The name 'Otegine' came from the fact that the shape of its Saya/Koshirae (sheath) is shaped like a Kine (杵,mallet) used in the olden days. Another saying is that the wielder Yuuki Harutomo once used the spear during a battle and he had approximately 10 human heads pierced onto Otegine. As he was on his way back to the castle (...with the heads on the spear), one of the heads in the middle part of the spear dropped off, making the spear seemingly look like a mallet.

well, according to his lines and things i could capture and implement to his personality is,,, he actually likes to fight and duel (i’m probably too detailed but listen to how his speaking tone changes from dorky to serious between horse or field-related internal affairs lines and sparring lines lol) lmao… sure, hideyasu loved this spear and spoiled him to no end, but all that he wants is just to be useful in battle and please his current master. as you can see from his recollection with doutanuki, he seems to regret for being born in a relatively peaceful era (not sure tho— muromachi is still chaos lmao) because he rarely got used in battle. and that’s what a spear is made for no?

but that doesn’t mean he can’t go all out serious in battle tho! he’s eager to prove that he’s equal in terms of strength with the other two sanmeisou(s), as y’all can hear from his awakening line. so when the time’s right… it’ll happen… eventually!

(ps. maybe when his enemy hurts his master or his most valuable friend will trigger something similar too)
