Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse IÂ hadn't been planning to photograph this - partially due to weather, but when I realized I could see it from my back deck AND the sky was clear I figured I'd give it a shot. The intervals between moon shots is roughly 15 minutes.
Seattle New Years
The first sunrise of 2019 in Seattle!
So technically... this place is called Cloud Cap Point. Had I really thought that through, I may not have chosen to timelapse there, but at sunset I was so tickled by the view. Any rate, the first half of the night was clear, and the rest of it was gorgeous, moody stars.
This summer I have been to some amazing places to star watch. For this hike, I scoured cloud data, hoping we'd be hiking above the clouds. Weather changes, as it will, and we ended up hiking in the clouds... the peek-a-boo views of the mountain were ethereal. This was one of my favorite nights! Sharing the hike and views with good friends was spectacular. We got to chat up a park specialist who was staying at the lookout as well.
I've been wanting to try out a spot that isn't drive up, and this one did not disappoint! The hike was just under 6 miles RT (we did out and back given how dark it was, but could have varied the route for more excitement). Prior to the trip, I tracked cloud data for a few weeks - I was hoping to do a hike above the clouds. Well, conditions change, and we ended up hiking IN the clouds, which was spectacular in it's own right. The clouds ended up clearing out a few hours earlier than expected, which was an added treat. It was also quite cold - 45 f I think, but on the edge of a ridge next to a glacier. Â When we got to the lookout, a park specialist invited us in, chatted for a while, and warmed us up with tea. The rising half moon at midnight looked like a slice of an orange. All in all, a lovely night.

Deception Pass State Park February 17, 2018
Deception Pass It was windy and rainy today, and I was feeling a bit stir crazy at home so I headed out to Deception Pass. While there I spotted one of the Coast Guard cutters headed out. The waves were big enough that at times the ship almost vanished from sight!
Goodnight 2017 Moon I had a fantastic time spending the weekend with my family to close out the year. And here is my last photographic endeavor of the year... from my backyard!
O the light...! It never fails to steal my breath and my focus for the night.Â
I headed over to Green Lake this evening for the path of lights festival. They light the entire lake with candles every winter and have a food drive â itâs really lovely.
This shot took me a full hour to get â all five balloons never lighted at the same time, but thanks to long exposure photography, they are all illuminated in the same photo.
A couple friends and I headed out to the peninsula for nature time in mid-September. We'd been hoping for northern lights, but the region ended up being fairly cloudy during our trip. During the day the area was covered with swirling fog that moved like waves over the land - fast enough to see the differences in just seconds. There was one evening where skies were clear. Lacking a forecast for northern lights, I decided to watch the Milky Way from Hurricane Ridge.
When I arrived at the Nordale Road pull-off, the lights were going decently strong, but seemed to fade out over the next hour and a half. I considered leaving, but stayed, and around 3am the sky just bloomed. It came back at least 3 times as strong and was moving much more quickly. I am so excited to process the timelapses I took this evening!
Upper Lake Tipsoo Timelapse by trismi This was an amazing evening. Although, technically, it took me 2 nights to shoot this. The first attempted shooting happened on Saturday, September 17th. I set up my camera gear and was excited by the first shots as evening darkened. The last time I went back to check my lens for fog and make final exposure adjustments, a large, unseen animal began running around the field and lake my camera was in, bellowing at the top of it's lungs, preventing access. Turns out it was elk mating season. I was sure my camera would attract attention and be trampled, but I got lucky and it was fine. There are six parts to elk mating season. I did some calculations and returned on Tuesday night. There was a black bear in the field when I arrived; I saw mountain goats at the top of the ridge I was shooting below; and eventually I heard more elk, although it seemed to be more of a "we are here", not a "get out of my territory" call. All in all, I have a deeper respect for nature, came away with a decent timelapse, and will definitely plan future timelapses more carefully.
