I don't actually stick to a single process, usually! Between different pieces, I tend to try different techniques to see if any one is best for me and what i wanna achieve.
The one thing that's always the same for every drawing is that after my lines are ready (be they messy or clean) I always separate each color into a different layer, that way i can make selections easier and not go over any other colors! Like this 👇
Then in some artworks like this one, that have a lot of environment and real to life lighting (or just a lot of different colors to manage) i shade everything using multiply layers! Then after, if i want to adjust any part, i can always use a selection from the color layers to change it anyway i want. Like here! 👇
Though there are other artworks where I shade straight on the color layers! Usually when it's a simple render or something with fewer colors. It does mean you need a grasp of color theory, but it's pretty fast when you learn it! Four examples below where i did that instead 👇
Anyway, after that, I usually paint over everything! Since everything under it is already usually kind of clean, it's mostly to fix things, or integrate characters into a scene. It really makes a difference in the end though, as well as any adjustment layers to fix any values or colors! Like so 👇
I don't always do things this exact way of course, I'm always trying new things or revisiting old ones, or adapting to whatever art I wanna make! I like to think I'm pretty flexible with it. That, or i'm just throwing stuff at a wall till it works. LOL. I hope that my rambling was fun to read, anyway!
