And just like that we’ve got 3 boys 🥹 we had an amazing home birth on Wednesday 4/16. The 15th I lost part of my mucus plug which has only ever happened when I was in labor so I kind of was thinking I’d go into labor at some point. Tried clary sage diluted on my belly and the contractions got a bit more intense. Like actual contractions not just Braxton hicks, nothing painful, just crampy. That was 10am. Then I texted my midwife a heads up and went on about my day. My mom came and we spent time playing with the boys all day, I walked, did the miles circuit and rested. 10pm comes around and he’s moving like a maniac. I’m thinking maybe he’s trying to get into a good position so I try the first pose of the miles circuit again, roll back over and my water breaks. Text my midwife again and let her know but still no contractions. She tells me to try and get some rest and call if I need her. I rest and finally fall asleep around 12:30/1 and by 2:10 I woke up to painful contractions. Timed a couple, they were 5 minutes apart. Woke Brian up, texted my mom upstairs and called the midwife who said she would leave in 5-10. We get the bed ready with a plastic drop cloth and their sheets over ours so they can clean after easily. I labor in the bedroom until the midwife and her two students get there and she asks if I want to be checked to see how dilated I am, I say yes and the student checks and says 5-6, then the lead midwife double checks and says no that’s definitely 7. Because of my last labor I know I’ve maybe got an hour or two left. That was at 4am. After the exam it gets a bit more intense so I move into the shower for some relief, I stay there until I feel like I’ve hit transition, I let them know “hey I think I’ve hit transition, this is very painful” and they say “you wanna stay there or move to the bed so all you have to do is roll over and lay down?” That one. So I move to the bed, have 2 contractions that are painful before the fetal ejection reflex kicked in and he was out in 3 pushes. It was amazing. Birth time of 4:58. Brian caught him and handed him to me, later cut the cord and weighed him 🥹 they were all very impressed with how I “made such a small deal out of birthing a whole person” lol it was such an amazing experience all around. They did a full newborn exam about 5:30 and Brian weighed him in at 8 pounds 12 ounces, the runt of our litter! They checked for ties, made sure all reflexes were present and his latch looked good. Midwives were just packing up and leaving when Jack woke up at 6:30. Such an amazing experience. Welcome to the world Leo 🤍
