Lailah is caring and has an empathetic nature. She often takes on the role of a nurturing mother/older sister, doing her best to guide and encourage others. Her reliability and maturity have given her the reputation as a “golden girl” and she stands out as intensely devoted even among her fellow angels.
While she projects an aura of strength and confidence, she is actually highly averse to conflict, often inserting herself into arguments as a mediator. Her aversion to conflict stems from the past, as she had encouraged Lilith to steal Celestial Realm food for her lover. She views the war and Lilith’s death as her fault, and this overwhelming guilt traps her in the past. She now actively tries to end as much conflict as possible, which has led to some viewing her as self-righteous and intrusive. While her intentions are noble, it does not change the fact that she forces her way into others’ lives to, in her view, overcompensate for her past failures.
Before the Great Celestial War, Lailah was much more naïve and free-spirited. She desired more freedom, which is what led her to support Lilith’s love for a human. However, as the Great Celestial War raged on, these ideals crumbled and she became much more serious about her angelic duties.
History:
Lailah was born on January 17th in the Celestial Realm and was close friends with her fellow angel, Lilith. She viewed her angelic duties as tedious and dreamed of a life where she could make her own choices. She initially snuck to the Human World as an act of defiance towards her father, but developed a genuine interest in human culture. She continued to make secret trips, often with Lilith and Belphegor, eventually growing closer with Belphie due to their shared fascination with humans.
Her wide-eyed view of the world ultimately cost her closest friend, as she did nothing to stop Lilith from stealing food from the Celestial Realm to heal her human lover; in fact, Lailah thought it was romantic and encouraged her friend to break the boundary between angels and humans. When the Great Celestial War broke out, she initially tried to reconcile Lilith with their father, but seeing that the damage had already been done, decided to side with their father out of fear. During battle she did her best to avoid fighting, and saw Lilith get mortally wounded. She attempted to help her friend, but was held back by other angels. After Lilith’s death, Lailah decided to remake herself into a perfect, upstanding angel to atone for her past immaturity.
Her name on Devilgram is “StarryLai”.
When she visited the Human World, her favorite activity was watching musical theatre shows.

Lailah in Hebrew (לַיְלָה) and Arabic (ليلى) means “night”.
Her name comes from the Talmud, where Lailah is described as an angel of conception. She selects the newborn souls of babies from the Garden of Eden and delivers them into the wombs of mothers. Just before they are born, she strikes the baby’s upper lip, thus creating the philtrum, in order to erase all memory of creation. A maternal symbol, Lailah serves as a guardian angel throughout a person's life and at death, leads the soul into the afterlife.
The ending “lah” is feminine; thus, Lailah is the only angel with a feminine name and distinctly feminine characteristics.
In other Jewish folklore, Lailah is considered the opposite of Lilith.
