Tuc Music Spotlight March 2016: Tinsahe’s Joyride Tour: Center Stage, Atlanta, GA – March 19th
If you’ve never been to a concert in Atlanta, I must inform you that it is truly something remarkable to experience. The sense of family in the south is inevitable, making the vibe of a concert stronger than ever. I had seen Tinashe before when she came to Syracuse University back in the fall of 2014, but that wasn’t her own tour so I was expecting a lot more. As soon as she came out, I realized how much we had truly missed out. From her opening acts to her very last song, the show was insane to say the least. When I first arrived to the show, there was no line outside so my prediction was that the turn out would be rather low. I was wrong. Before the first act came out the entire venue was packed and continued to grow with loyal fans. The Joyride Tour is honestly a must see. Let me bring y’all through the ride…
The Shadowboxers
For those of you who don’t know, The Shadowboxers is a soul-pop band originally from Atlanta, GA. The band got together back in 2008 at Emory University before coming up with the band name The Shadowboxers to mimic rhythm and method. Believe me when I say this band was insane. When the band first came out, matching in reddish quartet suits, I had no clue what to expect but as soon as they picked up their instruments, it was on. The first thing that attracted me as a listener was their lead singer, Adam Hoffman, whose voice sounded too perfect. The band had a sense of rhythmic unity that I haven’t witnessed even in the best and the soul was more than evident. Their music is unexplainable. On the contrary to other bands, every song had a different musical style that took you back to the 70s or 80s with modern vocals. They had my attention the entire set but I knew they were magic when they covered “How Does It Feel” by Lauryn Hill ft. D’Angelo. Pulling it off would be an understatement.

I have a lot of respect for this DJ right here. Watching a DJ perform can make listeners more ancy than ever, simply because you’re watching someone play music for the house rather than a performance. I mean, yes, some DJ’s are a lot more interactive, speaking to the crowd frequently and utilizing the stage but Ryan stayed in his lane. He didn’t do too much talking. In fact he kind of let the music do all of the talking for him. He was more chill than any other DJ I have seen perform but it did indeed work. Ryan didn’t have an extravagant entrance or exit. He came out, set up his equipment, and blessed us with his sounds. What I really liked about his set was that it was extremely versatile. On the contrary to a lot of other DJ’s I’ve seen, he didn’t have an established set of songs he used for every show. You could tell his set was manipulated for the city of Atlanta and that was extremely effective. He blended his own chill sounds and trap sounds of Atlanta perfectly. There is no doubt that he was the perfect opener for Tinashe.

Tinashe
All I could really say about her was “damn”. Her set was like witnessing a fantasy. I’m not saying all of this because she is extremely attractive, but the format of her concert was executed beyond belief. Her mix of dancing and singing was on point. She moved the entire time with her 4 dancers without her vocals ever taking a hit; this girl can really sing. There were no background vocals or tracks being played over her voice, making every song extremely raw. Between changing outfits, her interludes were very quick, and led into the next song to keep us going. She really took time out to talk to us as a city. Not just the general things though, she shared her personal experiences as well which is something I’ve only seen done by the iconic J. Cole when he came to Atlanta last summer. I guess I was so impressed because you can’t tell how talented she really is until you see her in concert. As far as new school goes, she might just be the one to hold the crown for females in R&B.
Jermaine Dupri Presents The Rap Game: Miss Mulatto
Notable rapper, producer and songwriter Jermaine Dupri, presents Lifetime’s new hit series, The Rap Game. Executive produced by Dupri himself, Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere, the new show’s mission is to find the next biggest rap star from the ages of 12 to 16 years of age. The youngsters are exposed to the Atlanta hip-hop world and are taken underneath the wing of Jermaine Dupri as he places each rapper in a challenge that will prepare them for the life of a rap artist. Each week professionals such as, Usher, Bow Wow and Da Brat make appearances and encourage the rappers. Based on each individual’s performance Dupri makes the decision of which artist is ready to enter the music business, and that artist is signed by Jermaine Dupri’s label, So So Def Recordings. Dupri is no stranger to the music industry, and his resume stands alone. After mentoring artists like TLC, Da Brat, Bow Wow and Kris Kross they became successful and are still making power moves to this day! Throughout the TV series Jermaine acts like a big brother to the young artists and pushes them to be the best they can be.
The Rap Game’s first season’s winner is 16 years old, Miss Mulatto! Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia Miss Mulatto took her story of being taunted as a child because of the color of her skin to her advantage and began writing about her experiences. Eventually her writing expanded and she began performing at birthday parties, schools and became popular in ATL with her dad by her side as her manager. Out of all of the competitors, Jermaine Dupri believed Miss Mulatto was the strongest and was more prepared to be in the music industry. Miss Mulatto’s consistency, and professionalism made her stand out among the others. Mulatto has learned a lot from Jermaine, from his work ethic to his humility. But there are some words that particularly stuck with Miss Mulatto, Dupri often states, “No matter how big you feel like you are [or] you feel like you’ve made it already, you still have to work like you’re losing.” Miss Mulatto often takes this advice with her on her journey to making a name for herself not only in the “A” but internationally.
90’s Clash
Miss Mulatto is tuning her inner TLC in this unique getup. The patterns on the pants bring elements of hip-hop and high fashion. The pants are baggy but the mixture of the grey rectangles, white squares, suspenders and deep pockets creates a look of the 90’s. The orange crop top, black jacket, gold chain, black boots and bandanna are hip-hop influenced and represent Miss Mulatto. This ensemble gives her an edge and adds attitude while performing.
Sweet and Sassy
This outfit is a comfortable on-the-go look that is cute and fun. The black leather jacket says, “bad girl” while the two-bun hairstyle screams, “sweet.” Accessorized with pink lipstick and black circle shaped sunglasses Mulatto looks chic and unbothered. Her metallic sneakers complete this look and are perfect for a busy day or traveling to and from the airport.
Take it to the Streets
That denim looks great on Miss Mulatto, the thigh rips in jeans have made a comeback and will work for any color jean. Jean rips can be done in any shade and style of denim including light wash, or dark denim. The army- green crop top and Mulatto’s camouflaged patterned hoodie is a mixture of athletic wear and street wear. The crop top, being athletic and the hoodie signifying street wear. Mulatto shows off her Calvin Klein underwear, which looks strong. Usually males are known for allowing their underwear to show but in the years of 2015-16 there has significantly been a switch. Letting her pants sag and exposing the designer’s name of her underwear is bold but #bosslike. Her gold chain and shades add to this carefree boss mentality including her natural big curl. Miss Mulatto knows how to start the party, and when she walks in everyone will have to pay attention!
Look at my…Style
Dab! Miss Mulatto is never late with the biggest fashion trends as seen here. This jacket will be seen a lot this season and can be found in stores such as H&M. Her Bomber Jersey Jacket with pockets in a shade of pink is soft and makes her outfit. The simple white tee and white ripped skinny jeans is sharp, clean and pairs nicely with the bomber jersey jacket. Adidas Superstar sneakers will never go out of fashion and are the ultimate classic sneaker. The black stripes and black socks give a contrast to this light colored ensemble. With this look people will not only look at Miss Mulatto’s dab, but her outfit!
Color & Print on FLEEK
You can never go wrong with black and red, Miss Mulatto achieves this color combination with a cool animal print. The black crop top and black ripped skinny jeans sets the stage for this leopard print jacket! Whether you want to buy fur or faux fur you can rock this too! Mulatto’s sneaker game is strong as the red sneakers and red lipstick ties this ensemble together. Her makeup is simplistic consisting of; winged eyeliner and gold eyeliner. Miss Mulatto shows how a lot can go a long way and it’s no such thing as too much color or animal print. Use both extremes to your advantage and you’re sure to be on fleek like Miss Mulatto!
The young rapper, Miss Mulatto is beyond her years of rapping experience and is eager to take her career to a level she’s never been before. Her journey on Lifetime’s The Rap Game has humbled her and she’s learned a lot from her mentor, Jermaine Dupri. Mulatto will be successful not only because she’s lyrical but also has a way to connect to young kids her age, and will get people older than her to listen to what she has to say. Mulatto has something that can’t be taught and naturally embodies that ATL swag that will surely be a hit for years to come. This prodigy child is a heavy hitter and can not be slowed down with JD (Jermaine Dupri) and her city behind her. Mulatto knows the fashion trends but creates her own rules. Brace yourself because Miss Mulatto is no force to reckon with. Watch out for her upcoming single “No More Talking” for her forthcoming EP and music video, “Broken Record Player” as she reflects on her story of how she came up on the winning side.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians E News! star, Kourtney Kardashian publically endured trying times with ex boyfriend, Scott Disick as shown on her and her sisters’ hit reality television series. After years of giving Scott opportunities to turn over to a new leaf, and giving him time to leave partying, excessive drinking, and infidelity Scott failed to meet Kourtney’s expectations. In 2010, Kourtney broke up with Scott after discovering his drinking problem. Scott made efforts to quit his bad habit by seeking counsel, which brought the two back together. Scott slowly began drinking once again and entered into rehab, however he did not stay saying the experience was “scary” and made him “realize how much is at stake.” Scott was recently spotted in New York City, back at it again with his old ways of drinking and partying. The two parents Kourtney and Scott have decided to co-parent of three children, putting their differences aside. A few days after the breakup Kourtney was seen in a number of head turning ensembles, looking care free enjoying the single life. Kourtney has received lots of support from her fans and family, breaking the Internet time to time with a smile and a cute look.
Exercise & Chill !
Kourtney Kardashian is teaching us all how to chill and look fab! In a crop top and black saggy sweat pants, Kourtney looks like she is off to go exercise in a very chic way. The black combat heels make this look sporty but capture some essence of Kourtney’s girly side. The black leather jacket that is off-of-the-shoulder and black shades makes the reality star look chic and professional in an avant garde way. Her hairstyle has a middle-part and is straight, while her makeup is natural. Kourtney’s only accessory are those rocking abs, clearly she doesn’t need the exercise.
