Smite Me, Almighty Smiter | Riku Fujino | School Trial [RE: Shin, ATTN: Kana]

Riku recoiled at the bone-chilling voice emanating from the T.V., and in spite of herself she allowed her mouth to flop open in abject shock at the appearance of the mystery girl. Whatever she had been expecting when the investigation concluded, this had certainly not been it. The tsukkomi’s lips moved slightly as though to say something, but no sound came out. She was aware of the fact that Sora had tried to vote for Kana, judging by Monobear’s reaction, but as she had feared, it was impossible. 

She was snapped back to reality by the sound of Shin’s voice, but this time, she found herself glad to hear what he was saying. Nodding, Riku cleared her parched throat and directed her attention towards the alleged spirit of Kana.

“There was no proof that they were real claw marks from some kinda demon – if I took a knife and sliced a few horizontal lines next to each other, they’d look close to the same. Heck, maybe someone even got a weapon from the capsule machine that would be capable of leavin’ slashes like those… like a pair of those ninja claw things. Y’know what I’m talkin’ about.”

“Anyway, yer talkin’ some real big game right now, but ya can’t even get Masamune to put the doll down on the ground, for pity’s sake. Shouldn’t someone so great and powerful at least be able to move around on their own? Or are ya actually so weak that ya can’t even do that?”

It occurred to Riku that it was slightly unfair of her to try calling the demon girl’s bluff when she wasn’t even the one holding the doll, but surely Date wouldn’t mind. Right? Right.

“I mean, as long as yer hangin’ around for the rest of the trial, why don’tcha turn yerself into a doppelganger of Mackenzie-san again and do a little song and dance for us in the courtroom? I bet ya won’t do it. I bet you’ll just say ‘tee-hee, I don’t need to prove myself to you~ ♥ ♥ ♥’.   Yer not gonna show us any of yer silly ghost powers, because like Cowboy-san said, yer probably not even real.”

“ –Oh no no no—Wait a just a second there, Shin Hayashi-kun. Don’t think you have the privilege to ignore me – and call me an “it”. It’s “she” for the record, yeah? ❤ I’m Kana Hijiri!“

Her eyes rolled back towards Date.

“ –Ohh yes, my little card. Doesn’t it seem suspicious to you that Masamune-kun hasn’t announced that he’s had me yet? Or that I left a little note? Seems like he’s withholding vital information, doesn’t it? –And hasn’t he killed before? Ohoho—seems like he’s just saving the skin off his own ass huh?~ “

As she began to address the idea of masterminds, she had held her breath listening to it all, only to burst out in laughter. The very thought of Hyouri Himeno masterminding ANYTHING, was a huge joke.

“ PPFFBBT—god… You all are really incompetent aren’t you? Look at him, he’s a soggy wet towel, he couldn’t mastermind a successful game of checkers if his life depended on it. “

“ It’s so funny to me, someone like you Hayashi-kun, who chases –what was it? Aliens? Is so quick to believe a human did all of this. Really quite rich! You’re making me bust a gasket, hahahaaaahhahe~! “

Her laugh was as unsettlingly cruel as it was childish. Again she tilted her head.

“ Actually, I want to hear your explanations, I’m sure they’ll be a real Punch and Judy! “

“ Mmmm….so…. from the top— “

“ How exactly—did Hyouri Himeno leave deep scratches on the indestructible walls of Mizu – with claw marks? “

Sora, his eyes glued to the screen all the while, types in a vote for Kana. And then... he waits. Does it register as valid?

“Hey, kid. What are you even doing there? Do you see a button for a "Kana”? Because I sure don’t!“

School Trial - Shin Hayashi (paranormal)

Shin stayed silent for a long time, but was apparently one of the first to break the silence.

“Level heads, people.”

He squinted, staring at nobody in particular.

“…If anybody read that ‘card’ it’s speakin’ of, now’s the time t'say it. That said, we can’t execute a doll. Can’t execute some fuckin’ entity on a screen. Can't convict that kinda being. Personally, the only thing I think this lends any credence to is the possibility that our mysterious mastermind might be in the midst of this bullshit, if any a'y'all catch my drift. Seems awful special that only one person has this sort a’ destructive killin’ machine attached to ‘em.”

