Thinking about minecraft colors
Java Edition Classic Minecraft had such vibrant, bright, bold colors. Colors we haven’t really seen in the game since like bright pure green, spring/mint green, lavender-blue, two types of purple, pure magenta, and rose magenta. It really speaks to the optimistic idealism and simplicity I think this version of Minecraft embodied.
Java Edition Beta shifted and squished these colors into an overall darker palette with the addition of brown and a much darker green and cyan (teal) wool. The cooler colors were shifted to “standardized” ones. Blue in this version is a pure, very dark ultramarine blue. We have Pink ™ instead, etc. This is the palette of colored wool that most veteran players have played with for the majority of their time with Minecraft.
In Early Release Java Edition (1.2.4) the saturation of wool was toned down noticeably, making the spectrum of wool blocks slightly darker than before. Most notably yellow, orange, and pink look a lot duller when you compare them directly and it changed the mood of the game drastically downwards IMO. This was basically a downgrade in my opinion, and didn’t last too long in the scheme of things.
Then everything changed when the Fire Nat- World of Color update happened and cheered the hell up out of the Minecraft wool color palette as a whole, while adding concrete and glazed terracotta. Pink actually looks fresher and more vibrant than ever before, orange looks fruity, yellow looks lemony, etc. There were some big changes to the overall hues themselves though, like lime wool actually being more yellowish and lime-like instead of pure green, and “light blue” is now a completely different color, being cyan in color instead of literally a lighter blue, which is completely gone now. The darker tones of brown, dark-green “green”, and blue, and teal “cyan” have all been brightened, etc.
Overall I’d say the world of color update was a great thing that needed to happen, but it also shifted the perception of the game towards something more cartoonish, inclusive, and kid-friendly as a whole too, while abandoning certain aspects/conventions of the older aesthetic styles that lent themselves to more stoic and serious types of builds. Looking at it historically, you could see it as a return to the oldest aesthetic Minecraft embodied, but while it did make it brighter overall, they also ended up ditching a bunch of interesting pure, niche, and/or in-between colors that are actually brighter/more vibrant than the ones ingame, those which are ironically closer to promotional art for the game.
Remember the fallen. o7
my friend showed me these shotgun houses so this was v much inspired by their facades ! i built these next to the mountain house :-)
I think the warden in minecraft would be much better if he had a little baby version too that has less hearts but can run fuckoff fast
my wip town, florada on the @cottagecraftmc server <3 come join us!
✨hanging lanterns everywhere✨
took some updated screenshots of my base on @meezercraft with pretty shaders! maybe someday I’ll finish that little mushroom-themed village near my base….
yk, that reinforced deepslate frame in deep dark cities looks an awful lot like a portal
maybe that’s what the warden is guarding
there is little to no incentive for exploring the deep dark or ancient cities so far—the warden doesn’t drop anything, and the city loot in the snapshots is pretty basic, but exploring a new realm? fuck yes, of course i’d risk the warden’s wrath for that shit
the frame looks a lot like a portal, and while you can break the reinforced deepslate, you can’t pick it up yet. i don’t know if that’s intentional or not, but if it is intentional, what if it’s so that you can’t rebuild the portal elsewhere? and with the creator of the aether mod now working as a gameplay developer at mojang…
i don’t know. i just really hope they give us some kind of incentive to explore ancient cities other than Cool Architecture, and i think this could be it
gods. it’s just been this thought i’ve had ever since i learned the bedrock was being moved down.
the bedrock is there, functionally, to protect you. the void is the only death you can’t cheat in some way, and the bedrock protects you from getting too close to the nothing. it protects you from the other side.
but now, the bedrock has been moved down, and it’s about to reveal the warden, and the deep dark cities
and i can’t help but to think — if the warden has been revealed by the bedrock,
what did the bedrock decide was more dangerous than that?
Well, Fluffy. You can't exactly have a proper Warden if they do not guard a cell, can you?
The Void is a cell, the bedrock its bars.
Do not request to visit the prisoner.
Beed
I'm glad you all love the beed! I'm going to include it in texture pack I'm working on that gives every bed color a more unique texture! Currently most of them are done, but I still have a few tweaks to make :3
Good news! The pack is live! There's multiple versions for all 8 wood types, and one pack that's got a variety of wood types. Sadly I could not upload the customizable version of the pack I wanted that included all wood and color variants, as Curseforge pinged the duplicate files. But if you wanted to cobble together your own blend of wood types that's cool, as long as you don't post it anywhere.
Here's a couple of the other beds!

i looove the minecraft warden so much he lives in the ground and he has big ears and makes cool noises and his heart beats really loud and when he gets close to you you can't see anything except for the glow of the trapped souls in his exposed ribcage and also he has a beam attack
I tried redstone and fucked around until i had a functioning automatic sugarcane farm w automatic storage
why did you refer to redstone like it was cocaine
“I got real fucked up on redstone the other night and woke up with an automatic farm.”