That’s So 70’s Nude Vibes
In a V-neck nude bodysuit and light-blue denim jean the Kardashian sister channels the 70’s. The jeans are boot cut with fringes at the ends and are loose fitting. The nude open toed heels bring everything together, making it an appropriate look for brunch or a lunch date. Kourtney styles her hair in the classic middle part and straight hair. Kourtney’s makeup is natural. The accessories are a silver necklace and black sunglasses.
Baewatch: Grey Day
Call the ultra-glam squad because Kourt has definitely committed to a difficult look to pull off. In an oversized grey sweatshirt and grey knee-high suede boots Kourtney Kardashian never made a sweatshirt look so right. The makeup for this look contains a dramatic smoky eye and nude lip.
The Power of the Red Lip
Kourtney goes back to the basics in a black “cami”, and light blue ripped jeans. The “cami” tucked in the jeans shows off her hot bod. With black open-toed heels as her choice of shoe and black clutch Kourt is ready for a day out in town. Hair in the straight sleek look makes this outfit look effortless, and easy on the go! Kourtney’s makeup is simple with dramatic eyes and a red lip. The rip lip accentuates her lips but provides just enough color. The red takes attention off of the black and can make any outfit go from a 4 to a 10 in minutes!
Sporty Spice Esque
It’s official now! Kourtney Kardashian is Sporty Spice, from the Spice Girls in the flesh because she pulls off the athletic apparel so well! Smiling at the haters after throwing away tradition Kourtney is successful with yet another simple but bomb look! The black bodysuit bring out the black striped detail in the red pants. Taking it up a notch in black pointed toe heels, she can do no wrong and slays for days. The small detailed jewelry such as the gold watch, gold bangles and gold necklace is just enough, providing a little “razzle dazzle”. The pulled back ponytail and black shades is relaxed which go along perfectly fine. Sporty Spice herself would surely approve!
Menswear and Such
In an all classic off-white blazer, vest and pant ensemble Kourtney makes it work in a simple three –piece suit. Wearing the V-neck by itself and blazer is a new spin on the menswear that Kourtney is sure to start. The tailored pants stop just at the ankle, and finishes strong with a black pointed toe. Her hair is pulled to the back, styled in a mid up-do. With makeup in a dramatic smoky eye and nude lip and gold earrings Kourtney captures the men’s suit look and transforms it into a strong, exclusive look that only the bold attempt.
Reality television has always portrayed Kourtney as the quite, calm and reasonable Kardashian sister. Kourtney appeared to be the sister that assists everyone with his or her problems and was often overlooked because of her easy-going personality. The post breakup with Scott Disick has brought out an unseen fire, passionate and daring Kourtney the world has not seen…EVER! Kourtney’s many looks are reflections of her new and improved style that was brought back to life. Kourtney Kardashian is very successful in ensembles because they are unorthodox; she is unafraid to mix sweat pants with heels and will wear a man’s suit, making it undeniably sexy. The 36 year old mother continues to go on in life, not allowing her breakup with Scott define her happiness and looks better than ever. Her children; Reign, Mason and Penelope have a lot to live up to in fashion because their mother is a trendsetter, a business woman, a lady, a survivor.

Get To Know TRŸBE: St. John’s University’s Fiercest African Dance Team
TRŸBE is an all female African dance group created by Iziegbe Odigie in October of 2014 at St. John’s University Queens Campus. The current group members including Iziegbe are Temtiope Epemolu, Uche Osuagwu, Alice Nkanga, Kumba Koroma, Olivia Taupygen, Waluma Fofung, Crystal Njoku, Chinna Njoku and Chiamaka Onaga. Being that this was a dance team created on a college campus, TRŸBE’s popularity rose outside the campus when they gained over 2 million views on a dance video they uploaded on Facebook. Also by working with popular Afro beats Artists such as Eddy Kenzo, Kirk Brown, MC Galaxy and Wade Coal and being recognized Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, LegunduryBeatz, BM and Teddy A. The dance team managed to gain hundreds of fans just by the way they express themselves on stage through their moves and managing to combine the African culture with different genres of music and dance. It's hard to believe that most of the members never did African dance until they got to college and the others were just Hip-Hop dancers. I got to catch up with TRŸBE as they explain how African music and dance has influenced society and how they become popular in so little time.
Oumou Fofana(TUC) : What was the inspiration behind the name TRŸBE?
TRŸBE- Since we are all African and cultural, we were just thinking that TRŸBE embodies who we are as an African dance team. To make it unique we just changed the I to an Ÿ.
Oumou Fofana(TUC) : What does African Dance mean to you guys?
TRŸBE- Dance is everything to us. We love to dance and we love our culture too, so it’s just amazing being able to bring both of them together. Some of us never really did African dance until TRYBE happened. Maybe at parties but that was all.
Iziegbe Odigie- I have been doing Hip Hop since I was 4 years old. When I came to college I was more open into learning about my culture.
Oumou Fofana(TUC) : Do you guys think that modern day African music dance is being more popular?
Alice Nkanga- I think it’s just a trend right now so everyone is just following the trend
Uche Osuagwu- There are people of all races who love Afro-beats. You have Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beats dancing to it and like what are their ties to Africa? Ciara was just in Nigeria learning and dancing to our music in the streets with some of her dancers.
Temitope Epemolu- I always hear songs like "Shake Up Ya Bum Bum" and "Duro" playing at every party i go to. You can just see how Afro Beats has become international. You can literally hear it anywhere you go. I think its great because usually a lot of people see Africa as like this poor country and all we do is like jump around to drumming. We are actually cultured and organized.
Crystal Njoku- All these African artist are starting to network in America and they're like making a better name for us. People always want to see us perform. They always want to learn some of our dance moves.
Alice Nkanga- I think it’s cool for now, It’s a trend right now. People are on it right now because they are trying to find their roots. It’s nice to be on it right now but when it goes away I don't think we should be too surprised.
Iziegbe Odigie- I actually don't think that it is a trend. I feel like there are times where African music is branched over to American culture just like Bob Marley who is from Jamaica had branched over to the American culture. I feel like its been happening so many times that now we have come in full force and we are hear to stay. In London, all you hear is Afro Beat. It has literally taken over. In America it may not be as strong yet but i do not think this is a trend that is just gonna pass.
Chinna Njoku- When people see us dance, they are like mesmerized by the movements. Even though we do not dance with drums, the music tells you when to move. Dance is such an art. You really have to be a smart person to dance. You have to comprehend moving and hearing the music. So when people see that, they are like literally mesmerized by it. It engages them so Afro Beats is not going anywhere at all.
Iziegbe Odigie- When we have workshop and we tell someone to move their right foot, it is literally like the hardest concept to them. Dance is an intelligence. Some people can not distinguish their left foot from their right foot and I am being so serious.
Waluma Fofung- The reason why Alice may say it's a trend is because before being African was really not a thing. Like we all been through it, we all been made fun of because we were African. Recently its become more embraced, being African and doing African things is more embraced by the youth. Since we are out there saying that we are African, bumping African music, doing African dances, other people are seeing it and they are like "yes that’s cool" and become more interested in it. That has just blown up and that's why it's become so worldwide. As a youth we became more comfortable in expressing it and it's making people open to receive it.
Temitope Epemolu- It has even got to the point where people are starting to claim our music and I think that is a problem.
Kumba Koroma- Going back to what she was saying about people being mesmerized by our dance moves. I feel like African dance teams like us, help push forward Afro Beats music because when people see us dancing, they're like "omg I love that, what song was that." So basically the performances help the songs become bigger than they already are.
Oumou Fofana(TUC) - You guys recently received over 2 million views on a dance video you posted online, can you tell me more about that?
Chinna Njoku- I was like, are y'all serious? Two million views in a week? My mom called me and was like “hey, so this is what you do at school?” To me it wasn't that big of a deal at first because we do way better things than this but now its like wow.
Iziegbe Odigie- We literally took that video in one take. We didn't have anyone to record so we grabbed someone outside and asked them to record it for us one time and we just posted it. We just wanted to have our name out there. It was during Thanksgiving break, a week without seeing each other so we wanted to just put something out there so we can get a couple of likes on Instagram or see how far it goes on Facebook. Literally the next few days were just crazy. Everyone was just tagging me there tagging me here saying “yo I see you Izzy.” It was nice and all but now we have to top that. So that was like motivation.
Chinna Njoku- I feel like we did top that before. They just haven't seen some of our best videos. Everything that we do just has to be on point, regardless of what video they see.
Oumou Fofana(TUC): What can we expect from TRŸBE in the future?
Iziegbe Odigie- We are trying to build a closer bond with different communities. We usually work with different African community groups in Maryland. We would like to have that in New York. Hopefully do more concerts as well, possibly even travel, go to other places and learn from other dancers.
Chinna Njoku- What I think is so cool about TRŸBE is that we are basically like some little school dance thing but got built into something way more in such little time. We get paid performances. We get paid to dance for five minutes, to have fun so like wow imagine what we can do in the near future.

America’s Most Wanted Couple: Ciara and Russell Wilson
Two years ago when singer and supermodel, Ciara was spotted with Seattle Seahawks quarterback; Russell Wilson, America couldn’t be more invested in the couple’s relationship. The couple always appeared to be happy and seemed to enjoy one another’s company. However, both celebrities’ commitment to one another was put to the test once rapper Future claimed that Ciara did not allow Future to see their son, baby Future. Future made a remark stating that unless he went through lawyers after paying child support of 15k he could not see his son. The rapper also admitted to there being disagreements between Ciara and himself on their once-potential wedding. Ciara wanted to invite celebrities and the media, while Future wanted his friends and family from the hood to attend. Ciara publicly said that Future cheated which is the cause of the splitting up of the rapper and singer. Future and Ciara still lived with one another after splitting up, which did not stop Future’s twitter fingers and sub-tweeting. He tweeted about Ciara concerning her unruly parenting. The singer seemed to turn over a new leaf, with her new man, Russell Wilson and has made a commitment from abstaining from sex until marriage. Russell said that God told him to lead Ciara, and to do so it was important for them to abstain from sex until the two are wed. Ciara admits that this commitment is hard, but her and the Seahawks quarterback are able to connect on a deeper level, mentally and spiritually. No matter how many curveballs this couple is thrown they continue to strive for respecting one another and remain calm no matter how much drama escalates. The two announced their engagement on Friday, March 11th. Russell uploaded a video to Instagram and said, “She said yes! Yeah! Making this thing happen. My baby." In response Ciara said, “Yay! I'm so excited, God is so good." Russell Wilson did not stop there with the romantic video but included a cute caption; "She said Yes!!! Since Day 1 I knew you were the one," he wrote. "No Greater feeling... #TrueLove @Ciara" The "Body Party" songstress also tweeted, "God Is Good! Grateful For You @DangRussWilson. You Are Heaven Sent. I'm Looking Forward To Spending Forever With You." Let’s take a look at some of the couple’s lovely moments!
