Stay healthy! Eat healthy!
me: wants to loose weight
also me: binges everyday
my ed:
Inner me: I recognize that losing the weight won't make me any prettier, I'll literally just weigh less.
My ED: Yeah, but would you rather be skinny and ugly or fat and ugly?
Inner me:
Having an eating disorder at a higher BMI
It’s really discouraging to be struggling with an eating disorder when you’re heavier. You see these girls who only have to lose 5-25 pounds to get to their goal weight while you have 100. You start to feel like your eating disorder isn’t valid anymore because you don’t fit into the “skinny girl” criteria. I know that having an eating disorder doesn’t mean you have to have a certain body type and there’s no real “qualifications” but it’s still pretty hard to feel like what you’re going through matters.
I’ve struggled with food and eating disorders all my life being very thin and very fat. I’ve seen both sides. When you’re a bigger girl and you lose weight you are congratulated for your accomplishments. When you’re a smaller girl who loses weight you are asked questions whether you’re doing alright and you’re monitored more.
As a bigger girl you start to feel slightly hopeless that your weight loss, although a lot, has made any difference. For example a girl who is 120 pounds loses 30 pounds and is now 90 pounds looks completely different. But a girl who is 250 pounds and loses 30 pounds and is now 220 pounds looks pretty much the same.
It starts to feel impossible to reach your goals or stay focused on what you want. I sympathize with all the other people struggling out there with eating disorders even when they don’t fit the average stereotype.
My messages and ask are always open if anyone ever needs to talk ♡
adult life is truly just thinking “I NEED TO CLEAN” while dealing with the 17 other things that have a hard deadline
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
i don't need to eat, i just want to.
need and want is the difference between strong and weak.
~weird~ weight loss tips!
not sure how many of these work, but i thought they were interesting!
take vitamins! you might be eating more because your body is craving nutrients. vitamins would help curb that subconscious reason for eating!
sit at the end of the table at restaurants. bread baskets / chips / etc. are normally put in the center! if you’re further away, you’ll eat less.
sleep in a super dark room! in studies, mice who slept in darker environments / had less unusually timed light exposure weighed less
watch less tv / spend less time online. you’ll find other things to occupy your time, which will likely involve movement in some way!
eat off of smaller plates! your brain thinks you’re eating more because so much of the plate is taken up
eat spicy foods! you’ll eat less, and it’s a metabolism booster
eat bread last! you’ll consume less carbs, because you’ll already have such a full tummy by the time you get there
sleep in a cold room! your body will have to eat up more calories while it tries to keep itself warm
only eat candy that you have to unwrap individually! so no skittles or m&ms. studies show you eat 40% less if you have to stop for unwrapping between each piece.
burn a vanilla-scented candle or wear vanilla-scented lotion during meals! the scent helps to curb the appetite- in one study, people who wore the scent lost an average of 4 and a half pounds!
surround yourself with the color blue! in studies, people eat 33% less while in a blue room than one with warmer colors
if you’re eating out, pay with cash! paying with physical money makes you more conscious of how much you’re paying, and therefore, how much you’re eating
eat with someone! (unless they’re a chronic over-eater.) when you’re alone, one study reports that you tend to eat up to three times more!
take pictures of EVERYTHING you eat. you’ll have to stop to think about what you’re eating, and seeing just how much you’re consuming over time will encourage you to skip the extra candy bar. bonus: POST pictures of everything you eat. knowing other people see what you consume will provide psychological motivation for eating healthier / eating less.
sniff food every chance you get! it tricks your brain into thinking you’ve eaten already- this has encouraged up to 33 pounds of weight loss in studies
Just a brief list of the realities of life with an eating disorder. • hungry all the time, even if you just ate a snack • eating something even as small as an egg can make you bloated • lying to everyone, even the people you love • not being able to do well in school or at work because all you can think of is food • not being able to climb a set of stairs without feeling like you’re going to pass out • compulsive exercise, sometimes to the point of complete and utter exhaustion • fear of foods you used to love • avoiding social situations that will involve food • avoiding social situations because you don’t want people to see your body • wanting to cry every time you look in the mirror • weighing yourself every morning, even though you know if you don’t like the number, your day will be ruined before it has even started • hating the people close to you who try to make you stop • hating yourself for hating those people • being cold all the time • almost passing out every time you stand up • constant fear that someone is going to find out and make you stop • feeling so alone because you can’t tell anyone what you’re going through • thinning hair • knowing that you’re literally killing your body, but doing it anyways • counting calories the the point of obsession • constantly comparing yourself to everyone around you • ruined relationships • LOVING YOUR EATING DISORDER EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW ITS DESTROYING YOU
