Kitty had been simply enjoying having her powers back, floating suspended on air molecules twenty feet up. Being able phase at will, not having to worry about whether she really needed a daily use or just wanted it- it was so freeing.
There was just the tiny wrinkle of the frickin’ war going on. Absolute chaos, strong preying on the week, and she couldn’t keep up what with stashing the villains in bubbles underground, rescuing bystanders, etc. Just too many targets.
Then she spotted someone she knew, the shock of white hair recognizable anywhere. Kitty was about ten feet away when she realized that the girl was from the other city, clearly pissy about something, and that was being lunged at with gloves off. The young woman phased, letting the teen pass through her harmlessly, rolling out of the way so Rogue couldn’t make a second swipe.
“Rogue, what the heck! I’m not your enemy, we’re friends, remember?”
"Friends? Us?" She let out a cruel chuckle. "Can't be no camaraderie among X-Men and the Brotherhood."
With a swift flip, Rogue collected the previously discarded knife and darted it at the older girl. "Can't be no friendship with those that choose to save what must perish if her own people are to survive. Why are you fighting' against nature, Pryde? Against your own, when the human race has so rarely shown us any kindness?"
She dashed at her again, stopping only to twirl around her and aim a grip at her neck. She had fought against the girl before, a younger her, that was prone to mistakes and mild ramblings which left her wide open, but this one's age and experience with her intangibility would make for a hard win. All Rogue needed was just the slightest brush of skin against skin, just one tiny slip up.
"You realize, we could be friends, right? If only you had some degree of sense in that airheaded brain a'yours."