All White, All Day
The most sought after couple was spotted in these all white day wear ensembles, created by Lanvin. Ciara’s laboratory coat, handbag and thigh-high boots look simple but are elegant. Her middle-parted sleek hairstyle is just enough along with her choice of natural makeup. She wears a soft pink lip just for color, accessorizing with studded earrings. Russell Wilson steps out with a single buttoned blazer and white tailored pants. The black button on the blazer and black shirt underneath the blazer contrasts with Russell’s white apparel. If Russell’s look wasn’t clean enough he wears all-white sneakers. Dare to wear white after Labor day? This couple just broke all of the rules!
(Members Only!) The Sleek & Sexy
This couple is spokespeople for the famous saying, “less is best” as seen in this ensemble. Russell decides to have Ciara as his best accessory in this look as he keeps it classy in an all-black piece. His beau jacket is just too spicy, as his lapel sparkles in black glitter and in silk. Russell’s black-buttoned shirt and semi-ripped black jeans makes this piece more casual. As for the songstress, Ciara never disappoints as she is in a gorgeous beaded gown that hugs her body. Her hair is pulled to the back in a sleek hairstyle. Ciara’s makeup entails a smoky eye and nude lip. The quarterback and singer turns heads despite how intricate or simple the look may be, this scores a 10 out of 10!
Purple Reign!
Killing it at The ESPYS this past fall, Russell Wilson may be known as the athlete but Ciara looks very athletic in her gown! Ciara gives leg and life in the Elie Saab gown and Jimmy Choo shoes. The pleated gown ombres from black to purple and has cuts beginning at the thigh. The belt creates definition separating her top and bottom. Ciara’s hair is pulled to the back and is styled in a middle part. Russell is in a purple suit and black collared shirt and necktie, coordinating perfectly with his lady. Crown this King and Queen because they are just too stylish!
Too Cool 4 School
These two lovebirds are just too cool for school as seen in their Ralph Lauren outfits. The denim on denim is working for Seahawks quarter back, Russell Wilson. He looks smooth in a blue jacket, plaid scarf, blue cardigan and blue jeans. The brown boots brighten this outfit as well as the plaid scarf, not to mention the all-black shades Wilson has on in doors! The “1, 2, Step” singer looks as if she has invented the denim on denim look in the long-sleeved denim shirt and skirt. Ciara’s boots are pointed toe, forest green tie-ups that have a bit of a heel. Her hair steals the spotlight, as it is styled, highlighted and straightened in the colors of blonde, brown and black. Her makeup is natural. If the couple were to wear this to school they would be seriously hated on!
“Goin’ Back to Black”
In a Ricardo Tisci Spring 2016 collection Ciara works a bra less, sheer lace vest top and lace camisole. Ciara looks #unbothered to attend the Givenchy fashion show at Paris Fashion Week. The long satin blazer, loose pleated pant and pointed toe heels complete this look. Ciara’s hair is styled in a French braid and makeup in a natural look, with soft pink lips. Russell Wilson turned heads as well in a long black blazer, black top and slim-fit trousers. Designer Ricardo Tisci and Ciara are very close and have known one another for years. The singer and her now-fiancé were seated on the front row at the fashion show.
Classiness is Always Correct
The couple looks White House ready as they attended a dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe. All eyes were on Ciara as she wore a gold rousched halter-top gown. Ciara’s gold gown spoke for itself as she chose to style her hair in a straight look and wear natural makeup. Wilson wore a black tux without a vest and a black bow tie. Classiness never grows old!
It seems as if this couple was made for one another as they have experienced a number of challenging negatives concerning, Ciara’s ex-fiancé Future. Russell Wilson seems to remain cool and collected no matter what is said about the songstress and NFL star’s relationship. Wilson treats baby Future as if he is his own son and supports his fiancé Ciara through thick and thin. Congratulations to Ciara and her bae, Russell Wilson, we are rooting for you!
Hip-hop is one of the most popular music genres of our time. Dylan Tran is changing the game with his unique sound. The Lone Wolf has always had a knack for beats and music programs from a young age. He began with his first mixtape at age 15 and from there he established his Soundcloud, which has a multitude of his works which he produced and edited on his own. This includes his new album Cocaine Tears and a few songs from his unreleased album My Flaws. Read the interview below:
KH: Where are you from? What made you come to Atlanta?
DT: I’m from Islip, New York. Like Long Island. After my parents had divorced, we came here when I was in fifth grade.
KH: How did you get into music and producing?
DT: My parents wouldn’t buy me games or anything. They wanted me to do something where I was learning, and I just started to play around with beat programs. When I was in ninth grade, my friend and I did a mixtape, and I saw how it got attention on a blog, and I decided I’m gonna start taking it seriously.
KH: What inspires your music? What would you say your sound is?
DT: I don’t really have a name for it. It’s not only hip-hop, though. Just a lot of people in my community supported me.
KH: Where does the name “Lone Wolf” come from?
DT: I got Lone Wolf tatted on my hand when I was younger, and it’s something I really believe in.
KH: Do you make beats for others?
DT: No, I make beats for myself mostly, and if I know an artist that I’m cool with, I’ll let them use my beat, or I’ll make one for them.
KH: Do you perform at shows?
DT: Yeah when I went to New York for the Sony music press conference I had to perform there and California and Arizona. I’ve done some events in Atlanta, and I have a few shows coming up. On the stage I’m different than when I'm like in a social setting, I’m shy.
KH: Where do you plan to go with your music?
DT: I’m just going with the flow right now. I wouldn’t mind making beats for other artist and being mostly a producer, but I’m just focusing on myself right now.
KH: Why did you name your album “Cocaine Tears”?
DT: At one point I was selling coke, and I really didn’t want to.
KH: Who would you say your favorite artist is or one that inspired you?
DT: All kinds but Isaiah Rashad definitely.
KH: Do you have any other musical talents?
DT: On some of my tracks, I’ll do like minor vocals, and I play the bass.
KH: What do the two X’s tattooed under your left mean?
DT: They represent my flaws like two times I really messed up. My new album will be named My Flaws.
KH: What has been your biggest accomplishment in the pass year?
DT: To be comfortable like financially and my daughter is okay.
Legendary record executive and current CEO of Epic Records, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, was in Atlanta on Thursday, February 25th, for the "Sing To Me" official book signing; hosted by the Morehouse College Department of Music, along with Loud N Klear Entertainment and Twelve Music Group. The event was held at the school’s Ray Charles Performing Arts Center and is a part of Reid’s robust book tour. Reid’s new book Sing To Me, which was released in early February, chronicles his time in the music industry while describing his experiences over the last 25 years with some of the most celebrated artists. Students from the Atlanta University Center’s Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University were allowed to attend for free in addition to the general public.
Reid is a former member of the band The Deele, where he was the drummer for the band. He also co-founded LaFace Records with former band member Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, which was based in Atlanta. LaFace is responsible for the careers of artist such as Goodie Mob, Outkast, Usher, Pink, and Toni Braxton. He later became the CEO of Arista Records and then CEO of Island Def Jam Group, before eventually becoming the CEO of Epic Records.
Local radio station Streetz 94.5 sponsored an Official Kick-Off Jam, which preceded the event in the lobby of the center. Inside the auditorium, attendees were able to enjoy musical performances by singers and a live band who performed a medley of hits associated with Reid's career in the music industry. After participating in a discussion of topics related to the book and his career, Reid was presented with a Morehouse cap and sweatshirt; which he accepted while jokingly expressed that he had expected to receive an honorary degree instead of the Morehouse paraphernalia.
During the discussion portion of the program, hosted by Anthony Kalel of Loud N Klear Entertainment, Reid described the significance of Atlanta in music and referred to the city as the "bloodline of music." According to Reid, Atlanta is about originality and greatness; in previous interviews, he has referred to Atlanta as “the gift that keeps on giving.” However, he also spoke about the importance of education, a message especially fitting since this discussion was taking place on a college campus. Reid expressed that an education was a prerequisite for a person to be around him; only those who possessed exceptional musical talent were exempt from the requirement of having a proper education. He also spoke of the decline of “classic albums” in the music industry and how artist no longer focuses on producing great albums. He cited Kanye West as an artist who consistently produces amazing albums and said that Kayne’s first six albums were all “classic albums.”
Reid was supported in the crowd by other members of Epic Records and along with his sons, Aaron Reid and Antonio Reid Jr, both of which had a hand in putting this event together. Record producer Jermaine Dupri and Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall were also present. Councilman Hall is a known supporter of art, music, and culture; often encouraging a partnership between the arts and government to improve the city. This was also a special day for Christopher Hicks, who was recently appointed as the new Director of the Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment. Speaking at this event and representing the Office of Entertainment was the task of his first day on the job.

Celebration of Women’s History Month Most Influential Women
Word to Beyonce, who run the world? It is Women’s History Month and we are celebrating women's contributions to history, culture and society. This month also corresponds with International Women Day which occurred on March 8, a general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements. Feminism is all about empowering and celebrating women so we want to dedicate this piece to all women who have huge impacts on the feminist movement. Below are five women who we think give us a real definition of what feminism is.
