no but bella really summarizes the entire appeal of edward cullen right here, folks

because he KNOWS he's a monster and a murderer and that he can be a jerk sometimes and that he has scary anger issues and that he makes a lot of stupid mistakes, but he's always trying to be better. he's always arrogant but never so much that he can't admit when he's wrong, he's always stubborn but never so much that he can't apologize. and sometimes when he tries to fix things it just makes them worse, but he still doesn't give up, because he's doing the best he can, dammit. he just needs someone to see the good in him, see the work he's done, and say "I'm proud of you and I love you anyway." and isn't that something that we all crave?

actual best moment in the entire saga is in like I think eclipse idk when she asks him if he doesn't want to turn her bc he won't like her when she's not special and he says he's afraid to turn her because he thinks she won't like him when they're equals. idrc about them but that scene actually makes me cry every single fucking time. wth smeyer

I think that it was necessary for Bella to be human when her and Edward meet. Not because Edward wouldn’t have loved her just as much if she was a vampire when they met, but because Edward would never be convinced he had a soul unless he saw how much of hers that Bella kept when she was changed. Seeing that vampire Bella was still the same Bella that he loved was what he needed in order to stop thinking he became a monster when he was changed.

It’s wild to me that in Breaking Dawn, when Bella is thought to be dead, Jacob thinks that the best thing he can do is disrespect her wishes one last time. She wanted the child so bad that she was willing to die in order to give birth to it, and Jacob’s first thought is to murder the child she loved so much to die for. To make it so that actually, she died for nothing.

I don’t think Jacob would’ve succeeded even if Jacob didn’t imprint (Rosalie totally would’ve killed him), but imagine he did succeed. Imagine if Bella woke up to find out that Jacob had killed the child she went through hell to bring into the world. And then has to live with that grief for the rest of eternity.

Honestly, Edward Cullen could have crashed out much worse than he did when he realized he was falling in love. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that.

I think if after a century of not feeling any romantic attraction to anyone, I would have the mother of all existential crises if I suddenly fell face-first into a pit of Being In Love like he did. I’d be writing so many strongly worded letters to the powers that be. How dare you change this fundamental part of me so late in the game?

For how inflexible vampires are as a whole, and how Edward is shown to be particularly self-assured, I’m impressed by how smoothly he rolled with this huge change. If you ignore the fact that the person he fell in love with was specifically designed to stress him out, Edward’s reaction to the idea itself of falling in love was basically “oh, okay, this is who I am now. I am love’s bitch. I will adjust my fretting accordingly”

No one talks about that scene in Midnight Sun when Edward just freaking…decides to be Angela’s wingman and is like “hey uhhh I was gonna ask out Angela but APPARENTLY she’s not into me she’s interested in this other guy BEN, whomstever that is”. And Emmett stage-whispers “Dude, he’s SITTING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.”

I’ve seen some people say that Bella was a bad friend to Jacob and that she used him, and I would like to point out that Jacob wasn’t a good friend to Bella either. Throughout the friendship, he thought that if he was friends with Bella for long enough, she would eventually want to date him. He wasn’t friends with her because he wanted her friendship for its own sake—he was friends with her because he thought he could get something out of it. He was also hot and cold with her all the time, sexually assaulted her, manipulated her into kissing him, and tried to murder her child.
