I've been thinking about this one for quite a while, but work kept me from doing it, now I got an opening and hopefully will manage to finish it this week.
I wonder if anyone picked up where their clothes came from, wish I could say I came up with them but I did not 😅
Main goal was to choose looks that would fit the characters, something that they would actually wear on the show, and at first I'd cast a pretty wide net when it came down to references, but while selecting an outfit for Ryugi an idea came to mind: pick japanese brands.
Not only it made sense to me, but it was also a great help in streamlining the options. On top of that there is the fact that since Gozyuger is quite japanese-oriented all the pieces I chose felt like natural fits for them.
There are caveats though: Sumino and Kinjiro.
I started both of them prior to my decision to focus on japanese fashion, so their looks are actually a mixture of brands.

Sumino: Miu-Miu Spring Ready to Wear 2025 + (Jacket) Junya Watanabe Fall-Winter 2022

My favorite looks would be Ryugi's, but Kinjiro's was certainly the most fun to come up with. The whole young-n-old thing gave me this idea to mix a very "elderly" look with something more "youthful". The Armani outfit is actually an entire mono-color piece with matching jacket and shoes, but I swapped these two elements for the converse and BAPE jacket to spruce him up and I really like how it turned out.
If you guys search for the real looks you might see that I customized all of them: from colors to textures, Ryugi's is the only one that is a direct translation from the real thing.
And there is Mashiro... honestly I just wanted something simple for him, mostly because his default look on the show is so intricate and the whole "godly" thing with him is a tad too pretentious 😂 so it was fun to take him on more silly and care-free direction, that and I wanted to make things easier for myself.
They are all wearing their rings by the way, I just put them in the actual ring-fingers instead of the pointers like in the show.
Doing all these Gozyuger pieces helped me a lot to understand my own drawing style, practice some textures and come up with ideas for new things. I honestly think I got this urge to draw them out of my system, although at one point I did consider drawing the Bridan and Garyudo/Kuon, but I don't see doing them anymore.
Kuon by the way got really close of making here. I actually started working on this set a good while ago, mostly sketching and selecting outfits, and the Mashiro showed up. Not only he is a very fun character but also the sixth sentai, add that to the fact that Kuon's look on the show is already pretty fashionable, so any attempts of mine with him would look reductive, so in the end he got axed.
And lastly, I want to thank the tokusatsu community for being so supportive! I used to watch toku shows when younger, and Gozyuger being a celebration of the franchise picked my interest, had no idea the fans would engage so much with the things I did — it may not seem much, but every note and interaction counts, I'm not by any means a professional and do this for fun, so thank you guys again for showing me some love 🤍
Five down for the count, just one more to go. They look pretty different in the full render, from these bases I think Hoeru and Sumino are the two that really change when fully colored.
I wonder if you guys will be able to tell where their looks came from... Mashiro will be the outlier in this concept. Again, I thought about adding Kuon, but again this one started when Mashiro wasn't around, and he is just so much more interesting (and cool).
I've only just noticed that I did Polar's in a bigger format 🤣
This was such a fun thing to do, I'm not used to draw things without face, more android-like, not having the eyes really made a difference for me when coming up with these.
I honestly don't have a personal favorite, but I know people online do: the numbers don't lie, Hoeru is an absolute smash across all my socials, I do think the red factor played a part, but still, there is a very big gap between him and the second place (Kinjiro, with Sumino close behind). Which comes to show that I don't play favorites, cause from the team Hoeru is my least liked character 😬
There is a lack of consistency on the coloring but it is what it is, since I was trying many different things and looking at various tutorials to get the materials right. I would probably gone with Mashiro's style for all of them had it been now, finally getting the hang of the whole leather-y/latex look while still maintaining the subtle halftones seen in Hoeru's.
Rikuo's is definitely the weakest, also the only one that I traced: I used part of a promotional picture to get the pose, and instead of adapting the proportions I left them as it was thinking my coloring would do the trick. It didn't, you can see how his body differs from the rest of them.
All in all, I'm super pleased with them, and maybe if I'm still pumped for the show I might got back to them, but if so I'll come up with tweaked versions of their suits, spice things up.
I almost drew Garyudo/Kuon, but then Mashiro showed up and he is the coolest — no pun intended.

I'm about to start rendering Hoeru, the last one of this bunch. Was going to post them soon, but now with Mashiro joining the show I think I'll wait and see him in action and decide if he gets the same treatment.
I'm super pleased with how all of them turned out (Kinjiro was the most fun to make).
No idea of what to draw once I'm done with them...
Had a really tough time with this one. This is actually the second attempt, because the first one looked so weird to me. Since I started to use the 3D models for poses things got easier for me on this department, instead of worrying (too much) about anatomy now my focus is more towards the actual posing. It was also the first time I did one bit-by-bit, rendering a piece at a time until I completed the whole body, it's looks cute on the timelapse and it also allows me keep more focus on the task at hand, when I have all the base colors available the process becomes way more chaotic.
I was actually really deep into the first try when I decided to stop and re-imagine the whole thing. Ended up using the first pose as a base, exaggerating some of the movement and changing just a little bit of the angle for a more dynamic pose.
One the most challenging parts really is trying to ignore what you see on screen and keep in mind what your imagination is coming up with, the plain line art and base colors are just a hint of what is to come.
The wings came later and all the blurring was done on photoshop.