Shin cleared his throat.

“Now I ain’t got no evidence, nothin’ concrete. But this shit don’t exist in reality, we can all know this damn well now. The very circumstances surroundin’ our comin’ together in th'first place confirm that. Someone, I forget who… Brought up virtual reality. I’ve suspected that from the beginnin’. And anything can happen in virtual reality, includin' a bunch a’ horsehockey maskin’ itself in horror movie tropes. I got theories, but…”

He appeared to almost go on, but cut himself off.

“…If anyone got anythin’ interestin’ t'share 'bout anythin’ like this, anythin’ concrete, now’s the time t'share. This trial’s more 'r less over.”

"Yeah, okay." Yori rolls his eyes visibly, gives a look to Kana-sama, and votes for Hyouri.

Sora wasn’t having a good time.

Well, no one was, really. His not-good time was only really notable in that he oh-so-bravely retreated to Kaze as soon as he could, purposefully keeping away from where the obvious evidence would be. Maybe he thought there would be some obscure hint hidden away in the hotel, or maybe he was just being cowardly…? Well, it didn’t really matter either way, because it soon became obvious that what he had to contribute to the trial was absolutely fucking nothing.

(Except thinly-veiled jabs at Haru, apparently.)

“Oh, yeah, y’got me there Uotani. I’m obviously just bidin’ my time until I can pull out some proof that you pulled an axe out of yer ass. C’mon, get over yourself…”

“But hey, you want an argument? ‘m sure I can think of somethin’ to get your gross jean panties in a bunch.”

He actually did have a theory, something weird and complicated involving cell phones and stealing Hinatea’s id card– but, well, before he had the chance to say it and get proven wildly wrong… Kana happened.

And there was only one thing that the slack-jawed Sora could do in response to that.

Something about the courtroom changed very drastically, you could feel it immediately. However, it was impossible to tell just what it was… was it quieter? More humid? Colder? Darker? Given the nature of the entire discussion, it boded of ill will.

The display monitor turned on of its own accord, flashing a static filled channel that seemed to be attempting to gain a better signal. However this did not sound like regular static – it was shrieks, moans, the sounds of cats and babies crying.

A voice rung out, mixed in with the other sounds – it sounded completely inhuman.

“ You couldn’t or you wouldn’t, Himenoo ~~ ? “

All at once the static cleared…

“ Good eveeeening everyone~! ❤ “

A young girl with beautiful long black hair greeted you now – as soon as she knew you could see her a smile miles long broke out on her face.

“ Well well!~ What an adamant group you are! Perhaps you should try having fun sometimes? Just pull those sticks out of your asses, if you can, with it stuck that high up, hehehehe~ “

Her head tilted and she flipped her hair over her shoulder.

Despite being on the TV, she locked eyes with Date Masamune. The one who had indeed been holding her this whole time, unnoticed. 

“ Uhuuhu I’m flattered for a stud like you to be holding me but—do me a favor, ok?~ ❤… GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF ME, YEEAAH? “

Again this girl on the screen laughed, before stopping cold to look over everyone.

“ So what’s this? Didn’t you all read my little card? Or are you just THAT fucking stupid? ”

“ –And don’tgive Himeno my credit; he wouldn’t hit a mosquito with his own two hands – he’d let it drink his blood as a courtesy.  “

Cut with a Double Edged Sword || Hyouri || SCHTRIAL || the pain is real.

Suzume was trying so hard to be his crutch, to speak for him when he couldn’t. Speaking was always a labor, it always came out wrong, wrong structure – wrong vocabulary.

‘You’re overworked, please just get some rest.’ Gram would always say… now look at him, he couldn’t ever wrong the right of not talking to her for an entire half of a year. Or his mom… she was so sweet…. Even to such a horrible mistake like himself.

