Really just gonna call me out like that Jak?
"Well, good. I'm glad it's not broken," Svern sighed. "That really just would have been the absolute worst birthday present ever."
Not that a torn muscle was desirable either, but it was the lesser of the evils in this case. He supposed that he would just have to pay special attention to being considerate and helpful in the meantime.
He regarded Blanc carefully for a few seconds, again, this time focusing primarily on the emotional upset rather than the physical one. As far as Svern was concerned, there was really no need for Blanc to be sorry about any of this, and especially not about 'not doing better'. But he supposed that when it came to that, Blanc was just being, well... Blanc.
"And no need to apologise; it's not really your fault. That man had no sense of decorum or restraint. Honestly, you should've seen the great show and dance he made about the whole thing." He punctuated it with a derisive snort, as if to emphasise his sudden contempt for the wrestler.
Then, he offered Blanc a smile, as well as his hand: to hold on their way to the quiet lounge, if Blanc wanted to do so.
"Don't worry about whether it's exciting or not. I thought I might ask if I can take some of that origami paper to the lounge to fold while you rest. If you want, we could both fold some - it's possible to do it one-handed."
And then he winked. "If you do, I'll try it one-handed, too."
"In all fairness... I am the one who went to challenge him myself. Though putting on a show while I made my walk to get my arm looked at is... certainly a choice." He sighed with vague annoyance, he didn't need to be there to get a good idea of what it was probably like based on Svern's description.
But it fades fast as Svern offers his hand to him, and he blinks with surprise. Especially so as he listens to Svern speaking, no trace of anything resembling the fact that this is... supposedly a fake date situation again. It's not that he expected Svern to be outright rude to him about it, just... he recalls trying to keep up with him often in the past. It's a change of pace to see him slow down, especially just to make sure if Blanc was okay.
He does decide to take the hand offered to him, with a grateful smile. "I don't think I've done origami since I was a kid, but I can try. Think you'll enjoy the challenge of trying to do it one-handed?"
He's playing along in a silly way, but he's also concentrating very much on just Svern rather than paying attention to their surroundings. He didn't realize just how overwhelming everything had really been, until the idea of going to a quieter spot was offered. At least a certain person holding his hand, was also giving him plenty to focus on.
What's this? Outside of Blanc's cabin, there's a large package addressed to him and signed simply, "Happy Delibird Day, from your Secret Santa" with a little doodle of a Delibird. Inside the box, Blanc will find a new forest-green jacket with soft tan fleece lining and a plaid insulated mug that looks perfect for holding hot chocolate.
At the bottom of the package, there is a funky FINAL GIRL sticker that he can probably stick somewhere.
He had opened the door to check for how cold it was outside, only to be surprised by the package casually sitting out front! Though he does end up calling for his Audino's help with carrying it inside, it might not be heavy but it was large enough to be a bit of trouble to lift with one arm in a sling.
But at least once Meadow had set the box down on the coffee table, he could handle opening it from there. Idly wondering exactly who his Secret Santa was, looking at the gifts so far it didn't feel nearly as obvious as last year. Very useful gifts though, he would never complain about a new jacket and insulated mug!
Though when he goes to pick up what he thinks is a tag and finds it to be a FINAL GIRL sticker, he can't help a pleased laugh in response.
"I don't know where someone got this impression with me, but I guess I can't say they're wrong. Maybe I can find a notebook to put this on or something..." He muses. "Very thoughtful gifts from this Secret Delibird."
There's a present for Red! Inside he would find a Pikachu phone charm, a Charizard themed beanie, and a bag of pastries! There's also a separate bag of Lum berries for some reason. There's a note attached to the pastries; "These are safe for people AND Pokemon to eat. Happy Holidays!"
Oh? He's surprised to find a gift for him, even with the holiday season he hadn't really been expecting anything. But as he opens the gift he snickers over the choices in gifts, briefly deciding to switch out his hat with the Charizard themed beanie. Spark looks at him with a tilt of her head in response.
"What, do I seem so strange with this?" He laughs, "I guess it's not my usual choice of hat huh? But I do like it, Cinder's going to love it too and you know it."
But Spark's gone from his shoulder to go for one of the berries while he was talking, and Red rolls his eyes. He hopes that the sender had a happy holiday themself, too.
Honestly it's not a big deal, but he can't help pausing while thinking it is kind of nice that Blue...maybe remembered him? Or maybe just recognized him. He does figure in a sea of people who come to her for advice, it's probably easy to lose track of a couple messages about a Feebas in Unova. So...maybe all he's really recognized for is his former champion status.
Even so, he still did appreciate her help!

Oh, good, there he is.
Within a minute or two of Blanc having returned to the hall, Svern had located him, slipping easily through the other guests to stand beside him. He eyed the arm in the sling rather expressionlessly, then looked at Blanc's face to gauge how he was doing. Could be worse, but sure not great.