Lena Dunham
Creator and writer of the HBO show “Girls”, Lena Dunham has been very direct on feminism and how there is nothing wrong with owning up to being a feminist. In an interview with Metro U.K., Dunham said, “Women saying ‘I’m not a feminist’ is my greatest pet peeve. Do you believe that women should be paid the same for doing the same jobs? Do you believe that women should be allowed to leave the house? Do you think that women and men both deserve equal rights? Great, then you’re a feminist. People think there is something taboo about speaking up for feminism.”
Beyoncé
This “bootylicious” superstar never seems to disappoint when she brings the feminist movement to pop culture. Beyoncé defines the word feminist in her single “Flawless.” She samples author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED talk “We Should All Be Feminists,” which concludes with the quote "Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes." She has since performed proudly in front of the word 'FEMINIST' on stage and also wrote an essay about Gender Equality being a “Myth" for The Shriver Report.
“Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.”
Emma Watson
This actress gave a very motivational speech on the topic of feminism a few years ago and resonated with people around the world. She was named the “Feminist Celebrity of 2014” in an online poll that was conducted on Cosmopolitan. Emma Watson also made a great connection between feminism and romance in an interview she had with Vogue.
“I’m a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love and it being more important and special than anything and everything else. I would love to not date someone in the same industry as me. Otherwise it becomes what it means to everyone else.”
Oprah Winfrey
This talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist has built an empire of her own to help women grow, develop and drive. "I never did consider or call myself a feminist, but I don't think you can really be a woman in this world and not be." She has since developed the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and was awarded the Presidential Medal. That right there is the definition of girl power.
Hillary Clinton
This former First Lady is the only First Lady to have been a presidential nominee. Hillary Clinton was also the first-ever female Senator from New York and the U.S. Secretary of State. When Clinton announced that she was running for president, she had her first speech at the Women in the World Summit in New York City. This was an annual feminist shindig that is all for improving women's fortunes around the world. This choice of the location in itself sends a strong signal on how much of a feminist Clinton really is. In her speech she said, "When women are held back, our country is held back. When women get ahead, everyone gets ahead," she declared. Clinton is currently one of the top candidates in this 2016 election. She could be our first female president.
The Allen “A.I.” Iverson Takeover: The Answer to the Game and to Fashion
The Young Game Changer
The legendary Allen “A.I.” Iverson, also known as “The Answer” story started as humble beginnings and is now known as one of the game’s greatest competitors. Allen Ezail Iverson, was born June 7th of 1975 in Hampton, Virginia to Ann Iverson. Growing up in an impoverished home his mother, Ann Iverson ensured all of Allen’s needs were met in spite of his absentee father, Allen Broughton. Iverson played football and basketball throughout his years of early education, and he became the athletic headline for Bethel High School and AAU. At Bethel High School Allen started as quarterback for the football team, rotating positions of running back, kick returner, and defensive back. In the winter, Allen Iverson started as point guard for Bethel High School’s basketball team. During Iverson’s junior year he lead the football and basketball teams to the Virginia State Championships, and was crowned The Associated Press High School Player of the Year in both sports.
When Trouble Arises
February 14th of 1993 Allen Iverson and a few of his friends were accused of being involved in an altercation with patrons at a bowling alley in Hampton, Virginia. Iverson was very well known throughout the state of Virginia and captured the attention of college recruiters nationally due to his many achievements. However, some were jealous of Allen Iverson and his gift to play the game of football and basketball. Allegedly, Allen and his friends were noisy and were asked to settle down numerous times. Another friend group that was bowling began a shouting fest with Iverson’s group of friends. Soon a fight broke out between Iverson’s friends who were African American and the opposing friend group who were Caucasian. Allen Iverson allegedly struck a woman in the head with a chair. As a result, he and three of his friends of color were the only individuals arrested. At the tender age of 17 years, Iverson was convicted as an adult of the felony charge of maiming by mob, a Virginia statue created to combat lynching. Allen Iverson pleaded innocent stating, “For me to be in a bowling alley where everybody in the whole place know who I am and be crackin’ people upside the head with chairs and think nothin’ gonna happen? That’s crazy! And what kind of man would I be to hit a girl in the head with a damn chair? I rather have ‘em say I hit a man with a chair, not a damn woman.” Allen Iverson was found guilty, and appointed a 15-year prison sentence, with 10 years suspended. Nevertheless, Allen’s family, friends, Bethel High School students and faculty, and people throughout the state of Virginia stood by Iverson and protested against the charges appointed to Allen and his friends. Many argued that this was a battle race and was charged unfairly, and to slow down Allen Iverson’s undeniable bright future. Little did the world know Iverson’s story was not over! After spending four months at Newport News City Farm, a correctional facility in Newport News Allen Iverson was shown mercy by Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder, and the Virginia Court of Appeals. These powerful forces overturned Allen Iverson’s conviction for insufficient evidence. A situation that was meant for evil, Iverson looked at it as a blessing and an opportunity to gain strength, that can now be added to his ongoing success story. According to Allen Iverson, “I had to use the whole jail situation as something positive. Going to jail, someone sees something weak in you, they’ll exploit it. I never showed any weakness. I just kept going strong until I came out.” Allen Iverson’s only obligation was to complete his senior year of high school at Richard Milburn High School, a school for students “at risk” instead of contributing to the athletic department at Bethel High School. The three years of Iverson’s high school career was proof enough that he was someone special, and was no one to reckon with on the field and on the court. Head Coach, John Thompson of Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team offered Allen Iverson a full scholarship to be a part of the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team.
Iverson, a Georgetown Hoya!
After just one season at Georgetown University (1994-95) the incomparable Allen Iverson was awarded the Big East Rookie of the Year award and named to the All Rookie Tournament First Team. This year was amazing for Iverson as he led the Hoyas to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament. The Hoyas did not take home the victory that year, losing to North Carolina. In year two at Georgetown, which would be Iverson’s final season as a Hoya (1995-96) Iverson led the team to a Big East Championship and to the Elite 8 round of the NCAA tournament, losing to Massachusetts. Allen Iverson finished his college career as the Hoyas’ all-time leader averaging 22.9 points per game, and named as a First Team All American. Following his sophomore year Iverson entered the NBA draft, being the first player to leave Georgetown University early for the NBA, under the direction of Coach Thompson.
The NBA Meets Allen Iverson
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 1996-97):
In 1996, Iverson was selected first by the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA draft. Enrolled at 6ft 0 inches tall Iverson was listed as the shortest first overall pick ever, in a league with a majority of significantly tall players. The 76ers recently finished a season at 18-64, prior to Iverson’s arrival. He assisted the 76ers in receiving a record of 22-60 (1996-97). One of Allen Iverson’s unforgettable highlights of his career is the blowout against the Chicago Bulls. In this blowout, Iverson scored 37 points and crossed over the great, Michael Jordan! Breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s rookie record, Allen Iverson played five games straight scoring at least 50 points, surpassing the original record of Wilt Chamberlain of 40 points in three-straight games. Iverson and the 76ers continued to have a great season, improving nine games to finish 31-51. Allen Iverson was named the NBA Rookie of the Year, averaging 23.5 points per game, 7.5 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game.
The Game After the Lockout (Season 1998-99):
After the NBA lockout (1998-1999) Iverson became the leader in the NBA, averaging 26.8 points. He was also named to his first All NBA team. The 76ers finished their season 28-22, and Iverson was on his way to his first playoff game! He was a starter for all ten playoff games and averaged 28.5 points per game. Throughout, the playoffs Iverson experienced numerous injuries, but did not allow this to stop his performance in the game and lead the Sixers to the number three-seeded Orlando Magic in four games. The 76ers did not make it to the NBA Championship and lost to the Indiana Pacers and in six games Allen Iverson and his squad lost in the second round. Before the season could end Iverson signed a six-year $70 million contract. The 76ers were continually led by Allen Iverson the next season and finished 49-33, automatically entering the playoffs. The Sixers earned the fifth seed, which was one spot higher, than the previous year’s seed. During the playoffs, Iverson averaged 26.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. That season, in the opening round the 76ers passed the Charlotte Hornets, but was eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round. By the conclusion of the season for the first time ever Iverson was selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team, little did Allen Iverson know he would be selected eleven times consecutively. He also became the only player other than Shaquille O’Neal to receive a MVP vote in 1999. During this time, 76ers head coach Larry Brown, did not always see eye to eye with Allen Iverson and the 76ers tried to trade Iverson because of this. Allen Iverson was involved in a trade with the Detroit Pistons before Matt Geiger, who was included in the deal cancelled it due to his $5 million trade kicker. All in all, Larry Brown and Allen Iverson made effort to come together and take the 76ers to the NBA championship.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2000-01):
In the 2000-2001 NBA Season, Iverson led his team to an all time high record 10-0 start to the season. He was named starter at the 2001 NBA All-Star Game, and won the MVP. That year, the Sixers had a 56-26 record and became best in the Eastern Conference. At this time Allen Iverson won his second NBA scoring title for averaging 31.1 points. He won the NBA title steals, making 2.5 steals per game, and was named NBA Most Valuable Player. Allen Iverson shocked people because of his consistency on the court and his ability to continually carry a team on his back at just 6 feet and 165 pounds. He was the shortest and lightest player to win the MVP award. Collecting 93 first place votes out of 124, he was also named to the All NBA First team for his accomplishments. During the playoffs, Iverson and the 76ers faced one of their hardest competitors, the Indiana Pacers. The Sixers beat the Pacers and advanced to the 2001 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers and the dynamic duo Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Since 1983, the 76ers was on their way to the finals. In the first game of the 2001 NBA Finals, Iverson reached a playoff high of 48 points and beat the Lakers 107-101, being the Lakers first playoff loss of that year. Allen Iverson was a showstopper, and few will forget how he historically stepped over Tyronn Lue after making a game shifting shot. Iverson scored 23, 35, 37, in games 2-5. Sadly, the 76ers did not take the NBA Championship trophy for the 2000-01 season.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2001-02):
The 76ers hoped to take the Championship this year but were slowed down by ongoing injuries, making a 43-39 record, entering the playoffs by the skin of their teeth. The hopeful squad only played 60 games in the 2001-02 season but that did not affect Iverson’s performance quality. He averaged 31.4 points per game, his second scoring title. After losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs 3-2 Coach Brown complained about Allen Iverson missing team practices. Iverson’s famous response to this situation was, “I mean listen, we talking about practice. Not a game, not a game, not a game. We talking about practice.” Allen Iverson believed his absence of practices had no effect on his game and he brought forth his best efforts to win the 76ers a NBA championship.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2002-03):
After trading Dikembe Mutombo to the New Jersey Nets, the Sixers’ offense and defense were not as strong compared to previous years. Iverson never fails, as he scored 27.6 points per game. Even though they were offensively and defensively weak the 76ers managed to make the playoffs with a 48-34 record. They defeated the New Orleans Hornets and their leader Baron Davis, the first round of the playoffs. Allen Iverson admitted that he met his match because point guard Baron Davis was one of the hardest competitors he’s faced. The Detroit Pistons in the sixth game (second round) later defeated the Sixers. 2003, after the playoffs loss, head coach, Larry Brown ended his coaching job with the 76ers. Brown and Iverson made statements claiming prior to Larry Brown’s departure they both made peace with one another and genuinely liked each other. This was not the last time the 76er and Coach Brown worked with one another. In 2004, Iverson was the co-captain of the United States Olympic men’s basketball team and Brown coached. 2005, Iverson argued that Larry Brown was, “the best coach in the world.”