“ …. You all… really hate me that much… d….d..do..n’t you? “ 

And his face heated up even more. Wincing as he heard Yori call him a “sick fuck”.

(( ‘Wahh wahh wahh – Himeno-san, Himeno-san, hiding in the bathroom stalls!!’ Pounding on the doors, children, pounding on the stall doors.

Her….. walking up to him, placing a razor blade in his hands after school, she’d just smile… laugh, and walk away. ))

It wouldn’t even matter if he told them, how he broke his the heels of his boots running around to find the real killer, it wouldn’t help to tell them he dropped his coat somewhere because he felt so hot… too hot, and it wouldn’t help to tell them all of the hair in his room was his mothers.

Hyouri Himeno had always wanted to believe there was perhaps one place he belonged in the Earthly sphere; unfortunately, there was not. There never would be.

“I don’t care what happens to him.” “Who cares anyway?” “Just execute him, I don’t care.”

“ … I’ve lived….life of torment… she….Kana…. She’s always m—m-m-om—made it ss—-s-so hard… “

There wasn’t even sense in making sure she couldn’t hear him now.

“ I just…wanted to live too.… to be happy. ..  I wanted … just one friend. “ His breath hitched in his throat.

(( ‘Haaahh, Himeno-san, don’t you think pigs shouldn’t wear skirts, think of all of us~?’ ))

“…That its—-selv… was too selfish  of me. … so I just… stopped car—caring about myself! I didn’t let anyone become my fri—end… like I was…supposed to. “ “ I was….keeping everyone el—se safe…and I… failed…”

The sting as he closed his eyes shut was all too familiar… “ K—k—kk-kkudo-san “

“ —She… w…wanted me to care…about myself… maybe… It wasn’t r—real… “

“ … but it was… Kana-chan… she hates m e… so much… but I sup–ppp-p-pose… that’s my fault as well… “

“ Black salt….e–exorcism….. nothing works…. b–but I wanted to belie…ve her that it…. wasn’t r–real….. maybe… it was just in…my head… I can’t… tell you, I can’t pass on …. this burden… no one else needs to get h–hurt…“

Hyouri leaned forward and gripped the edges of his podium, his head downcast to have a torrent of tears hitting his selection screen.

“ …. Even though I’m… nothing…more than a monster… don’t I also…deserve to live?…”

“ Kudo-san….  Said yes….. so…. “

“ Aaaach—- I c—cc-ould never…EVER do that to her……But I will vote for myself… if it makes you all have some….k-kind of resolution. “

Hyouri was ready to leave this earthly form, hugging the Hinatea doll close.

Would there be serene peace in death? Probably not… it was too late for that now.

“I took some granola bars last night. I tend to get a bit peckish at night. Usually don’t leave m'room unless I have to. And… Y'never know what kinda shit Monobear’s gonna throw at us. Best to be prepared.”

He paused, clearing his throat.

“I know y'all ain’t heard nothin’ from me, but y'all seem t'be in capable hands this go-around.”

He stared at the center of the circle.

“Some things y'just don’t wanna have t'see.”

And he left it at that, voice lacking the edge he took in previous trials.

Jinkies! | Riku Fujino | School Trial [RE: general discussion i think,??, ATTN: Hyouri]

Her stomach still quivering and wobbling dangerously with every step she took, Riku took her place at her podium. The image of the crime scene was still burned deeply into her mind, and the investigation had hardly helped her take her mind off it. She shot a worried glance in the direction of Haru and Sora, but otherwise remained silent – now was neither the time nor place to get caught up in discussions about past trials.

(Not that that was stopping a good majority of other students from voicing their grudges). 

“All I found that hasn’t been brought up was a box of granola bars which looked like they’d been touched recently… there was only one of ‘em left. But unless the ghost doll was feelin’ a bit peckish and decided to have a midnight snack, I’ve got no idea how they’d tie in to the murder. I guess someone else could just have easily been gobblin’ ‘em up before Kudo-san was… urk. Y’know.”

