"I see." And yet Trixie didn't, because if they were so terrible, if they were so physically taxing, she didn't understand why someone wouldn't just remove themselves from the situation.

And if there were people he stayed for, did they not help, did they not fight for him to help as much as possible.

Why stay.

"I guess any potions would be useless to avoid them if you don't know when they are."

The customers were, indeed, unhappy. Just as Giselle predicted. She apologized several times, but that only seemed to annoy them more, so Giselle went about refilling another table's water glasses before finally, reluctantly returning to the kitchen to check on the desserts.

"Are they ready now?" Giselle asked meekly.

"Yes they are ready and maybe you can take a look at a finished one and an unfinished and just see how different it is." Trixie lectured rolling her eyes even if the girl couldn't see it from where she was.

She just barely wanted to give Giselle her attention.

Trixie's stare made Giselle feel about two inches tall. She dreaded the confrontation she was about to have with the customers, but she knew she couldn't go against Trixie here. If she took the dessert and ran, Chef would probably hear about it, and then Giselle would be in even deeper trouble.

Goodness, she really hated this job.

"Yes," she said miserably, slinking back out to the dining room sans dessert.

Trixie sighed throwing her hands up in the air. Just for a moment. She had better thing to do than to worry about some feelings of the waitress.

The girl needed better standards and quickly.

Especially if she was going to work her.

But just because the girl was stupid, didn't mean that Trixie could let the guest down. So she turned around to finish those desserts.

The plate was snatched away before Giselle had a chance to grab it. She was aware, now, that she was wasting more time than she would have if she'd just let Trixie finish, but that seemed like all the more reason to just run the dessert out as quickly as possible!

"I don't- I don't know!" Giselle cried, exasperated. "But I'm going to get in trouble if they don't get their food soon, so please, just let me take it!"

"You're going to be in more trouble with me. if you ruin my reputation by serving a half finished dessert. So no. You are walking your ass out of the kitchen. You do whatever you need to do out there so I can do my job here and make sure I have a few minutes to do this and actually hold the proper standard of this restaurant. Think you can do that?" Trixie questioned still glaring at the girl.

"No - It's--... There's a lot of Swynlake's less appealing side that a lot of people don't know about." Gregory shrugged easily, his fingers wrapping around his wrist for a moment before he shook his head.

There was almost too much for people to know about anyways.

"..No point. I mean.. some of it is pretty uh.. annual, I guess. August is a.. typical month for some reason but. You never know when it'll come. You just go to sleep one night and..." He made a small gesture.

"What would you say if you could make sure people knew?" Trixie questioned with a raised eyebrow. She always thought it was so simple. People enjoyed it, no matter how much they complained.

That wasn't the case.

"Y-yes, it's a birthday," Giselle explained, glancing toward the kitchen doors nervously.

Any moment, the server she was assisting could burst through and demand to know why that table hadn't gotten their dessert yet, and it would be Giselle's fault, because she was the new person, because she didn't know what she was doing.

She reached for the plate. "Trixie, it really looks fine, I think I should just get it out there now..."

Trixie turned on her heel finally to look at Giselle making grabby hands for the plates.

"Stop right there."

Stalking over to her Trixie took the plate and moved it. "It looks fine? It's good enough? Do you think fine is enough? Do you realize every little detail of a plate matters? What if someone at the same table gets something different. If they see a picture online and see they got less. What happens then Giselle?" Trixie lectured.

"No... not for me." Gregory said easily, still playing with that plant in front of him before he sighed softly and shrugged his shoulders. "Not all of them are good. And - when you've lived here your whole life, you tend to experience a lot of them. A lot of different ways."

Some of them were fun - but honestly it seemed like the 'fun' ones were much more rare to Gregory. "...It just gets old when you're killed in them over and over again, you know?"

Trixie grimaced and then nodded. "Well now I just seem insensitive don't I?" Whoops, Trixie almost felt bad. Of course she had no reason to feel bad. She had no way to know.

But she hated making him remember it.

"Do you try to time them then?"

Giselle didn't know what to do. She never went against orders, that was something she'd been taught from a young age. But she was sure Trixie was wrong. The éclairs looked fine, and to Giselle, it seemed that getting food out on time was more important than perfection.

"M-maybe?" Giselle repeated. She didn't mean to argue with Trixie, but what did maybe mean? "Why don't I just take the one that's the most done? This one looks really good." Giselle reached for one on the end. It looked done to Giselle.

"What are you doing to do? Take one? Are they only asking for one?" Trixie's back was still turned from Giselle as she worked, after all if she couldn't have this spat and keep working she didn't deserve to be in the kitchen.

Except she wasn't paying enough attention.

Surely the girl wouldn't just take a dessert half plated.

He paused, then added, “I guess capitalism makes it particularly hard to do just that and honestly I’m probably gonna be shit out of luck when I graduate but… well, that’s a later problem to figure out.”

Trixie laughed at the thought and nodded, "Sometimes I see the worse of it. People who are so rich they think they are above so many rules." Trixie had a good backing by now, you didn't live for a long time without accumulating wealth.