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2003-04):
Next up, as the 76ers coach was Randy Ayers. Ayers fell short to gain any kind of relationship with the Sixers and was fired after a 21-31 start to the season. The Sixers was then given an interim coach, Chris Ford. Unfortunately, Ford and Iverson did not see eye to eye. Iverson was suspended after missing practice and fined for failing to notify Ford of his absence in a game because he was sick. Iverson refused to play after feeling “insulted” when Ford had Iverson come off the bench, as Iverson was slowly recovering from his injury. In the 2003-04 seasons Allen Iverson missed 34 games, and the Sixers missed the postseason, for the first time since 1997.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2004-05):
Under the direction of new head coach, Jim O’Brien, Allen Iverson and the 76ers was on the road to a comeback! With the help of new bodies, Andre Iguodala and All-Star forward Chris Webber, Iverson won his fourth NBA scoring title with 31 points and 8 assists. He helped the 76ers get a 43-39 record during postseason. The 76ers lost to the ever so consistent Detroit Pistons and their head coach, Larry Brown. Iverson had three double-doubles, a 37-point, and a 15-assist performance in this series. Despite Jim O’Brien’s efforts in getting the 76ers back on their feet he was fired after one season. Maurice Cheeks, a former 76er took the place of O’Brien. Cheeks and Iverson had a connection, after Cheeks coached the team in the 2001 finals as an assistant.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2005-06):
Iverson made a career high of 33.0 points per game, but the Sixers did not make it to the playoffs for the second time in three years.
Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2006-07):
The 2006-07 season began at 3-0 and then turned into a 5-10 record in 15 games. Allen Iverson was traded to the Denver Nuggets and ended his 10-year career with the Philadelphia 76ers. He went down in history to score the highest with 28.1 points, and places second on the all-time points list for scoring 19,583 points. The Philadelphia 76ers did not go to the playoffs until Iverson’s return in 2012.
Denver Nuggets (Season 2006-07):
December 19th of 2006 Allen Iverson went to the Denver Nuggets being the second leading scorer with his new teammate Carmelo Anthony, who was number one. December 23rd was Iverson’s first game with the Nuggets; he scored 22 points and dished out 10 assists in a losing effort against the Sacramento Kings. Allen Iverson and the Denver Nuggets made it to the playoffs that year but lost to the San Antonio Spurs. Iverson returned to the Philadelphia 76ers March 19th of 2008 to a sell-out crowd. The Denver Nuggets lost 115-113, but jersey number three, received a standing ovation.
Detroit Pistons (Season 2008-09):
On November 3rd of 2008 Allen Iverson was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Detroit Pistons. This was a major change for Iverson, after wearing the number three for his entire NBA career he switched to number one for the Pistons. He scored about 24 points in his first five games. Due, to Allen Iverson’s ongoing back injury he did not play for the remainder of the season.
Memphis Grizzlies (Season 2009-10):
September 10th of 2009, Iverson was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, after signing a one-year contract. Iverson played three games for the Grizzlies, his stats were as followed; 12.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 3.7 apg, and 22.3 mpg. However, for “personal reasons” Allen Iverson decided to leave the team on November 7th, of 2009.
A.I. Returns Home to the Philadelphia 76ers (Season 2009-10):
Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith published a statement on his blog concerning Allen Iverson. Iverson stated, “I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level.” After making this statement, about a week later, on November 30th Allen Iverson agreed to a one-year non-guaranteed contract. December 7th, 2009 Iverson officially made his comeback in Philadelphia as a 76er and was welcomed by a standing ovation and sold-out crowd. His first game back was against the Denver Nuggets, his former team. The Sixers lost but Iverson had 11 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, a steal and no turnovers. One week later, Iverson came back full force, leading the Sixers in a win, when facing the Golden State Warriors. Shooting 70 percent from the field, ending the 12 game losing streak Iverson’s return was prominent. January 3rd of 2010, the 76ers faced the Denver Nuggets. In this game Iverson scored 17 points, made seven assists and won the game for the Sixers in a 108-105 victory. Allen Iverson’s gift never went unrecognizable and was voted as a starter for the All-Star Game, for the eleventh time. Iverson scored 23 points, shooting 56% from the field. In the midst of Iverson and the Sixers efforts, the Sixers lost 99-91 to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Allen Iverson’s daughter became ill and he left the 76ers February 22nd of 2010 to give his four-year-old daughter his full attention. Iverson did not return to play for the remainder of the 2009-10 seasons and his final NBA game was a lost against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls on February 20th of 2010.
The Breakup with the Game:
On October 30th of 2013 Allen Iverson announced his official retirement from the love of his life, basketball. During the 76ers 2013-14 season home opener, Iverson received nothing but appreciation from Philadelphia. The entire arena roared with cheers and a standing ovation. Iverson’s retirement ceremony was a moment in history, and former Georgetown coach John Thompson and Sixers legend Julius Erving attended. Allen Iverson was choked up with his words but managed to say he’ll always be a Sixer until the day he dies. He anticipated his retirement and thought it would be “tough” but he described his retirement as a “happy” day. In November 2013, the Philadelphia 76ers announced the retirement of Allen Iverson’s number 3. There was an official ceremony March 1st of 2014 on game day against the Washington Wizards. 20,000 witnesses were present on this great day including Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and former team president Pat Croce.
When the NBA Seeks A.I. for Fashion Advice
Allen Iverson entered the NBA during the 90s, which was a pivotal time for hip-hop because it became popular among all generations. Hip-hop not only brought unique beats and raw lyrics but fashion came along with this specific genre. Hip-hop artists wore baggy jeans; over-sized shirts and sports inspired clothing. Iverson expressed himself through this Hip-hop movement. He adapted the 90s hip-hop style and made it his own and was often spotted in straight-back braids, gold chains and snapbacks. On his way to a game, A.I. wore 90s hip-hop clothing which was later referred as the “A.I. rule.”
When Basketball Met Hip-Hop
After taking his straight-backs out, Iverson could be seen in a freshly picked Afro. Iverson often paired his jerseys with jewelry as seen in this photo. His extravagant chain, watch, bracelet and diamond earrings are examples of the hip-hop culture clashing with basketball. Many people of this era mixed athletics with things such as the Afro and jewelry because that is what hip-hop artists wore in music videos and appearances. A.I. goes with the classic look, allowing his jersey to stand for itself. The jewelry adds to this look by personalizing it. His tattoos create a story, signifying who the real Allen Iverson is. The Afro, jersey, jewelry and tattoos are all apart of him. This was not a costume for him, but this is how he combined a sport he loves with a world he grew to know.
A Look Serving Many Functions
Allen Iverson’s look was versatile and no matter how many people tried to duplicate his swag no one could achieve this hip-hop persona like him. His hair could be seen in an Afro, straight-back braids, a fade, or even twists! The white t-shirt is a canvas and was used in multiple styles in the 90s. One could personalize their look by getting it airbrushed or leaving it like it was. Iverson decides to make a statement sponsored by his clothing company. The silver cross around his neck and diamond earrings could be easily understood that he has an abundance of money, just as many hip-hop artists exclaim in their lyrics. The sweatband, an athletic piece of clothing gives color to A.I.’s outfit. The white t-shirt and sweatband have many functions, athletic performance being one and fashion sense being another.
The A.I. Braids
The iconic A.I. braids were a hairstyle that was sought out during Allen Iverson’s reign. Whether his hair was simply braided straight back, in zig-zags or swirls Iverson’s braids came second to none. The baggy sweat suit was a laid back look for people in the 90s. This look wasn’t meant to really impress but was meant to look stylish without trying hard. The white sweatband brings out the white in the dark colored sweat suit Iverson is wearing. He accessorizes with his bling, bling!
“I Got My Fur on Feelin’ Like Jerome”
Along with baggy jeans, gold chains, and athletic apparel, oversized coats and jackets were very popular in Iverson’s time. He was just the first to bring it to the NBA. The royal blue coat has a beautiful fur and is bold just like its owner. Allen Iverson perfectly couples this fur coat with a blue and green snapback. The white t-shirt adds a bit of a contrast just as his durag underneath his hat. Durags were created to protect the hairstyle, however many rappers and athletes publically wore their durags as a part of their wardrobe. Once Allen Iverson was seen in baggy coats basketball players like Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony, did the same.