“I actually took a look at Kudo-san’s room too, but there isn’t much I can really add to what Yamaguchi-san already said. The hair in the safe looked to be ‘bout 10-12 cm long, and it didn’t smell like dye or marker or nothin’ like that. The scrapes and slashes ‘round her room looked smooth and not jagged, and they never went that deep. I think it a sharp knife coulda managed that much…”

Riku allowed her sentence to trail off, and tugged nervously at her collar. The talk of supernatural occurrences and the photo of the supposedly long-deceased Jericho was making her skin crawl, and the corners of her mouth twitched upwards in an anxious grin.

“I, uh, don’t know if voting for Kana…-san would work. Back in the first week, I tried to vote for Monobear, and the vote went straight back to me. Since she’s a doll – or, uh, a spirit, or whatever – and not a real student, I kinda doubt that he’d let that slide. Not to mention the fact that it’d be mighty tough to actually execute somethin’ without a body.”

“Himeno-san, if yer up to answerin’ any questions, maybe it’d help to know a little more about what Kana-san is. Like where she came from or somethin’, or what she wants. J-just in case, y’know? I mean, I’m ain’t scared of no ghosts! My grandpa was a spirit medium, so…”

They looked up from writing at the sound of Yona addressing them by their surname, blinking their eyes a few times. Hair? What–

“…I cut my hair like, a while ago. Aideen can vouch for me. I wanted to cut my hair because of personal reasons, but I kept messing up each time that I cut it, and eventually it got to this length. Plus, my hair has been bleached… and I bet it would feel differently from the doll’s hair.”

Trailing off at the end, they thought about the last part of Yona’s argument that was directed to them for a few moments. Then a scowl appeared on their face, with a hint of absolute

written all over on their face.

(Of course, this wasn’t intentionally directed to Yona– this was more towards themself, and they really shouldn’t make a face like that. People will misunderstand.)

“… Say… did you just imply that I dressed up like him because I had pink contacts and the picture shows him with red eyes? That’s gross for me to do– that’s so, so gross… there is a thing called the ‘red-eye effect’ with photographs. If the flash was on, then someone’s eyes could look to be red. At least, that’s what I’ve heard.”

An awkward cough came from the positive psychologist.

Oh hey, someone else is addressing me. 

“… It is not a problem. But… a glass shard? Now, I’m not the thereminist– but then again, she said stuff about mirror shards– I didn’t suggest glass or mirror shards, I think? I stated that there may have been a sharp object involved. It’s possible to cut through someone’s neck with a knife. It would be really, really difficult for someone of average strength. As for your other questions… I’m unsure on the victim’s limbs. But I’m never submitting to the idea that it was the work of ~supernatural beings~ because frankly, I think this place is a virtual reality. It makes so, so much sense for it to be. And evil spirits in a virtual reality sounds like a bad movie plotline and should not exist. L-O-L. I think that’s an actual movie, actually. Wasn’t it called–”

Haru Uotani, by no definition of the word, could be described as being “fine.” That was irrelevant though, because everyone was supposed to think they were fine! Because they totally were!

Sure.

A few hours and a handful of bad life decisions later, along with a… rather interesting conversation about aliens that cannot be disclosed publicly lest they threaten their entire lizard-people world domination scheme thing, Haru felt strong enough to leave their room and head down to the trial. Another trial from hell. Would there ever come a week where the murder trial didn’t make them want to repeatedly bash their head against their podium until rendered unconscious? L-O-L. Probably not.

(They nodded at Ren briefly as everyone filed into the room. What a good kid.)

But first, back to this █████ that had a lot to say about them the other day in the past trial.

Shortly after the initial argument about whether or not Hyouri was truly the culprit— which seemed pointless, because what other fucking option was there— started, Haru spoke up for the first time.They leaned over the edge of their podium, getting a good look at a certain classmate standing a few feet away and flashing him their teeth, pulled into a grin that could only be described as belonging to a huge douchebag.

