there were ads about it on TV, but they were kind of incomprehensible? just choppy photo slideshows with 80s elevator music playing in the background, and no voice-over. but the pictures showed a solid black can with the words “It’s A Meal” on the side in curvy white lettering.

I kind of forgot about it for a while, but then the next time I went shopping, there they were. and oh hey, they were actually cheaper than normal canned pasta! so I got a bunch of ‘em.

it seemed to be a sort of blind-bag experience? when I opened one up, it could be any number of options. sometimes it was beefaroni. maybe another time it’d be ravioli, or mac and cheese, or that horrifying chicken alfredo they make (always a disappointment).

but with some cans? you had no idea what it was. the substance inside was completely unidentifiable. is it pasta? is it alive? who knows!

but by god, whatever it was, you did know one thing: it was a meal.
