He’s spent *so long* away from home, terrified of tainting those he loves with the ugliness of what his life has become, and now here he is, dragged out in front of them with all his sins laid bare. He struggles to keep them from seeing his face, but it’s no use. It’s coming soon, he KNOWS it is, any second now the screaming is going to come, the anger, the disgust, the disappointment…

…But as he looks into the face of his caregiver again, he’s not met with anger. Maybe some disappointment, but not the kind he expected. This is the kind of disappointment born of love, and want for someone to have had better.

And suddenly, he’s a little kid again, being lectured by his mother.