“Wooooooow, Nishida, not gonna accuse me of murder again? Nothing I love more than having to prove my innocence over and over and over again despite there being no logical explanation for me killing anybody this week; come on dude, have some fucking fun with this, fail miserably again or something. What bullshit argument couldja pull outta your ass this time…”

They laughed, otherwise completely ignoring the rest of the trial. Which is totally not just because it’s late and Lex is exhausted and she wants to get a small post out before passing out for the second time today. Nope. Not at all. It’s not like they had much to add to the current discussion either— they rolled their eyes, plugged in a vote for yours truly, the man of the hour, and let the rest of the class do whatever the hell they felt like.

Apparently, the salt was still very real.

Rad people were addressing her!! Though they sound like they misinterpretted her statement!! Gotta fix that!

“Hm….I should have explained what black salt is.”

Oh boy here we go.

“Black salt is salt made with number of herbs and cast iron filling and rust, one can obtain this by scrapping their cast iron cauldron or pot and mixing it with salt. Furthermore simply sprinkling it around with out charging it with energy or having clear intentions of its purpose is renders the salt ineffective.”

“Its also innefective if what you are banishing is much stronger than ones on magic." 

Masuyo sighed sheepishly

"Considering how Himeno-kun does not seem to have any skill in magic or witchcraft, even if were to use this method…..it would not have worked.

Sorry boo.

"Ah….the medulla! Yes that what it was, many thanks for you reminding me. Nay, however, i have another question to ask. How can a glass shard cut through someones entire neck? Also how did her arms end up so contorted? Was she pushed down a flight of stairs? Or is that something that no one has figured out….

Was someone else referring to Masuyo?

"Frankie….? Is….that a nickname?”

Her eyes twinkled. If could see them, i mean. Still she was oddly delighted by this.

Class Trial | Yona | Sprite [RE: Kaya, Kuma, Aideen] [Ayano & Masuyo mentioned] [ATTN: Suzume]

“Are you done yelling,” Kaya had said. Well, after all that she went on to say… unfortunately, no.

“ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME?! I didn’ vote fer that Jazzy girl ‘til she got proved th’ killer without a doubt, after Shin tol’ everybody ‘bout her missin’ chunk of hair! I'm NOT sure that Himeno-kun did it withou’ a doubt, so tha’s why I’m stirrin’ up such a fuss! It ain’t th’ same thing at all!!”

“Th’ hell’s yer problem?! Th’ thing’s you 'n’ me can’t find ’re th’ ones that prove yer point, not mine! Wha’ do I got t’ prove?!”

Yona listened to Kuma’s safe theory quietly, by some miracle. It sounded like he had the wrong idea of what was going on, but honestly Yona hadn’t seen the inside of Hinatea’s room, so she couldn’t say for sure. But the last part he said felt like a punch in the gut.

“…Eh? Wha’ th’ hell ’re y’ sayin’ ’execute 'im, nobody cares’?”

“Wha’ th’ hell is wrong with you?! Yer cool with jus’ sending a human bein’ t’ die withou’ settin’ th’ record straight? What is he’s innocent?! If ya wanna know 'who’, I care about th’ 'how’! If ya can’t explain how he even killed her, I ain’t gonna vote an’ send him t' die if ’m not convinced he did it an’ didn’ have no alternatives!Yer a human bein’, too, aren'tcha?! What the hell!”

Alright now that Blow Up #2 against Kuma was over, was it finally time for Yona to chill? Well, she didn’t blow up at Yori. He at least was trying unlike everyone else so far, from Yona’s perspective. And Shion was… kind of on her side, but kind of not…? Mirror shard as a knife, though… that was pretty smart. But Yona cleared out of that bathroom so fast she had no idea if there was a bloody shard around…

Hearing Masuyo speak up, Yona nodded along. That’s right! No one had even attempted to explain how doing all that to Hinatea’s body was possible in the first place! 

Yuuki, though not on Yona’s side, was at least attempting to explain how things might’ve happened, so that was cool, she guessed…

And then when Suzume started talking again, Yona’s heart fluttered with excitement. She hadn’t thought of a lot of it that way! Though… to be fair, her hearing with Suzume’s statements did get a little selective when it came to approaching the idea that Hinatea’s killer was a human.

