It's a valid tactic
for every incel white man star wars dudebro there is a teenage lesbian with a slightly deeper and more obscure knowledge of star wars who will one day defeat him in battle
Hey do you know what rumination is?
Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.
Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.
Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.
I'll say it again:
Rumination is a compulsion.
Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.
I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.
And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.
Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.
Like this was genuinely life changing for me.
Here are some of the ones that were most helpful to me:

it really is crazy how there are so many influencers with millions of followers i have never heard of in my life
every day someone is like ‘have you heard about the situation with johnny youtube?’ and i go. pardon. who the hell is that
my cat is completely obsessed with watching the bathroom sink drain and I have started calling this "her shows." as in when I'm in the bathroom and she meows and runs up I'll be like "oh you want to watch your shows?" and run the faucet for an extra few seconds so it fills a little. she will then sit there at the edge of the sink for ages totally entraptured by the drain. blorbo from her sink
cmon child safety lid you know it's me
WHAT does this tag mean
Richard Nixon once called in staff to help him open an allergy-pill bottle. It was the childproof type of bottle, with instructions saying “Press down while turning.” The cap had teeth marks on it where Nixon had apparently tried to gnaw it open
lmfao what the fuck!
source: richard nixon: a psychobiography
i can’t find the reblog chain that mentions it but it’s important to me that people know it was richard nixon himself that had signed the legislation requiring child safety lids on pill bottles

Shout-out to aromantic people whose lives are so fucking busy that they periodically forget what day of the week it is. today is Wednesday, June 5th. Happy Aromantic Visibility Day.
Today is Thursday, June 5th. Happy Aromantic Visibility Day.
It's June 5th again!
“Perhaps you have forgotten. That’s one of the great problems of our modern world, you know. Forgetting. The victim never forgets. Ask an Irishman what the English did to him in 1920 and he’ll tell you the day of the month and the time and the name of every man they killed. Ask an Iranian what the English did to him in 1953 and he’ll tell you. His child will tell you. His grandchild will tell you. And when he has one, his great-grandchild will tell you too. But ask an Englishman—” He flung up his hands in mock ignorance. “If he ever knew, he has forgotten. ‘Move on!’ you tell us. ‘Move on! Forget what we’ve done to you. Tomorrow’s another day!’ But it isn’t, Mr. Brue.” He still had Brue’s hand. “Tomorrow was created yesterday, you see. That is the point I was making to you. And by the day before yesterday, too. To ignore history is to ignore the wolf at the door.”
- A Most Wanted Man, John le Carré
Hey guys, June 5th is coming up, and you know what that means: the anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s death! So don’t forget to set aside some time with your toilet to spiritually piss on his grave
Happy deathiversery to Ronald Reagan! Fuck you and everything you stood for!
Since that Folding Ideas video put me in a very "man, fuck Call of Duty" kind of mood, I also went and rewatched Yhatzee and Jacob Geller's videos on the subject. In his review of COD Ghosts Yhatzee says he kept a list of every character in the game who wasn't a burly white dude and who the player is under no obligation to kill and his final count was two (actually three because he was generous and counted a robot helicopter with a female AI voice which I think is stupid) and they are a female extra who dies in the intro and the one single black member of the titular Ghosts unit who also almost immediately dies.
Now that's already funny enough but it was while watching Jacob Geller's video on COD's use of (or rather wanton obsession with) torture scenes I noticed something. The gist of his point was that in the entire franchise, badguys always immediately crack from torture and spill because they are, of course, of a weaker breed of person while the goodguy's unbreakable wills and superior moral purity allows them to both resist and perform torture with a 100% success rate. That is, Jacob Geller concedes, with the exception of one. Across the entire franchise sporting 20+ entries and nearly 50 separate torture scenes there is exactly one single instance where one of the goodguys cracks under torture. He writes it off as just some anomaly.
I on the other hand actually noticed something very funny after watching those other videos and I could not believe how amazingly appropriate it was. If you guessed that upon examination I realized that of course the one outlier was Ajax, AKA the aforementioned one single black character who then immediately dies from Call of Duty Ghosts, you would be correct. Holy actual shit. Fuck Call of Duty.
Outside the plentiful signs on the financial side of things, the deciding reason I think the AI bubble will collapse sooner than later (knock wood) is that many AI proponents are starting to shift their behaviour similar to how nft and cryptobros shifted before that deflated.
First they just mocked sceptics like Dan Olson and called them rubes and spreaders of FUD but their confidence remained. Then they started actually getting angry and saying that sceptics were actually sabotaging the future and that faith in their tech is a moral imperative for a better technological future.
They are doing the same now with people like Ed Zitron. First it was all ‘you don’t know what you’re talking about, you don’t understand tech’ (without meaningful explanations on why and how their thesis is incorrect).
And now they’re getting all worked up, filling comment sections of stuff where sceptics appear with this belligerent sense of being under siege and insistence that faith in AI must not be undermined etc.
Behind the scenes the financial house of cards that is propping up this industry is wobbling, but on the main stage you can basically smell the desperation in the way AI proponents are trying to coerce, shame and neg people into using their loss-making spam-vomiters.
This is a perfect time to read the brilliant and unforgettable graphic novel(s) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution, and the rise of the oppressive theocracy that persists to this day.
Both graphic novels are available free online (Persepolis vol. 1, Persepolis vol. 2)
It also was adapted to a wonderful film (co-directed and co-written by the author) which is available to watch for free on Sundance Now (sign up for the free trial)
