okay, so, I think 80% of the fandom and fanfiction sands down the characters to have a more sappy found family.
Rebecca is not the motherly type at all, she is a dedicated scientist who works through her dinner breaks and pull regular all-nighters. The only reason she is so caring towards Rex, is because she, emotionally at least, lost her little sister, and caring for another teenager is a bandaid on that pain.
The only reason Six is so protective of Rex, is because he wants to believe in what Rex sees in Six. He wants somebody to look up to him like Rex does, and not just be a killer in everyone's eyes, his own included. Six wants to believe he can still be the person to be looked up to.
I don't mean to say that Six or Holiday don't develop that need for care for Rex further, however, I do want to emphasize it started for both the Work TM (lead researcher and bodyguard) and for their own emotional reasons. Neither of them is fit for anything resembling family caring, they just try what they can.
(takes a deep breath) okay and now for the stuff that will get me expelled from the fandom:
Holiday does not really do hugs, her way of caring is sticking a thermometer at you, or some advice if she is sensing a personal issue. She is not motherly-caring and sweet, she is nurse-caring, as in effecient and mechanical in motions (through repetition).
Six is emotionally unavailable as he ever is, Rex just learns to feel for intent behind the robotic gestures and tone. It does not mean the gestures or actions themselves are gentle, Six rarely is.
Rex is lucky he had some semblance of social life and family before getting into Providence, otherwise he would be emotionally underdeveloved and repressed like all the military staff is. For that same reason he will never call Six anything close to 'father/dad', because 1) Rex Had an actual father somewhere sometime in the past, 2) Six's name is, after all that time, and all the things they went through together, equivalent to 'father' in meaning and there is no need to voice it outright. (even repressed self-centered Minus-Six pinpoints his and Rex's relationship accurately, nothing more needs to be said)
Personally, I just feel like sanding down the characters into more caring/familial versions of themselves is dimming down the child soldier tragedy of Rex. Yes actually, there is a child that, by all means, has been stolen by a military organisation as a research subject, carefully kept away in secret for years and trained as a soldier to be used by said military. Denied all and every child protection service, of course. That is kind of a crime. They are not a simple 'unconventional workplace family'. Every single character in the show, including his one friend even, are or were Rex's jailors, who will never let him out. In fact, all his attempts at any kind of freedom or escape are punished in some way.
He still finds a loving family in all that.

In the lore, Biolizard would have grown too fast and too powerful, thus failing, but Gerald used Doom's blood as a stabilizer for Shadow. With that in mind, In my HC he grew to near adulthood rabidly, maybe 2 years or something, but not so fast that he would have been overwhelmed by the power. He grew in spurts, each stage gradually slowing down.
There will be more baby Shadow, I promise. Still trying to figure out how I wanna draw maria... this was a while ago, though, so I will try again soon.
Kids do grow up fast though, I once saw a boy grow a foot in like 3 days. Wild stuff, tbh.

But this was actually a very lovely prompt, so I hope you don't mind I used it as an opportunity for some wholesome moment during The Providence Defectors arc - the lil defectors family having a rest between missions.
Genuinely interested in what y’all think about Breach’s final act in genrex, which is to portal away VK and the pack before they can be cured.
The first time I watched it, I saw this is a sort of “Welp I guess Breach is evil again??” moment, because it seemed like she was getting the pack back together. Taking Biowulf and Skalamander kinda made sense since they never wanted to be cured and are probably the closest people she has to ‘family’, given we never see them explicitly treat her badly. VK, on the other hand…… for a second I considered it more of a “kidnap to torture” thing where she was planning to get back at him since he’s obviously weakened at that moment . But then why not after he’s de-EVOed and less of a threat? Just didn’t really fit that vibe.
And then, if she really was saving VK, doesn’t that kill her entire character arc? From being the creepy schoolgirl ghost horror trope to a fleshed out character shown to be a deeply traumatised, abused and lonely child who was taken advantage of by VK. The end of season 2 was literally a turning point where she chooses to save Rex over VK and maybe realise how shit VK was treating her.
Of course, narratively, that whole thing was to tease the loose end of the pack still being out there, jic the show got a continuation or something. But Breach specifically doing it is driving me insane. She’s so fricking vague and I feel like the writers were doing SOMETHING with her until s3 went off the rails and they had to tie everything up real quick.
ALSO, the way the show is framed starting and ending with Rex doing the same thing kind of points in the direction of “we’re right back where we started but different”, which also makes me think breach really did go back to the pack.
Eridians cant "hold their breath" like humans do, their vents dont close completly so water can still get in, if they fall in water they drown and die. safe to say rocky is not a fan of when grace does it for fun xD

I love you ending that reveals capitalism and greed and the drive to profit off of scientific discovery rather than using it for global progress perverts the best intentions and the real villains aka rich corporate bastards often end up unscathed while everyone else suffers the consequences and also huge mecha robots throwing down is the inevitable outcome of all this
pov: grace tries to explore outside the biodome, only to find himself in a first person horror game in a foggy pitch dark hellscape with many alien rock spiders, scuttling in and out of the darkness. at least they're all friendly!