And then there was Aideen. Oh, well. The silence was good while it lasted.

“It's Yona. Fer all yer talk of contributin’, y’ ain’t been contributin' nothin’! Yer jus’ throwin’ everythin’ out like it’s a given! There ain’t no effort there! Heck, y’ can’t even say anythin' new with what y’ were sayin’ t’ me! Yer friend over there already wanted me t’ try t’ prove it was a ghost.”

Yona thrust her thumb out, pointing in Kaya’s direction.

“But, y’ know what?! Fine! I’ll do it!”

“So, like, I ain’t sayin’ th’ doll was movin’ around and could pick up a knife like Chucky or nothin’. Like, y'all say the picture and y'all heard what Himeno-kun said. He said, like, it was an evil spirit tha’ was possessin’ th’ doll. Maybe it could, like, manifess? An’ transform t’ look like Jericho t’ mess wit’ Kudo-san, 'cause she was his friend if I’m rememberin’ right. Bu’ if that’s not a thing… We don’ know where all th’ dead bodies go, do we?! They couldn’t a jus’ vanished…! Like, after all th’ trials an’ stuff, th’ bodies disappeared in Mizu, but we ain’t up in th’ air, we underwater. An’ Jericho’s body wasn’… really affected when he died. Like… he didn’t really have… outside wounds. Maybe Kana possessed his body an’ moved it around from wherever Monobear’s been hidin’ th’ bodies?”

“An’, y'know what? It doesn’ even have t’ be ghosts, there’s lotsa ways it might not a been Himeno-kun! What if Kana-chan was actually a robot?! Jus’ like th’ Monobears! Y'all didn’t even bother sayin’ anything about how there’s been dolls walkin’ around killin’ people th’ whole time! Teddy bears are dolls! How can we know fer sure Kana ain’t?!

An’ y'all keep talkin’ about where black hair came from, bu’ you…”

Yona pointed at Ayano. Who just introduced themself, come on, Yona.

“…Katsuki? If y’ were that long black hair red eye lady who came in at th’ end of last trial, where all yer black hair go?! Couldn’t any of it a been yers? An’ Jericho in the picture had red eyes!”

And then Yona pointed at Masuyo.

“An’ Frankie was in tha’ other corrupt photo thingy tha’ Kana was in, bu’ if y'all ’re insistin’ tha’ it couldn'ta been th’ doll in the picture on Kudo-san’s phone, Frankie’s th’ other one in th’ picture!”

Oh my god, Yona, it’s week 6 you should know their name’s Masuyo, not something you saw on their shirt during the sleepover.

“If she’s been in pictures with Himeno-kun an’ was hangin’ with him, she must be friends with 'im an’ she tol’ us she knows 'bout Kana-chan and she’s a witch or somethin’ maybe she can transfigurate her appearance or somethin’ an’–”

Wait, wait, wait. Yona’s argument was supposed to be that a human didn't kill Hinatea. Was she calling Ayano or Masuyo not human? Suddenly, Yona grimaced and seemed to physically shrink.

“Sorry.”

That came out as little more than a squeak.

“Um… Um I mean…! Uh… Ghosts, right? How else could, uh… th’ bed get cut right in half like tha’?”

“Uh… Suzume? I didn’ actually… see th’ inside of Kudo-san’s room. Couldja go through everythin’ that was goin’ on in there again, like in a list…?”

Ridiculous.

Absolutely ridiculous.

“My name is… well, I’m the Super High School Level… Positive Psychologist. Actually, that’s a lie, but whatever. Pleased to meet you. I believe I am also known as Katsuki Ayano.”

“Now then. You have… a fair point, I guess. Although I personally will not agree with the idea of blaming the supernatural for this kind of murder, do as you wish. You are entitled to your own opinion.”

With that, they took out a composition notebook from their jacket, and set it down on the podium, opening it up to a half-written page of… well, stuff. They took out a pen from a pocket, and began to scribble words into the pages, tuning out the rest of their classmates.