“Snapbacks and Tattoos”
Iverson is very smart and continued to brand himself throughout his career. His hip-hop look made opportunities for him and made him more marketable. Iverson had an athletic clothing line consisting of his famous Iverson sneakers, shirts and bottoms. In this outfit he is representing his brand by wearing Iverson sneakers. A.I. had a way of making anything he wore look cool, that almost everyone had to have Iverson’s clothing. People respected his game so much that they wanted to be like him. The baggy white basketball shorts, and red V-neck shirt, are all articles of athletic clothing. The snapback could often be seen pulled towards the front, to either side, or towards the back. Iverson did it all, and his look could not be put in a box. His white snapback is the main accessory here so he tones down the jewelry, only using a smaller silver chain, watch, earrings, and bracelet. This is a look basketball players wore because of the basketball shorts, basketball sneakers, and athletic top. They could look hip and be ready to play ball at any moment.
“So Fresh & So Clean”
A collared shirt, snapback, a chain, and sunglasses? Iverson only dressed like this when he wanted to be at the top of his dressing game. Underneath his white collared shirt Iverson has on a white undershirt, also known as a tank top, or the wife beater. The white undershirt became a piece of clothing that was worn by itself or as its original purpose, an undershirt. Allen Iverson’s look here is simple and clean. The black shades and jewelry adds his personality to the look. We think it’s safe to say A.I. is “so fresh and so clean!”
Philadelphia 76ers Much?
Allen Iverson never had an outfit that did not color coordinate! The blue jeans, baggy of course were a hit. The baggy bottoms crossed over to not only jeans but also all types of pants. The white shirt decorated in stars and numbers, white and blue snapback, and red and blue sneakers all follow the same theme that scream patriotic. Iverson always shows pride of the 76ers, by wearing their colors, red, white and blue. He never failed to not obtain his reputation of dressing the best.
The Basketball Sleeve
Among other things like Iverson’s swag on the court and his unique swiftness in and out of the paint Allen Iverson had a way to captivate the crowd and his fan base. He began using sleeves during the 2000-01 season as his right elbow recovered from bursitis, an inflammation of one or more small sacs filled with synovial fluid. Players such as Carmelo Anthony and Kobe Bryant adapted this look, as well as Allen Iverson’s fans. Iverson wore the sleeve after the injury healed; some believed it improved his shooting.
“Im Ballin,’ Iverson on You”
On October 17th of 2005, then-commissioner of the NBA David Stern announced a league-wide dress code. NBA players could no longer wear baggy jeans, fitted baseball caps, XXXL white T-shirts, timberland boots and oversized necklaces (not even religious pendants). Many players were upset because they were no longer able to express themselves through the “A.I. fashion” they grew to learn and love. Some thought this was racist towards black basketball players and shade towards the hip-hop community. This dress code was not an option and was in full effect. All NBA and NBA(Development League) players were to follow this dress code. Business casual was worn on the way to games and after games because players conduct interviews, and go to promotional appearances. If a player violated this rule they were fined. Before the 90s business casual was worn and there was no concern of the players’ attire. But the 90s was an era of hip-hop influenced culture that changed the business look completely. In spite of the controversy Allen Iverson respectively followed the rules by taking his own spin on things. In a charcoal colored suit, and silver collared shirt, Iverson accessorizes with a silver hat and silver chain. A chain is present, but is smaller than his usual large chains. He also has on diamond earrings and a white durag underneath his hat. Allen Iverson made his own rules, and did not allow anyone to tell him “no”.
The Answer
Allen Iverson is a man far more than his athletic capabilities. He’s made mistakes but is not chained nor defined to his faults. Allen Iverson is a likeable guy who had fun and never took anything far more serious than his family and his game. He obtains something peculiar that still attracts fans all across the globe, especially Philadelphia! The city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has a greater appreciation for Iverson after his great efforts in assisting the 76ers for many years. Ranking 46th in the NBA of all time Allen Iverson will never be forgotten. He not only played the game but also allowed the game to become a part of him. We will never forget those mind blowing moments when Iverson did a crossover on Michael Jordan, dunked on Kobe Bryant, or stepped over Tyrone Lue. He created an atmosphere that one couldn’t help but respect and admire his athleticism, which can’t be imitated. Every team Iverson went to he was a major contributing factor and created historical moments on the court. Allen “A.I.” Iverson, also known as The Answer was indeed the answer, the answer to the game, and the answer to everyone’s fashion issues in the 90s and early 2000s. He is a legend, a success story, that can inspire anyone to not give up on the love of their life, whether it’s a million dollar idea or a basketball, just grind until you no longer have to introduce yourself.

Like Father Like Son: Ice Cube & O’Shea Jackson Jr.
2015 was a great year for rapper, actor, and the director Ice Cube and his rising son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. The film, “Straight Outta Compton” was released and nominated for an Academy Award for best Original Screenplay. “Straight Outta Compton” was about the groundbreaking rap group, N.W.A. getting its start in Southern Los Angeles. In 1988, the group took the sound of pop and hip-hop and created a revolution that not only took South L.A. by storm but also the nation. The group’s first album was entitled, “Straight Outta Compton.” It painted a picture of the rough streets of Compton for the listeners, providing nothing but truth! With the help of manager Jerry Heller, group members Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Easy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren the rapping group pushed their way to the top of the music industry, leaving a mark in history. O’Shea doesn’t only play the part his father Ice Cube, but we’ve noticed other similarities between the father and son duo, including their fashion sense!
The Tux Twins (Triple T)
The father and son duo look so happy as they are #twinning on the red carpet. Both are wearing a black tuxedo, and Ice Cube is wearing a black vest but O’Shea is not. Ice Cube goes the more traditional route in a double-buttoned jacket, white collared shirt, and black tie. O’Shea Jr. is wearing a single-buttoned jacket, a white shirt without a collar, and short lapel. His lapel is long and his pants have a silk lining. Besides the twins looking alike, they both have the same styled beards and mustaches realize that?
Old School Meets New School Hip-Hop
O’Shea Jackson (Ice Cube) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. both wear the color black often and share the same mannerisms. O’Shea Jr. makes a lot of hand gestures just like his father Ice Cube. In this photograph both actors have at least one hand on their mid-section. O’Shea Jr. has on a black t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and white Jordans. O’Shea accessorizes with a gold chain, and numerous gold rings. Ice Cube brings old school hip-hop to his look. Instead of wearing Jordans and skinny jeans he wears plain black low top sneakers, black boot cut jeans, and a long sleeved black collared shirt. Compared to his son O’Shea Jr. Ice Cube chose to accessorize with a black Raiders snapback and black shades. The color black is versatile because there are so many options that one could choose to wear, it’s the individual pieces chosen that make the outfit.
Snapbacks with a Side of… Mean Mug?
The father and son do not look so happy, as they are both mean mugging in black on black. Ice Cube has on a long sleeved black collared shirt, boot cut jeans, and low top black sneakers. Ice Cube is wearing his go-to accessories, black shades and black snapback. O’Shea Jr. is wearing a black t-shirt, black loose fitting jeans, black low tops, and a black snapback hat. Also, O’Shea never leaves his gold chains out of the equation, as he is seen in two gold chains.
Ice Cube and O’Shea Jackson Jr. favor so much not only because they are father and son, and dress alike time to time, but because O’Shae Jackson Jr. is truly his father’s son. Along with the movie that O’Shae Jr. starred in, portraying his father, O’Shae Jr. has picked up so many of Ice Cube’s gestures. For instance, his hands and facial expressions will leave anyone thinking that they both are upset! What an honor it must’ve been for O’Shea Jackson Jr. to play a role, after his father, and how proud Ice Cube must be. What differentiates the father and son duo is that Ice Cube represents his traditional way of dressing with loose fitting clothes, which are very simple. On the other hand, O’Shae Jr. wears modern clothes, such as skinny jeans, and short sleeves. Each individual brings something different from their era, and the world couldn’t get enough of the Jackson boys!

The larger than life “Mob Wives” reality TV star, Angela Raiola, also known as “Big Ang,” has lost her battle to throat and brain cancer, 3:01am on February 18th at the age of 55. Just a few days before her passing her interview with Dr. Oz aired on “The Dr. Oz Show.” Throughout the conversation with Dr. Oz, Angela described her journey with these words, “It’s shocking what happened. First I thought I was cancer free and I was going to have a big celebration, and have a party. And then a month later I was stage four.” Angela Raiola passed peacefully surrounded by loving family and friends.”
“Big Ang” starred in “Mob Wives” since the VH1 hit series began in 2011. This television series showcased Staten Island women whose men are allegedly connected to ‘the mob’. Angela was the niece of Salvatore “Sally Dogs” Lombardi, the captain of the Genovese crime family. She valued popularity with ‘the mob’ and was known as a ‘mob moll.’ Angela was always the center of attention because of her energetic personality and her fearless mentality. Fans loved her raspy voice and plastic surgery fetish. Viewers couldn’t get enough of “Big Ang” which resulted in a VH1 spin off show entitled, “Big Ang.” This show gave fans an inside peek of Angela’s Drunken Monkey Bar as well as Big Ang’s Secrets Beauty Salon, which are both located in Staten Island. From this show, Angela received another spinoff show called, “Miami Monkey.” “Miami Monkey” was about Angela opening another bar but in a different location. Angela and her husband, Neil Murphy made an appearance on VH1’s “Couples Therapy.” On the show they shared their experiences throughout their then-six-year marriage. It is no secret that the camera loved “Big Ang” it was something special Angela had that could captivate an audience. In spite of her sickness, she strived to remain happy and enjoy life. She taught this world about the importance of family and friends, and expressing oneself. Lets take a walk down memory lane to look at what we can learn about her unique style.
Pick a Color… Any Color
“Big Ang” was a lover of color. Whether it was a bold lip, or bold handbag “Big Ang” ensured she did not step out of the house without a pop of color. In this look “Big Ang” has cute black leather set, consisting of pants and a jacket. She brings in a little color with a red lip, red bag, and red nail polish.
