The Royals At A Glance- The Royals have been a huge disappointment and a (10-18) record in May didn't help. They had a stretch of ten losses in eleven games in mid-May and things haven't gotten much better. The Royals did take a series from the Reds in Cincinnati this week. The Royals got into Minneapolis late last night after playing a night game. Cole Ragans is out with an elbow injury and resumed playing catch on Monday. Maikel Garcia has been out with a hamstring injury. Carlos Estevez has been out since the first series of the year with a shoulder injury. He began playing catch recently and is slowly working his way back. Bobby Witt Jr. has been solid this year with a .283 average, nine homers, and twenty-six RBI. Vinnie Pasquantino has been a huge disappointment with a .214 average and just six homers. Salvador Perez is hitting just .207 on the year. The Royals starting staff has a 4.05 ERA, which is 13th in baseball. Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo have been bright spots in the rotation. The Kansas City bullpen has been awful with a 5.06 ERA, which is third-worst in MLB. Daniel Lynch has been good with a 1.85 ERA through 24 1/3 innings. Lucas Erceg has a 6.45 ERA and has been taken out of the closer role.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins returned home and took two of three from the White Sox. They were shutout in a bad loss on Wednesday and continue the homestand against the Royals this weekend. Mick Abel threw live batting practice on Thursday and might be close to a rehab assignment. Ryan Jeffers had his cast and stitches removed and has resumed throwing. Kendry Rojas has been throwing and could began a rehab assignment soon. Cole Sands threw an inning for the Saints as he works his way back from a forearm injury. Simeon Woods Richardson was dealt back to the Blue Jays for cash after getting designated for assignment last week. Luke Keaschall has been hot with a .364 average over his past six games. Josh Bell has a .346 average over the past week. Tristan Gray has drive in eleven runs over the past week. Justin Lawrence got into his first game with the Twins on Wednesday. He loaded up the bases before getting out of the jam. Yoendrys Gomez has a 0.71 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with the Twins.
What To Watch For- The Royals took two of three from the Twins in early-April at Kauffman Stadium. The Twins took two of three from the Royals at Target Field last May and in August. Seth Lugo is (1-3) with a 4.76 ERA in nine games against the Twins. Michael Wacha is (6-1) with a 3.30 ERA in ten starts against the Twins. Josh Bell has two career homers off Wacha before. Zebby Matthews is (1-1) with a 5.14 ERA in three starts against the Royals. Luinder Avila has thrown two shutout innings against the Twins before. Joe Ryan is (8-2) with a 2.58 ERA in twelve starts against the Royals. Noah Cameron is (2-0) with a 1.04 ERA in three starts against the Twins. Connor Prielipp has never faced the Royals before. Salvador Perez has twenty-three career homers at Target Field, which is the most outside of Kauffman Stadium.
