Before Tenzin was born and before they found out that he was an Airbender, Kya and Aang were very close with Aang having Kya and Bumi always with him, playing and teaching them about his culture
Kya was a daddy's girl, but later she was closer with her mother
When she was a child, she loved combing her two heritages in her clothes, using both blue and orange colors, but out of spite for her father, she only showed off her water tribe heritage
She's the most spiritual child out of the three
Kya has more of an Airbender values, lifestyle and personality than Tenzin
She loved playing with Tenzin, so she invited him to play with her and Bumi, but he either declined to study or he would be dragged away by their father (To teach Tenzin and take him on trips)
Some Air acolytes mistook her as a visitor, a friend of Tenzin or a student of Katara
Many times, Kya waterbends as an Airbender
One time, Bumi told her how he felt about their parents and their preferences (aang being closer with Tenzin and Katara with Kya), so Kya started to spend more time with him and uncle Sokka and she let him watch her waterbending lessons
When Bumi left to go to the army, she was happy for him, but also upset because she felt like her only support wasn't there anymore
After a while she left too
Bumi preferred colors that aren't associated with any nation, cause it made him feel more independent from his parents and their heritage
Bumi and Izumi were in love, but it never involved into something more due to different priorities and work
Like Bumi and Izumi, Tenzin and Lin didn't work out, but even after many years of the break up, Tenzin and Lin didn't stop loving each other
If Tenzin didn't feel the pressure to reproduce and carry his father legacy, he would still be with Lin
Kya met some new people, but she never felt the same as when she was with her first girlfriend
Kya and Jinora are very close and often do yoga together. Their relationship is similar to the Zuko and Iroh's one
Even though Tenzin loves his children more than anything, sometimes he can't feel the connection he had with his father (connection = the pressure he felt by aang)
Tenzin doesn't want to admit it, but he knows he's more Katara than Aang
When Bumi left, Katara was very worried about her son, so they wrote to each other very often and got closer as the years passed (Katara never knew Bumi didn't feel very connected with her as a child)
When Bumi failed to bend, his parents discussed, Aang worrying about the end of the Airbenders and Katara worried about Aangs' distress. Bumi heard it all and carried the weight with him for many years
After Kya and Tenzin were born, he wanted to run away because he felt like a burden. He knew from the moment Tenzin breathed, Bumi would be a shadow (he wasn't wrong)
Bumi, Kya and Tenzin, sneaked from the air temple and watched pro-bending (sometimes, Sokka would accompany them)
From their parents friends, Bumi preferred Toph, Kya preferred Zuko and Tenzin preferred Sokka, but pretended he liked Aang more as a hero
The siblings would have drawing competitions
When his siblings left, Tenzin became even more serious and stoic (Aang tried to make him feel more joyful, but he failed, his siblings only being able to bring his childish side out)
Katara never acknowledged their problems, cause she wanted Aang to be happy. Aang never understood he played favourites (mostly because his focus was on Tenzin). Tenzin having good relationship with both his father and siblings never knew about his siblings feelings and dad's behavior towards them
Aang loved them all equally, but he failed to share that love as equally
If Tenzin was bullied, he would try to solve it peacefully (he totally failed)
Kya also would fight her little brother's bullies off