It wouldn't be accurate to say that Svern felt truly bad about this, but he wasn't pleased about it either, not at all. Just the fact that Blanc had gotten hurt in something like arm-wrestling was one thing — "You try," Svern had said, "you're stronger than I am!" — but the timing of it made it worse. On Blanc's birthday, and during something that Svern had put him up to. It was hard to tell how much of the annoyance pricking at Svern's mind was about the injury itself and how much of it was his own idea having backfired.
Oh well, he'll just have to salvage it.
His expression softened; and since it had been his suggestion, and one that had gone awry with the worst timing, he started with an apology.
"Sorry, Blanc. It was your nerves, wasn't it? Are you alright? ...Would you rather go to the lounge and get some rest?"
He hadn't expected to be rushed over to so fast, but before he could even locate him in the crowd Svern had ran over and was already glancing over Blanc. He wants to apologize for not doing better at the whole thing, for the potential annoyances this setback could cause--
But before he gets a word out, Svern's apologized before him. He blinks with surprise, though it's nice to still be proven right that Svern does in fact apologize still; a fact he would continue to stand by.
"I..." He speaks, though it takes him a second for his mind to catch up with what he wants to say. "It's okay, I'm the one who decided to do it, and I'm sorry that I didn't do better at it really. I appreciated the confidence you had in me...but yeah, I guess my nerves got the better of me."
That softened expression from Svern wasn't lost on Blanc though, he feels almost guilty about the fact that it feels nice to see this kind of care from his... 'date'. Complicated roommate. Whatever he could be called to Blanc.
"I'm okay, my arm isn't broken at least; though I've got a bit of a torn muscle now." He's admittedly not looking forward to having to be careful with it for the coming weeks, but he avoids saying anything about that for now.
With his nerves being the way they are he's not sure how to begin trying to calm down fully again, so who knows how much this will help? But honestly, he also didn't have any better ideas.
"Maybe for a few minutes anyway, if you're sure. I know it's... not very exciting."
Ow.
He's never been so thankful that he has good pain tolerance before. The situation doesn't bring tears to his eyes from the pain, but he feels like it probably would've done so to a lot of people.
His arm doesn't feel like it quite snapped the way that people describe a bone doing, but something with his arm is definitely hurt quite badly. He doesn't dare move it, as he allows himself to be lead to another part of the building.
He's quiet while the staff seem to be trying to talk to him idly about the fact the Super Contest Hall gets accidents from time to time, so they have some medical supplies here for situations like this. He just nods along, mostly processing the fact he feels embarrassed by all this. Worse so with the fact that Svern had believed in him here and he failed bad enough to need medical attention.
Ugh.
He's not really sure how the rest of the event is going to go for him at this rate. We'll see I guess.
Through the chatter he learns that the muscle in his arm got torn some, and he wanders back out into the hall later. He's feeling a bit less like the room is spinning with pain medication in his system, but he does have his arm sitting in a dark blue sling now.
Yet again, happy birthday to me I guess.
Blanc is really not feeling good going into this. He appreciated the vote of confidence Svern had tried to give him while pushing him over to arm wrestling Crasher Wake... but also it's Crasher Wake. He doesn't think it matters how much strength he has, he's not walking out of this with a win.

Though admittedly, he hadn't expected such a painful loss.
The nefarious redhead from before appears to have coaxed his friend (donning matching outfits??? interesting...) into taking a turn. Wake can practically smell the apprehension on this kid, but stepping up still requires bravery and he can respect it.
"Let's go, kid. If you beat me, drinks are on me!"
The crowd cheers wildly as the two of them fall into position. Oh, the kid's palms are a bit sweaty. Is he that nervous? Well, considering Wake is on an 11-0 winning streak, it's understandable.
'Three, two, one... go!''
It's over in an instant. Perhaps Wake forgot to recalibrate his strength after arm-wrestling Shay... but Blanc's arm flies into the table at almost neck-breaking speed and, for a moment, Wake fears that he might have broken something.
"Oh, geeze. You okay, kid?" That looks like it HURT.
Social events have never been a major strong suit of his. The Village Bridge Holiday Festival was probably the closest thing that Blanc participated in consistently, always there to lend his and Glacier's help for the Sawsbuck Carriages. But anything else? Normally, he could be a bit of a wallflower and was okay with that.
Though he felt less so with his suit of choice this time, especially with how Svern had gone out of his way to make sure their outfits would match this time. He's...of two conflicting feelings about this, unable to not feel like Svern looks completely amazing. While also feeling like there may be a punchline this is building up to, this...'fake date' scenario was going further than it did at the previous gala they went to after all.
Did this bother him? ...Complicated. It probably wouldn't have bothered him so much if things felt a bit more consistent between them.
But... as he stares at the decorations and the various people chatting, he tries to calm his nerves. He thinks he's going to try his best to make the event fun for them both, just... hopefully not in a way that pushes Svern further away from him, again.
Happy birthday to me, I suppose.
