I like books, even though it now takes me a while to read-books are the best thing! 5. I like to bite things. *bites*6. I hate my family-especially my sister, because she has the most twisted view of sexuality ever7. I have the best girlfriend in the world <38. According to people i'm a genius. My sister: Jensen ackles is hot. Isn't he great? Me: Oh course, but i like Misha Collins too. Her: Yeah, but you don't find them hot or fancy them or anything, do you? I mean, You're gay so of course you don't. You just like them. Number One-I'm sorry, but just because i have a girlfriend doesn't mean i can't find men attractive. It also doesn't mean that i can't be bi-sexual or even pan-sexual. Just because i have a girlfriend does not make me automatically attracted to just females. And two-Of course i can find them attractive
I mean
Just look at

I had a dream where every person, at exactly midnight on new years following their 22nd birthday, they possessed the body of their soulmate and people ran around trying to figure out who they were so that they could find eachother, and they left notes for the body’s owner to find with their address. And there were some language gaps so people had to translate it and travel to different countries carrying the notes they were left, and it was great

I’m Sorry for saying this, but even when people try to raise awareness of Dissociative identity disorder, the media use it in their own way. They don’t care that someone is trying to get more attention directed towards this seriously mis-understood illness. Using mulpicityandme as an example,…
The titles are irrelevant.
Did you read the rest of the article? It was excellent for a tabloid.
The titles reel readers in. If people don’t know what alters are, remembering that the paper must be readable to those with a low as well as high intelligence, using simple words such as “characters” is a good head to catch attention - pretty much like your hard-hitting and aggressive sounding LISTEN UP in your title (see how that works?)
Once you read the article, it explains that the alters are far more than just characters.
Unfortunately - no one is going to print/discuss/show what we want. Everything anyone will ever do to do with spreading awareness won’t be 100% to their satisfaction.
In fact, if you have any better ideas, feel free to let us know.
Messages like this don’t help if all you’re going to say is “don’t bother spreading awareness in the media because it doesn’t help” - how else do you propose we get the word out there?
Please - feel free to start your own campaign and we will happily join. As far as I’m concerned, nothing we will ever do will make everyone happy - I’m more than willing to pass the “awareness-baton” to the next runner, because Jake may still be on board - but I am seriously fed up of this crap - doing the best you can do with the tools you have is never enough for some people is it?
-Jamie
i have to agree with Jamie.
nothing in this world is perfect and we certainly cant expect the media to be any different. they have to change some things to make people read it and so long as the main content isnt compromised then i think we can forgive a badly worded title here and there, especially when it draws in the attention of readers/watchers/listeners. sometimes it’s unfortunately necessary.
we have to start somewhere and so for the moment we have to put up with these things because otherwise the vast majority of people are never going to learn. no one will want to look at something that they dont understand or that doesnt sound interesting, so they have to consider that most people like gossip and weird sounding things - which is why we see the term “multiple personalities” in media rather than the name DID. if people dont have a clue what they’re reading from the title that’s meant to draw in attention then why would they want to carry on reading since they probably still wont understand?
until the vast majority know what DID is, i dont think we can expect things to really change. it’s sad that we have to deal with it but for now it’s the best we have. one day things may be different when it’s common knowledge that DID exists.
I understand what you’re both saying. Yes. I do. Not everything is perfect, and i don’t expect it to be. It’s just that-In MY opinion. Which you don’t have to agree with. and i’m sure the others in my system may not agree with too, there is no point in getting people to understand about D.I.D if they’re not going to believe it. As for the title “People” Would have drawn people in just as well. It was just the fact that the way they worded it made it seem like Jess is acting. I didn’t mean to offend anyone-But in my opinion there is going to be some form of publicity out there that can people to believe it as well as understand it. We just have to find it. Until then the media is okay. But i just think that-on some levels-Its almost manipulating people by calling alters “characters” because character are fictional beings. If i was someone who didnt know about the illness and was reading that paper. I wouldnt believe in it. And i think it’s going to be harder to change peoples minds once theyre made up about this disbelief. Sorry if i upset you. But that’s just my opinion. -Dem
and once again, my opinion is “did you read the article?”
we certainly weren’t pleased with the title, but in the media, it’s all about compromise. they want to gain headlines and readers, we want to spread awareness - somewhere, there is a line that both ends meet at.
none of us liked the title at all. but thats down to the editing and not the writers - the writers proof read things with us and we give a thumbs up or down - once we say ok, they do not know what the titles will say and they certainly arent up to us to decide
very much as LAM said - MPD is always used instead of DID, because unfortunately, we live in a society of morons that would rather cling to something gossipy rather than interesting - and that certainly isn’t our fault
let me just repeat that in simple terms - WE DID NOT SAY YES TO USING THE TERM “CHARACTERS” - WE DID NOT DECIDE ON THAT TERM OR HAVE ANY INPUT ON THE DECISION TO USE THAT WORD
surely - this middle-mark should be easily understood by others - we have a choice, risk a few mistakes here and there to get the word of the disorder out to millions of people, or say fuck all and stick to smaller blogs online
either way - not everyone will be happy with either decision that we or anyone else would make
we made a difficult choice - to turn down or accept media input - and as you said, your opinion is that we didnt make it “believable” enough because we had a shit title in print
i am repeating - WE HAD NO CHOICE IN THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE - WE DID NOT AGREE OR HAVE INPUT TO THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE
if you or anyone else ever decided to work with the media - youd honestly realise how difficult these “middle grounds” are to meet on with things being mostly on your end - put down too many rules and they wont work with you - dont do enough, and the paper could completely flip over your story
its a risk every time
im sure youll be very pleased to know that we will not be partaking in any more in the near future
as said - if you feel you can do a better job, please feel free - we will always support others attempting to raise genuine awareness in whatever way they can, because we accept that things may not always go 100% to plan
it’s a shame a minority of people dont have the same realisations as we do
-jamie
Yes. I did. and To be honest, Jamie. No. Im not so pleased to hear that. Im sorry if i made this seem like it was a hit at you or any of the others. It really really really wasn't. It was a hit at the media. I support you guys. So yes i am really sorry if i have offended you. And i am sorry if i offend you with what i say next. but i do not think this is worth arguing about. People are entitled to their own opinions, and i respect yours. But there's enough dispute in the D.I.D community as it is and im sorry if i caused more. There's no point in arguing over this. And again, I repeat. This was in no way an attack on you or any of the others. It was an attack on the media. And i didn't mean to offend or attack you. Dem