Okay, that was a lie. They listened, but they kept writing without a word. It wasn’t as if they had a profession in the supernatural– they followed the law! They promoted social change– they didn’t deal with things that aren’t caused by humans. 

(’–motive in writing this book is not to directly attack the corporation with hostility, but rather to expose the secrets that they, as a whole, have been hiding from the public eye. They perked their head up from writing.

“In the last trial, you weren’t yelling bloody murder to find out all the details as to how everything went down, yet you still voted for Jazzy nonetheless.”

(Ah–)

Their hands carefully place the pen down on the podium, and they properly listened to the chaotic mess that the trial was descending into. Well, they mostly listened to the people who mentioned Jaz, and what Shion-fucking-Tsuzuki had to say. 

(The sound of her voice almost made them gag and cringe.)

“Thereminist– whatever your name is. Sorry, I forgot your name. What was it again? Actually, don’t answer that question. I don’t need to remember it ever again.”

“Can’t you drop it? Y'know, the topic of Jazzy? I realize that the last trial was hectic for all who participated in it, but this is a new case. What, do you find enjoyment in trying to make people emotionally riled up? Resolve this outside of court. Or just stay quiet if you want to talk about that topic some more. You’re not making yourself look so great in front of everyone, so please, can it.”

Their hands twitched a bit. This was probably a futile attempt at trying to defuse the tension between people, but hey, no one can say that they didn't try.

When Masuyo spoke up, they reopened their notebook and continued to write– but they listened to what she had to say. And boy, they weren’t a happy camper at the end of it. Not like they showed it anyways.

“Now then.”

“The medulla oblongata. That is the term. The victim's medulla oblongata was severed. It’s a rather specific place in all honesty– you’d have to have a sharp object to try and sever just that part. And judging the state of the victim’s neck– well…”

Small giggle.

“<<… the culprit probably wanted to say to the victim, ”knife to meet you!“>> Oh, but that’s assuming that a knife was used in the neck area. Hmm. Then… << stab-you-later >>? These sound much more better in English… nyahaha.”

They paused as they listened to what Yuuki had to say.

“Yeah, yeah! What does the main suspect have to say? The public is dying to know! Well, these people do. Whatever you guys do, have fun.”

At this point they didn’t even care on participating in this trial, They went back to writing in their notebook again, probably not speaking again unless addressed. They needed to write this– and they couldn’t spend time on debating in a case that they wanted no part of.

Hey you, whatcha gonna do | Kaya | Chapter Six | Trial | RE: Yori, Shion, Masuyo, Suzume

Yori earned a genuine smile from Kaya - it was nice that at least some people listened to the points she made, instead of glossing over them and still demanding proof that a doll - an unmoving object, something that wasn’t alive, that couldn’t move or kill -, did the deed. Even though she had already brought up many points to exactly do that.

It was getting ridiculous by now.

And then, Shion started to speak.

The more the thereminist spoke, the bigger Kaya’s frown got. There were already lots of points that she wanted to make, but when Shion directed her words at her and said those specific things.

Yeah, Kaya was not taking any of this shit, because she was anything but chill now. She stared straight at the freckled thereminist, giving her a rather unforgiving look while gritting her teeth and lowering her eyebrows.

“Shion-san, could you please keep your mouth shut if you don’t contribute anything useful to the trial?”

Her tone was nothing short of icy. It seemed like someone finally lost her patience with Shion.

“Honestly, I’ve had it with your brattish attitude. All you ever do is be a jerk to everyone and act like as if you’re better - newsflash, you’re not. You’re not above us, you never opted out of this mutual killing game, you’re not so much smarter than us - you’re just as much of a human being like the rest here. You’re just as much stuck in this horrid game like everyone here. So stop acting all high-and-mighty and think you’re a special snowflake. Because you.are.not. Finally accept this.”

Kaya took in a deep breath, her hands gripping the podium hard. It seemed like as if she tried to not simply explode and scream at Shion.

“Now, moving on to all your points. First of all, I have yet to see that someone actually tries to disprove any points that I’ve made - which build on actual logic and not supernatural occurences.”

