Rachel's Holiday Advice
Forgive.
I know that's a big word that no one really likes. Trust me, I'm one of them.
A year ago, around this time, I made a huge decision that flipped my and two other peoples world.
I reported a crime.
A crime that I was a victim of.
It was the scariest, most difficult thing I've ever done...and I'm still reeling from it. Still healing.
Since then, I haven't heard from the other two, but I assume that they are still out there, living in the wake of my reporting them. Maybe they've moved on...maybe they haven't. I don't know.
This year, I made a promise to myself. I was going to do whatever I could to move on. To forgive both them, and myself.
It's been a hard journey, and I wouldn't ask you to take it if I didn't already walk the walk myself.
So this year, in the midst of the holiday rushing and spirit. Between relatives that hate you and relatives you hate, between gifts and pie and cake and cookies...
Forgive.
Even if they refuse to forgive back.
Even if they refuse to look you in the eye or take you seriously.
Even if they hate you more...
Forgive them.
Have a Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Happy Kwanzaa/Happy Holiday/Happy New Year/Whatever you celebrate or don't.