These Chanel Bags is a Bad Habit
Can’t forget about the Chanel bags! “These Chanel bags is a bad habit”, as Nicki Minaj would say, but I’m sure “Big Ang” would beg to differ. “Big Ang” could always be spotted in a large sized Chanel bag that was not as big as her personality. As if her fur jacket wasn’t a big enough statement “Big Ang” rocks a black patton leather Chanel bag to go along with her tan and brown ensemble.
Killer Heels
In a black turtle neck sweater dress, a Chanel bracelet, and red designer clutch “Big Ang” brings the party to a classy outfit. Her tan platform heels brighten this black sweater dress. These heels are designed with holes throughout the toe and strap around the ankle. “Big Ang” always wore heels that no one could pull off but her!
Her Hair was Her Halo!
Angela wore a variety of hairstyles, some including black long hair, black medium or short hair, blond short hair, and other countless memorable hairstyles. However, “Big Ang” often wore black medium length hair, in this hairstyle she chose to highlight her hair with blonde. Angela is wearing a cream fringed jacket and cream shorts. The incorporation of fringe makes this ensemble fun, while the black high-heeled boots dresses this ensemble up.
“Big Ang” was a lover of life as well as a lover of people. Her passion for family and friends was so genuine that her love could not be measured. Angela believed that one should appreciate life to the fullest and do what makes them happy. Angela “Big Ang” Raiola is missed and could never be duplicated or replaced. Thanks for all of the laughs “Big Ang!”

I was grateful to be able to sit down with a very talented artist. This Queens, NY based artist goes by the name of HallaModa (25), is a fashion designer, muralist, and graphic designer. What makes him so great is the way he uses the gift he was given, to perceive his emotions, his daily life and create beautiful imagery. Moda first started off painting jackets, using an assortment of hardware and eventually he learned to cut and sew clothing as well. He began creating art around the age of 8 first beginning with drawing up comics through the inspiration of Marvel as well as other cartoons. “I started drawing around as young as 8, I drew “Dragon Ball Z” characters and “Pokémon” cards where I would trade them in school with my friends, you know basically what kids were into when they were young but never was it anything formal.” Moda was inspired by art since he was young and since then his work has grown and improved.
Moda gives his work the name “The New Black”. “I chose that name because it’s very popular amongst the time I was born in and it’s what I’m seeing around me, you know what we use in the common phase, for example, pointing something out as interesting or popular and so in that I say that I am “The New Black. The whole reason behind or what it’s about is the generation that were in and how were just looking for direction. I feel like for me, myself and the people that I’ve come across are longing for something, whether it be knowledge or just experience is just beyond our means and so I try to bring all that together into my work using those kind of experiences, those emotions to create beautiful imagery. I feel that overall “The New Black” is a reflection of our times, the youthfulness of us all.”
Artist Moda seen with his pieces from his work “The New Black”
Moda’s talent is raw and descriptive. When he attended school it helped him to gain knowledge about the tools that he would come accustom to using when creating his work. “I went to the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) for fashion merchandising. I had transferred from a SUNY after doing two semesters at Herkimer County Community College (HCCC). I took a few painting classes that helped me learn a few techniques. School helped me to learn what kind of tools I needed to improve my work. I would say my favorite tool to use besides my brushes and varieties of paint would be the IPad , I’m lucky enough to live in the age of technology where everything is in my hand, I do graphic design as well so I can explore and do research on something to inspire a piece, or use technology to help create it.”
Moda has partnered as an apprentice and has done work with female artists known as Jocelyn and Dollie of Culture Cocoa Art-house. Moda has been a part of a series of creating murals called “Hip Hop Legacy”, his first one was created on Hollis Avenue and 198th street which he collaborated with Jam Master Jay and Jocelyn creating a mural that featured rapper Run Dmc who appeared to congratulate the artist on his work after it was finished. As of future upcoming projects, Moda will be beginning a new mural project dedicated to “A Tribe Called Quest” which will be created in Baisley, Queens, NY. . Also I have a class that I am not sure whether I am volunteering or being an instructor for kids learning to create art for murals. “I am also doing tour merchandising for “Soul Group Universe” as well as collaboration with James Baron, a designer in Queens which I am excited about so I have a lot of art events coming up in the next few weeks.” I asked Moda if he had any future goals that he has not yet accomplished and he said, “I would like to get my art out there and have my business further thrive, I would like to give back to my community of Queens, I want to invest in school art programs, anything I can do to cause immediate difference within the community.”
Artist Moda (Right side) seen with Artist Jocelyn (pink jacket), artist Dollie (olive jacket) and rapper DMC in front of “Hip Hop Legacy” mural.
Moda is not only a brilliant artist but an intriguing fashion designer as well. When I first encountered Moda he was dressed in all black wearing a heavy black leather jacket, a black shirt, black ripped jeans, a pink cap, and a gold chain. Moda explained to me, “My style has always consisted of a mixture of Goth/English Mod/Grime. I like to be comfy/relaxed yet expressive.” His presence was warming and through our conversation I discovered many aspects about art that I was not even aware of. When I looked at his clothing, it’s not like anything I have ever seen in my life. Unique isn’t even half of the word I would use to describe his work. I felt as if I was at a “Yeezy Season 4” fashion show, by the way the clothing was cut and bleached. It gave me a unique urban experience. Instead of just basic colors that you would find upon the Yeezy clothing, the material would have a very descriptive, very meaningful piece of art upon it.
Pieces of “The New Black” The shirt hanging (#56/100 Of a Limited Collection. They are released spontaneously) is an interpretation of "NO FEAR" depicted is a Japanese warrior or Onna Bugeisha. — Commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the Bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honor in times of war.
As far as Moda’s, “The New Black” he explained he is only creating one hundred of these pieces of long sleeve/short sleeve shirts because he feels that is when his masterpiece will truly be complete. In our discussion he also explained his views upon the fashion world and it reminded me of an interview Kanye West had with Jimmy Kimmel, it’s the way he goes into detail about how people use fashion to capitalize business and diminish the arts. “I don’t like that there’s a lack of substance within the art world, I feel like everything is about trends and the next trends and the way they capitalize from it. Being able to express yourself is restricted; it’s very territorial, it’s like a club you can’t get in if you don’t fit their description or unless you have certain credentials. I feel that fashion as a whole isn’t just about that, anything can be in fashion, fashion can be anything, do anything, I feel like it is just ways to capitalize off of money, I don’t really see the true passion in certain things, I see that in the everyday regular streamline of fashion. I feel like art should make you feel something. However I am not disputing all designers, there are works that show exactly what I am talking about, sad thing is it’s not enough.”
I asked Moda what inspires his art and he responded to me that it was not only the people around him but music as well. “I am part of a rap collective, shout out to my guys, “Soul Group Universe” and so music has a great impact on the work that I create especially rap music, I feel it is universal and very transitional and in that when I’m working and just listening to music the vibe is perfect, the flow is perfect I mean everything is just right. It depends what piece I’m working on is what music I’ll listen to, I listen to a lot of house, electronic, you know a variety of different works. As far as inspiration of people, I’ve been inspired by everyone I’ve grown up with, there’s no one in particular, the people I run into or I see every day are basically the people that push me to keep me going.” This is the environment that helps Moda to create his work. As far as fashion beside his art he explained to me that each piece of fashion should be treated like each piece of art you would see at a gallery. “What inspires me to make them is well, the customer, each item is one that is unique of itself, what inspires each one in particular is the point at where I’m at in life, how I’m feeling at that current moment, what I wish to know, then it’s also about my customer as well, what I want to know about them to infiltrate that into my work. I use their experience, it helps us to figure each other out, you know like they say “each one, teach one”, passing information of each other along. Maybe I want to know about your day, I want to know what you know and what you’ve learned, maybe you could teach me something and I use that knowledge to figure out exactly what I’m looking to do within my work, all experience comes through connections.”
Moda (middle) in front of “Hip Hop Legacy” Mural with rappers “Soul Group Universe”
I asked Moda, what is the best piece of advice he could give someone who wants to pursue art, maybe even as a career ? “It’s hard out here for artists but there is always someone interested in art, without art the world would be lifeless so stick to what you feel is best that expresses you and continue with that consistency, believe in your work, have passion for it and you will go far” .
Part of the Mural of “Hip Hop Legacy” on Hollis Avenue and 198th Street in Queens, NY
In our interview Moda explains the meaning behind his brand “The New Black” and how it reflects our generation, the youth and how we are looking for direction, longing for inspiration and knowledge through experience. He explains his love for art and how creating his work, his murals, his clothing is his way of not only making himself known but giving back to the community and making the world a brighter more artistic place to live in. One important thing I took from our interview is that we are all artists, whatever we are trying to pursue, our work is never truly completed. “I feel as an artist, your work is never truly finished, you just tell yourself when you’re ready to stop, you should know when to just stop, you know when I’m painting some of these pieces, I treat my art like a learning experience, I stop when I feel that I don’t need to add anything else.” Author, Junot Diaz explains that “the whole culture is telling you to hurry, while the art tells you to take your time. Always listen to the art.” True artists never rush a masterpiece, art is never truly finished work but work we tend to continue to improve and perfect.

Zoe Saldana Faces Controversy Over Her Role In The Nina Simone Biopic
Zoe Saldana has done many roles in films such as “Drumline”, “Colombiana”, and “Avatar”. She was given positive feedback for these particular roles. However, the public was not so pleased with her recent role in the Nina Simone Biopic. Nina Simone was a singer, Civil Right Activist, and journalist. She sang jazz and folk music between the 50s and 60s. Nina Simone passed in 2003, but her legacy continues to live on today. Zoe Saldana was cast to play the songstress in 2012. Along with the public, Nina Simone’s estate was not pleased with the casting. Zoe faced more controversy when the trailer for the film was released. In the trailer, Zoe’s skin is noticeably darker than her normal complexion which disturbed many fans of the legend.