“Second, I would not trust you to gain control over the Islands, because you would just use it for your own selfish desires and probably use it to be petty. I can live without that.”

“Third, it’s funny how you talk about being pragmatic when you didn’t do said thing in the last trial. No, you were delighted to send someone off to their death. That’s twisted.”

Seems like someone was bitter about Shion’s behaviour in the last trial, huh?

“Next up, is your memory failing? Because let me remind you what actually happened. Jazzy only brought up Date-kun AFTER the trial was over. Beforehand, she was simply joining the bandwagon that had already formed, because you people are quite eager to send him off to his death. And don’t you dare call her disgusting, after your disgusting behaviour the whole goddamn stay here. And if anyone is contradicting herself all the time, it’s you. You never really stood up for your defiences, you’re just glossing over it and act like as if you are always in the right. Which you are not.”

The salt is unleashed. Help.

“… I’m done talking to you. Say what you want, but as long as it isn’t something that is linked to the trial, please, just spare me with your utter nonsense and grow up.”

Then, the tall woman spoke up and all Kaya did was glance at her with a bemused look.

“… Do you realize that you just proved Yori’s statements even more? Because if the doll was actually possesed-”, cue the tone of a nonbeliever,”Then why didn’t Himeno-san just use black salt to expel the evil altogether? Or at least tell Hina-chan about the salt to keep herself protected? Either way, it just leads back to him being irresponsible.”

She didn’t even bother with the spirit talk anymore, because she was honestly sick of it by now.

Then, Suzume was beginning to talk and lord, she had much to say. Then again, so did Kaya, but the girl seemed to be exasperated by now.

“… Are you being serious right now? Circumstantial? Since when is a picture, that clearly depicts Himeno-san, “circumstantial”? Or any of the other logical points that were made, really. Because I don’t see how any of them are mundane, when the only thing you provided so far is some ghost shenanigans.”

“Furthermore, don’t you think it’s awfully convenient that Kana-chan is missing now, when there’s so much black hair lying around? I’m pretty sure that the length could match hers from what I’ve seen in the last trial. I hope you don’t want to accuse someone with black hair, because nothing else points to them. Also, it didn’t seem to be dyed.”

“Now to the next point - alright, so Jericho-kun’s room wasn’t involved, after all. Still, Aidy already pointed out that Himeno-san wore a hoodie at one point. Also, it’s possible that he might have gotten glasses from the Monomachine. We all know that the machine can give about everything to you.“

“And let me point out again the similarities that you just can’t ignore.”

Just imagine Kaya explaining this picture.

“At least you see for yourself that it’s possible that the damaged or bloddied clothes weren’t found. Furthermore, haven’t we already said that Hina-chan must have trusted the culprit to let them into her room? And lo and behold, Himeno-san fits that perfectly.”

“Also, there isn’t a single rule that forbids you to dispose of the evidence through throwing it off the Islands. It’s just that nobody did it so far, for some reason.”

Why were they even debating, it was all so obvious and yet people kept derailing it for nonsensical reasons…!

“And that alibi of Himeno-san’s? I’m sorry, but we can’t believe it. Haven’t we all learned by now that people are more than willing to lie? Especially if it’s for a friend? So really, nothing you’ve said so far convinced me in any way to believe that some demon came in and killed Hina-chan. Which is rather ridiculous to claim and an easy copout to think of how things went instead of truly trying to explain it rationally. Also, I have offered explanations, but it seems like as if you’ve glossed over them and call them ‘mundane’. Hmpf.”

“Also, seems like I must repeat myself - self-framing is a thing. Do you really believe that anyone here would work out such a frame job? Then how do you explain that they got access to Hina-chan’s room? How do you explain that they got ahold of Kana-chan? I didn’t hear anything about that. If anything, you should stop with your tunnel vision and obsession that a demon did it.”

“Unless you come up with something that makes actually sense, I will not change my vote.”

God, this was so annoying.

Right now, Kaya understood Aideen a bit more when she said that she was irritated by others.
