can out-sass Captain Marvel.â
Julie (grinning): âFlattery noted. Might even believe some of it.â
Julie: âAlright, Veil. Tell me something â what do you see in him?â
Veil (pausing): âSomeone whoâs still learning to believe heâs more than his power set. Someone trying to be better, not just stronger.â
Julie (nodding slowly): âGood answer.â
Striker: âWait, was thisâwere you testing her?â
Julie: âOf course I was. Iâve seen you crash and burn enough to know you need someone grounded.â
Veil (smirking faintly): âThen weâre both experiments in progress.â
Julie chuckles, visibly impressed.
Julie: âYouâve got bite. I like that.â
A sudden rip in the sky â a tear of crimson light â opens above them, spilling energy into the air.
Veil instinctively phases, her body turning to vapor as debris scatters. Striker charges his hands with lightning, and Julie rockets upward, tracing the anomaly with glowing contrails.
Julie (shouting over comms): âDimensional instability â Iâm detecting an echo from the Negative Zone!â
Striker: âThatâs a Friday night for us.â
Veil (focused): âIf itâs leaking through, we can contain it â but Iâll need someone on the other side to close it off!â
Julie: âGuess thatâs me.â
Without hesitation, Julie dives through the rift, her light illuminating the chaos beyond â streaks of red and black swirling through her wake.
Veilâs misty arms extend upward, holding the rift open just long enough for her to stabilize it.
Striker channels his lightning into her mist, merging electricity and ether like an improvised circuit.
The portal collapses â a shockwave of light and fog rippling across the skyline.
When it clears, Julie reappears, landing between them â slightly scorched, but smiling.
Julie (catching her breath): âWell⊠thatâs one way to meet the girlfriend.â
Veil (grinning softly): âYou make a good first impression.â
Striker (relieved): âYou both terrify me, by the way.â
Julie: âYou love it.â
Striker: â...Yeah, maybe.â
Julie steps forward, placing a glowing hand on Veilâs shoulder.
Julie: âYouâve got his back. I can see that. Heâs lucky.â
Veil (quietly): âSo am I.â
A long pause â then Julie smirks again, her usual warmth returning.
Julie: âAlright, I officially approve. Donât make me regret it.â
Striker: âYouâre acting like my older sister.â
Julie: âPlease. If I were your sister, Iâd have grounded you three dimensions ago.â
They laugh â all three of them â standing against the skyline as the storm clears, stars faintly visible between passing clouds.
Veil: âYou think this is the part where the credits roll?â
Striker: âNah. This is just the pilot.â