But she hoped that would never change her,

"If you could do anything in the world what would you do. And yes I know i'm no longer asking the questions."

“I’m in Castle Suites,” said Holley. “So, I keep most of my plants on the one windowsill that gets good sunlight. I’d love to have a vegetable garden one day, but that definitely requires more space than a flat.”

She raised both eyebrows.

“Have you got a big garden? Are you going to plant anything besides flowers?”

"I wonder if this town would ever set up a community garden." It would help a lot of people who wanted that space, It just wasn't something Trixie personally wanted to take on, she wouldn't be the one taking care of it.

She liked gardening but not this much.

"I wasn't planning on it. But I live in the Woods so I have a large space. Just I can't garden in the sun, much too easy for me to burn."

"No, but..."

Giselle glanced over her shoulder anxiously at the double doors, which seemed to be in a constant state of swinging back and forth as servers rushed through them. She needed these éclairs now. Didn't Trixie understand that?

This was the thing that really scared Giselle about working in a restaurant. Everyone was so tense, and conflict could break out at any moment. Conflict that was usually quashed just as quickly, but it still made Giselle nervous. She had always thought restaurants were as refined and calm behind the scenes as they were in the dining room.

"I can tell they're getting impatient," Giselle insisted. "They keep looking at me."

"No but?" Trixie sighed, "Good work takes time. There is a standard and I intend to match that standard. Why don't you go run another dish and in the time maybe I'll have it done for you."

AKA get out of Trixie's space because this girl's panic rubbed off on her and pissed her off.

Sebastian couldn't help the amused huff that slipped by his lips, watching the other woman. "Ah - is that so? I suppose I would not have any complaints if this were the case."

After all, it was not like he was spending much time doing anything else these days, right? "...In fact, I would consider that a lovely piece of information to have. That any day, you could around the corner with another surprise up your sleeve, no?"

She did love a challenge,

She couldn't surprise him with food, she would have to think about something different. So now she needed to figure out what that meant.

Gregory felt his gaze shift up towards the stranger, his lips pressing into a thin line for a moment. Was it kind of a benefit? To remember the dreams Swynlake put him into more than his own. Gregory remembered his dreams. Some of them - but he almost always remembered a Swynlake dream more. Dying in the hunger games. Dying on the Titanic. Dying in Harry Potter. Sleeping with his best friend. Living a life so much different than his own - but never much to his own benefit.

His blinked - but then forced a smile again. "Ah - yes. I suppose that must be nice then for you." Gregory said instead, sifting through a plant lightly.

"There's quite a few weird quirks about the town but not all of them are bad. The dreams are just.. little adventures, I suppose."

"Not for you?" Trixie questioned, much too personal she knew but there was something about his voice that made her want to question it. To know a little more.

"Or I suppose the dreams are not the quirks you like?"

Once the excitement of getting into Professor Sánchez's class had subsided and her time with the Phillips ended, reality set in. For the first time in her life, Giselle needed to find a job. She'd put a post in the local Facebook group and a flyer on the Town Hall bulletin board about babysitting services, but it was hard to find anything regular that worked with her new school schedule. Enter, Gusteau's.

It was, at least, a very nice restaurant, with cloth napkins and sparkling glassware. The food reminded Giselle of the things her family would cater for holidays, rich French food drenched in butter. She'd stumbled her way through an interview and and training and now, here she was, in her uniform and sensible shoes, her first shift as a server assistant.

Already, tensions were high in the dining room. "We really need those éclairs," Giselle fretted, hovering by the pastry station.

Trixie glanced at the new server, blinking at her astonished and almost annoyed she was trying to rush her. The only person allowed to rush her was the person running the pass.

"You'll have to give me a moment. I am finishing up the plating. Are they scream, crying yelling yet? If not we have time." Trixie stated simply as she set the éclairs on plates to get started.

"Simply a part of life, right?" Because especially if it was something they were born with or had for so many years, it was hard to miss the thing they couldn't have anyways. Now there were some foods that only later Sebastian realized he'd grown intolerant too as well, and in that case, there were times he wished he could go back.

These days though, it was just normal. Which was why whenever someone seemed to pity him for the lack of things he could do or eat he could only shrug. "I am sure there are many more things that could be surprising to me though so. I do think you will continue to have fun."

"My whole life." Gregory replied easily enough. He was a native though, so of course he'd grown up through every little Swynlake hiccup, disaster and recovery. Sometimes it didn't seem like Gregory was truly a native though, if only because it seemed like these events, these dreams, these situations - they affected him far worse than it seemed to for other natives who brushed them off with a laugh.

Though he supposed it was a little different when he was stabbed, sacrificed, and the like. His fingers twisted a bit around his wrist but he blinked the thought away, shaking his head. "You get used to it." Eventually...

"It might be quite silly but I find I never remember my dreams outside of here so the idea that this town has such vivid ones sometimes. It's kind of a benefit. Which I know we're not specifically talking about. But weird as Swynlake gets it's kind of nice." Trixie didn't know if she would ever get used to it.

But the bad usually outweighed the good.

Especially when she knew a lot of people here probably wouldn't hate her for her own magic.