LISTEN UP.

They don't care that someone is trying to get more attention directed towards this seriously mis-understood illness. Using mulpicityandme as an example, which no direct meaning towards them, the Newspaper called Jake, Jamie, Eddie and Ollie "Characters." This insinuates that these are not real people. That Jess is infact acting and pretending to be them. It is not at all helping the mental health stigma-especially not about D.I.D. Im not saying it's the same for all media. But the majority of it is not at all helping people to understandd that it is a serious mental illness and should be treated as such. Its just the same as any other disease-And needs the recognition. They need to do something about it. Dem

"Good Boy."
Through Watchful eye the darkness seeps, Alerting day has once more lost it’s time, Though window, pale moonlight creeps, Where High in darkness it’s face doth shine. T he smaller hand of creature fails to stand, As sleep eludes it’s tired eyes yet it’s cries unheard across the land, As old dogs begin to grow wise. The sound of age long foe stirs it from it’s peace, yet goes ignored, for friend nor foe shall not disturb, The nighttime and it’s always given lease, Or else the world around it all shall curb, The culprit and it’s sorry mind. A lucid hoot in distance fades, the silence ringing eternal, Until when, The rose does open wider in the sun, The birds do sing with not such elusive joy, Yet fly when timid man remarks, “good boy.” ~A poem by Rose on the first day she fronted