Zoe responded to the harsh backlash by posting a quote by Nina Simone on her Twitter page. “I’ll tell you what freedom is to me-No fear…I mean really, no fear. #NinaSimone.” The estate responded by telling Zoe she needed to keep Simone’s name out of her mouth.
Robert Johnson, who is distributing the film, defended Zoe and stated that she delivers an exceptional tribute to Nina Simone. “She gave her heart and soul to the role and displayed her extraordinary talent,” he said.
The film is centered on Simone’s relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson and her struggle to get her career back on path as she battles with alcohol. Johnson is more focused on the quality of Zoe's performance than her skin color. Some critics believed that Viola Davis or someone “black enough” should have been cast in the role. Lisa Simone Kelly, Nina Simone’s daughter, is not upset with Zoe. She feels as though it is unfortunate that Zoe is being attacked so viciously. “It’s clear she brought her best to this project,” Kelly said. The film is set to open in theaters on April 22nd and was directed by Cynthia Mort.

Angela Simmons has lived in the public eye since childbirth and used her exposure as a springboard into her adult life. She is known to be the daughter of the former Run DMC founding member, Joseph Simmons, or, as America likes to call him Rev Run. She previously starred on her father’s reality show, “Run’s House” on MTV. Viewers fell in love with Angela Simmons’s genuine, warm, and loving personality meanwhile she began to build a following. Simmons used this opportunity to design footwear along with sister; Vanessa called “Pastries” for Run’s Athletics. These sneakers came in designs inspired by different cakes. Angela Simmons has always been creative and has made her own opportunities for her love of fashion. This love of fashion became so strong that she left the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City to become a fashion designer, writer, and businesswoman full time. In 2006, Angela had a spin off magazine, “Angela’s Rundown” featured in Word Up magazine. The go-getter mentality has sent Angela far in the entertainment industry, as she is someone who many look up to because of her outstanding work ethic and fashion sense.
Where is Angela Simmons now? Angela has a personal blog, “AngelaIAM.com” being the official website for Angela. Angela has a faux-fur line, “Foofi” named after her toy poodle. “Foofi” is made up of neon hoodies, moto vests, and coats. She recently acted in the movie, “Supermodel,” with co-star Tyson Beckford. This is a film concerning racism in the modeling industry. Ms. Angela is an executive producer and star in a documentary about the children of Hip-Hop stars. She also is the creator of “Girl Talk Takeover,” a fitness and health event for Boys and Girls Clubs of America in New York. The New Yorker’s love for fashion sets her apart because of her learned experiences from designing, modeling, and just keeping a hand on the latest trends. Let’s take a look at the fashion expert’s hottest looks.
BRIGHT BUT RIGHT
Angela’s yellow biker blazer makes this look pop! The white shirt allows the pink bra underneath to show its pink tint, matching with the pointed toe pink stilettos just right. The dark blue skinny jean makes this outfit casual with a little flare. Simmons’ necklace showcases the pink and yellow, bringing the whole piece together.
CRUELLA DE VILLE GOES STREET
White and black are classic colors that works for any occasion. For this look Angela Simmons dresses it down with an above the knee white dress that is short sleeved. The black stripe in the middle of the dress gives it character. She looks futuristic with a high sleek bun, and black sunglasses. The red lipstick and silver jewelry provides a bit of glamour, and elevates this ensemble. With black high top Converse Angela is ready to take a walk in the New York City streets.
SEXY SLATE
Contour, contour, contour, and we aren’t talking makeup! The grey, sexy three-quarter-length dress contours Angela’s body, highlighting her curves. The smooth textures throughout the dress make it look seamless. The overall structure is significant because of the stitching in the middle and on the sides. This stitching is in grey, yet it stands out because the dress is a sleek piece. The pink glittered heel is designed by Christian Louboutin and makes this outfit fun. With plenty of volume Angela’s hair, almost steals the show because of the deep body curl. Her makeup is flawless. The smoky eye, highlighted cheekbones, and nude lip are just enough to make this look a memorable one.
Washed-Out, Wipe Out!
Angela Simmon’s straight hair is simple but chic. The washed-out denim is a punk look because of the rips and tears. Wearing the denim jacket off of the shoulders, and the collared shirt halfway tucked-in screams, “Bad Girl.” It is no surprise that Ms. Angela likes color as she adds yellow in this outfit. The shade of yellow is light enough that it does not steal the denim’s spotlight. Angela’s makeup is a smoky eye and nude lip. No wonder why Yo Gotti has a crush on Angela Simmons!
Porcelain Doll !
The first thing that catches the eye is the graphic skirt chosen by Rev Run himself! The green is a base for the red, yellow, and purple flowers. The skirt is elegant as it is outlined in black. The nude bodysuit and black bra makes it look modern, including the nude pumps. Angela’s hair is in a high braided pony. The makeup consists of a smoky eye, plum matte lip and contour that are oh so quintessential! Angela Simmons looks like a porcelain doll, looking as if she made the clothing herself.
What makes Angela Simmons a success story is her consistency in the fashion and entertainment industry. Angela remains relevant by designing clothing, acting, directing, philanthropy, her gifts are endless. She does not rely on her father’s household name to reach her dreams, instead she writes her own story. Simmons finds time to giveback to the community, and keeping God and her family first. Keeping us on our toes is the way Angela rolls. Boy, we’ve got a crush on Angela Simmons!

Art Feature: Fin DAC, The Urban, Stencil Artist, Founder, and Originator of Urban Aesthetics.
London-based artist, Finbarr DAC, aka Fin DAC began drawing as a child and he attributes the cultivation of his gift to his mom giving him pencils and crayons at a young age because he was "too lazy" to do anything else. He continued drawing into his teenage years, and although he dreamt of becoming a graphic designer he decided to work instead of attending any art school, college, or receive any formal training.
"I lacked the confidence to follow art as a career."
Until eight years ago Fin worked several jobs, attended technical school and began working as a technical writer, writing plans for trains and engineers, when he realized that the only thing holding him back was himself. Working as a web developer for a digital advertising agency in London, Fin found himself surrounded by creative people that were not anymore talented than he was – what separated him from them is that he lacked the confidence to what he truly wanted to do
Realizing that like most artists, he was being too hard on himself, allowing fear to keep him from pursuing his dreams. Going through a divorce, not seeing his children, trying to pick up the pieces from a broken 10 year relationship and not being able to see his children. Fin found himself in a place like none he had ever been before, allowing him to do something he had never done before. This is where his street art began.
"The fear I once had was outweighed by my need to back into what I loved."
"I would love to say that I arrived at this place on my own, but it was forced upon me," Fin said, when I asked him how he came to such realizations about himself and his craft. "When you have nothing left, you have nothing to lose." It's profound how our battles beautify our strengths. The depth and honesty that can be felt through Fin's pieces is evident. There are deep emotions that can be seen through each subject that he paints, in the placements of the hands, their garments, and the gaze in their eyes. Fin admits that his critics sometimes scrutinize his work, claiming that he exploits women, and the young girls that he paints, but I disagree.
"I never explain my work to people because I don't see the point. I'd rather people get what they can out of it without me telling them what they should get out of it."
Fins fan base has grown so appreciated that his work is often tattooed on both men and women, and he believes that he is beautifying both the world and people's bodies. "It's fine to be fearful of something, just don't let it stop you from doing what you want. You will never know where something could have gotten you if you let fear stop you from doing it," Fin said, as he told me about his skydiving adventure last year and how it turned out to be a calming experience. He said that he thought he would freak out but it was one of the most liberating and eye-opening experiences of his entire life. What he learned from that experience is that when you are staring your fear right in the face, you realize that it was nothing, and that you were stronger all along. Fin is dedicated to defeating fear at all costs. Painting beautiful and meaningful bodies of work on the entire side structures of buildings take a lot of courage and Fin believes that artist should continually learn and practice their trade to become great, and never allow fear hinder you from making mistakes, because that is the only way to get better at it.
"Art is my meditation, its completely clearing your head, you're patient, and relaxed."
Through Fin's work, he beautifies the distinct features and characteristics of women, from one another, and that are often rejected, such as Mohawks, tattoos and cultural identities. Fins subjects tend to be of Asian and Latin decent. "I wanted to depict women in a strong way. The Asian culture was a good fit because they were not viewed in a favorable light, especially by western culture. They were seen as subservient and sexual, so I wanted to depict them oppositely." Despite Fin's turbulent relationship, personal experiences and pains, he consciously decided to pain women in an opposite light of what he felt. "Through uplifting the women in my art I was uplifting myself." He did not allow his hardships to negatively affect him, but he allowed them to make him, and his craft, better. In his depictions of young women he uses paint to preserve their untainted innocence, adolescence, outward strength. "I try to paint them in the best light.
"God is always showing you things, and pointing you in a direction that you are destined to go."
His transparency set him a part from a lot of artists these days. He is unafraid to paint it all on the canvas, so to speak. "I don’t think I am amazing at my craft at all," Fin states, "The fact of the matter is, I have no idea what I am doing; I have learned just by doing, making mistakes and learning from them." I believe that what separates the good from the best is fear, and the more fearless you are, the more powerful you are, in a really cool and strong way, no one can take away from you what you are not already courageous enough to give. "In four or five years time, if I am not doing something completely different I am really not an artist," Fin states, when expressing the evolution of learning and growth that we as artists should experience. I personally believe that this principle applies to all facets of our lives.
"We should constantly be changing, learning new things, evolving and developing."
What I learned from Fin is that you should not hide your scars from the world, because they are exactly what makes you beautiful. They make you who you are – they are what make you great. Not fitting in, and being like everyone else is what makes you, you. Fins believes that there is no middle ground, and that the balance is in your transparency. "Don't hide anything, or be afraid to be vulnerable."
Be on the lookout for Fin's upcoming projects as he plans to spend the first half of the year in his studio creating sellable pieces from his collection. In September, he will be painting at the home of the Miami Dolphins, Sun Life stadium, and then a collaboration for a living wall in Portland. He will be working on some screen prints preps and a possibly a designer handbag collaboration in Europe that is expected to be released in the fall.
